Bachchan wrote on his Twitter page late
Tuesday.

April 2007. The child will be their first
and comes after weeks of speculation in
Indian gossip columns about the
actress’ fluctuating weight.
Bachchan senior later said on the
micro-blogging site that he was “overwhelmed” with the response to the
news from followers and had received
2,843 tweets of congratulation in just
half an hour.

bigb.bigadda.com, he said: “There is joy
and happiness around us.”
There was no immediate indication
when the baby was due.
The Bachchans — Amitabh, his
actress wife Jaya, Aishwarya and
Abhishek — are Bollywood’s “first family” and have a fanatical following in
India and around the world. His daughter, Shweta Nanda, has two children.
The family patriarch said he was particularly pleased with the news because

The family boycotted the annual
Filmfare magazine awards in 2010
after a tabloid newspaper in Mumbai
wrote that Rai could not have children, prompting a legal notice to be
sent demanding a retraction and an
apology.
Rai, who took the Miss World crown
in 1994, made her debut in Hindi-language Bollywood in the late 1990s and
has gone on to star in more than 40
Indian films.
Most recently she was in the blockbuster South Indian film Endhiran
(Robot) alongside Tamil-language
superstar Rajinikanth, which broke box
office records in India.
She appeared as a jewel thief in
Steve Martin’s The Pink Panther 2.
Her other English-language films
include Bend It Like Beckham director
Gurinder Chadha’s Bride and
Prejudice in 2004 and The Last
Legion in 2007.
She was recently seen at the Cannes
film festival promoting her upcoming
film Heroine, which was due to begin
shooting this year.
The chief executive of UTV Motion
Pictures, Ronnie Screwvala, said at the
time that Rai had star power.
“She is the brand ambassador for
India and for Indian cinema when it
comes to the French Riviera.”
Rai also has a number of lucrative
modelling contracts, including for
French cosmetics firm L’Oreal.

Soak up some sun: If it’s warm enough, go outside on your deck or porch for the baby’s first morning feeding. If it’s not, sit by a window instead.
The rays will reset your body’s internal clock to daytime and minimise the urge to snooze. Wash away weariness. Use an invigorating shower gel
with a scent like peppermint, jasmine, or grapefruit.
Eat smart: Pace your protein for maximum energy: Eat a protein-and-carb-combo breakfast (say, a hard-boiled egg and whole wheat toast) to get
you going, snack on protein (cheese, yogurt, a fruit and yogurt smoothie) during the day for a boost, then eat a few extra carbs at dinner to wind
you down.
Get moving: Once you’re past the postpartum recovery stage (about six to eight weeks after your baby’s birth), try gentle workouts, like walking or
yoga. While aerobic exercise, which ups your heart rate, is best for fighting fatigue, any activity can help.
Take a power nap: A twenty-minute nap may not make up for the hours of sleep you’re missing at night, but clocking short bouts of shut-eye can
help you rest your eyes and recharge your brain. Better yet, enlist visitors to watch the baby while you take a more involved nap.
How to get your kids to
sleep in their own bed

good night’s sleep. Once
their daughters got to ages 3
and 5, the Dexter, Michigan, couple fully
expected they’d be enjoying eight hours
of shut-eye again. Ah, the eternal optimism of parenthood!
In reality, Colleen and Rob would put
their younger daughter, Jenna, to bed,
only to see her again three hours later,
throwing a queen-size fit and begging to
sleep in their queen-size bed. They were
way too tired to do anything but throw
back the covers and invite her in.
“Eventually, one of us would get fed up
with being kicked in the back by Jenna
and go sleep in the guest room. We were
tired all the time,” says Colleen.
Tons of parents who didn’t plan on
having a family bed are finding that’s
exactly what they now have — and want
to get rid of it, says Jill Spivack, a family
therapist and formerly sleep-deprived
mom herself who is the cocreator of The
Sleepeasy Solution. “When you’re
exhausted, you follow the path of least
resistance,” she says. “You may have tried
other things, but in desperation, you pull
your kid into your own bed. You may not
get perfect sleep, but at least you get some
sleep.”
The good news: You can untrain the little monster who’s taking over your bed.
The bad news: It may not be pretty. Your
life is not an episode of Supernanny and
your family’s sleep issues won’t get
resolved in an hour or even a day. If you
really want to make the change and
you’re prepared for tears, wails, and cries
of “But Mommy, don’t you love me?”
you’ll make it through.
Start talking about your new bedtime
expectations in the afternoon — that way,
your child will know what to expect at
night. She also suggests making a homemade sleeptime book — nothing fancy,
just stapled-together paper illustrated
with stick-figure pictures that your child
can colour. If your family recently moved,
for instance, and your daughter started

