WHEREAS, the presence of lesbian, gay, queer,
bi-sexual, transgender, transsexual, and 2-spirited
people strengthens our community; and,
WHEREAS, we recognize the economic
and social contributions made by these
citizens in our community; and,
WHEREAS, gathering together to celebrate
diversity raises public awareness and
increases acceptance; and,
WHEREAS, we, with our community partners,
continue to strive together to better
educate our community and help make it
a truly great place to live; and,
WHEREAS, we encourage the people of
Peterborough to embrace diversity and
strive for equality for all people;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I,
D. Paul Ayotte, Mayor of the City of Peterborough,
do hereby proclaim September 26, 2009 as
Lesbian, Gay, Queer, Bi-sexual, Transgender,
Transsexual, 2-Spirited Pride Day in Peterborough;
and, I ask fellow citizens to observe this day
by opening their minds and hearts to diversity
and to embracing the differences
of all people in this community.

Peterborough is a campus-based,
community-oriented, non-profit
organization committed to research,
education and action on social
justice and environmental issues.
Each year, OPIRG staff and volunteers
organize speakers, films, conferences,
publications and campaigns on a
wide variety of topics that fit within
our mandate. We also offer skills
development workshops and
research-for-credit opportunities.
