Abstract
Shell and tube heat exchan~~ers are widely used in the refinery and petrochemical
industries. Their heat transfer efficiencies were carefully checked. Chinese Petroleum
Corporation (CPC) used Aspen B-JAC and AEA Technology -Hyprotech HTFS TASC software
for designing and rating heat exchangers. Further study on heat integration to achieve goals of
lowering energy consumption and increasing operation capacity. In this report , functions of
designing and rating shell and tube heat exchangers by TASC are reviewed. A shell and tube
heat exchanger of the topping unit in Kaoshiung refinery is demonstrated as a simulation
example in detail. The hot and cold streams used are heavy diesel oil and crude oil, respectively.
10 meet the heat transfer requirement, the simulation results reveal that the AES type heat
exchanger with one shell pass and two tube passes arrangement. The results also provide
complete specification sheet and thermal setting plan.