the new house, your story would focus on
that and end with how she finally started
sleeping happily in her very own bed. A
picture book can help young children
understand their new sleeping situation
in a very concrete way.
Do your usual bedtime routine, then
get ready for the after “lights-out” part.
This is where moms who couldn’t stand
the cry-it-out method when their kids
w e r e
babies may turn back
and say “forget it.” Hey, kids
will eventually sleep alone (show me a
teenager who wants to be in bed with
Mom and Dad and I’ll show you a reality
show waiting to happen). But if you’d
rather want yours to go solo this month
than this century, you can do it — you just
need to brace yourself.
In general, both sleep consultants and
parents who’ve been there say that once
you decide to start this sleep training, bed
sharing needs to end entirely. That
means midnight visitors get walked back
to their rooms, tucked in, kissed, and left
behind. No extra snuggles, no drinks of
water. You’ll have to carry them, wriggling and accusing all the way, to their
beds. Which they will jump out of in a
split second. You will start to wonder if
you will ever sleep again. You will; just
maybe not tonight. Keep this up until the
new rules sink in.
If your child has been starting out in
your bed and sleeping there all night,
every night, your job is even less fun.
Take a comforter into your child’s room
and sleep on the floor — not in her bed —
all night long. Even though a slumber
party in your child’s room is probably not
your idea of a good time, it’s a smart
move in the long run. “If you’re in her
room when she falls asleep and then
not there when she wakes a couple of
hours later, she will call out or come
looking for you,” says Jennifer
Waldburger, cocreator with Spivack
of The Sleepeasy Solution.
“Sleeping in her room all night
pushes the reset button, so to
speak, on whatever anxiety your
child is having about being
there alone. She can wake up
and see Mom or Dad each
time, then just go back to
sleep.”
After two or three
nights, switch to
sitting quietly
in a nearby
chair until
your child
falls asleep. You have
to bore your child to sleep. If she
kicks up a fuss, temporarily
leave the room. She’ll settle down
if she knows the reward is that
you’ll rejoin her.
Each night, move yourself farther
from your child’s bed — to the door, to
the hallway, and eventually back to
your own bedroom.
A secure door gate — or just the idea
of it — can also works for certain kids.
When she was 3 years old, Monica and
Ron Calderon’s daughter, Marquesa,
started waking up around 4 am and
sneaking into bed with her parents. After
a few nights couple reminded little
Marquesa of “the gate,” the one she knew
from when she was a “baby” (a few
months back). Marquesa hated being
corralled, so that gentle threat was more
than enough to coax her back to her own
bed.
Keep encouraging and reminding your
kid of the new rules. If she made it
through the night — or even made some
improvements — bring on the praise.
Prizes are generally welcomed by little
kids. You could let your child pick a small
“sleep treat” from a “grab bag” in the
morning or leave one under his pillow. I
admit it: I lured my younger daughter,
Flora, back to her bed with prizes.
Borrowing an idea from Janie Peterson,
author of The Sleep Fairy, I told Flora
that the Sleep Fairy (sort of like the
Tooth Fairy) leaves stickers, small toys,
and other goodies under sleeping children’s pillows. It worked like a dream.
Within a week, she was in the habit of
staying in bed, and the prizes weren’t
even a big issue.
It may take more than one tactic to
entice your child
into her bed.
But whatever
you do, be
consistent
and
have
faith!

The June 1 partial solar eclipse shines
over Tromso in northern Norway. Visible
from far-northern parts of the Europe and
Asia – including areas where the sun doesn’t set during this time of year – the eclipse
at times turned the sun into a glowing
“smile” hugging the horizon.
“We had a lot of clouds at the sky earlier
in the evening, but fortunately there was a
perfect sight on the sun at the time of the

After a year in isolation, six men participating in the Mars500 experiment grin in

Megan Fox to be fired from Transformers: Dark of the Moon
after she insulted director Michael Bay. Spielberg, the film’s
producer, was outraged when the actress gave an interview
saying Bay was like Adolf Hitler on his movie sets, reports
contactmusic.com. Bay said: “You know the Hitler thing.
Steven said, ‘Fire her right now.’” The 25-year-old actress was
replaced in the film by British model-turned-actress Rosie
Huntington-Whitley.
ACTRESS Gwyneth Paltrow got delayed for an
assignment when her car was pulled over by police
in New York. Paltrow was in the city to make an
appearance on Glee Live! Friday and drove herself
to the venue. But she was delayed after police
pulled her vehicle over to the side of the road,
reports contactmusic.com. “Oops. Busted by New

INDSAY Lohan isn’t letting her house arrest prevent her from working - she shot a commercial at
her apartment earlier this month. The Mean Girls
actress was sentenced to jail for violating her probation stemming from a 2007 DUI charge by allegedly stealing
a necklace from a California jewellery store earlier this year.
Lohan has been serving her time under home detention due
to prison overcrowding and even invited friends to a rooftop
party last week to keep her company in the confines of her
property.
And the star has also been keeping busy and earning cash
by filming an advert for auction website Beezid.com at her
home. A representative for the company claims Lohan was
originally offered $25,000 (£15,625) for her role in the commercial, but she turned the offer down before reaching an
agreement for an undisclosed sum, reports TMZ.com.
It’s not the first time Lohan has appeared onscreen since
her house arrest - she also recorded a 90-second short film
which was shown at the opening of art event Venice
Biennale in Italy earlier this month. In the clip she is seen
swimming underwater in a skimpy white bikini and pouting
at the camera.

DEEPIKA Padukone has taken time off from her work
schedule in London, to make a short trip to Bali with some
friends. However, it wasn’t for a personal holiday. The actor
took time off to attend the wedding of boyfriend Sidhartha
Mallya’s step-sister. While details are not known, a source
reveals that the couple is using this as an opportunity to
spend time with each other. “She’s very close to Sidhartha’s
family and it was important for her to be with them for the
occasion. Also she’s been shooting round the clock for
Cocktail in London hence this served as a good break.”
VIDYA Balan’s loss might just turn out to be Rani
Mukerji’s gain. Apparently, Vidya is no longer part of the

seems that part two is called Dedh Ishqiya and, with
