In your hand you hold the newest edition of the magazine
BB Centrum Review containing a variety of exciting and relevant news items! In this issue we would like to introduce
you to the idea that BB Centrum is a place “Where business
comes to life!”
Perhaps you have never thought about this, but BB Centrum offers you far more than just a desk and chair. Life is
different here, and it would be a pity not to take advantage of
all it has to offer. In these pages, you will find advice on convenient shopping locations, delicious and healthy eating,
where to have coffee with a colleague or business partner,
and even where to go for relaxation and leisure.
I personally recommend the new interview section where
we ask you, the public, about your work. In this issue we
interviewed former professional volleyball player Štěpán
Smrčka.
So I wish you pleasant and, most of all, useful reading!

Perhaps you don’t
notice it any more, but
around you at BB Centrum
throbs a city within a city.
You are in a place
of business: “Where
business comes to life”.
BB Centrum is a living
organism. And you form one
of its cells. We talked to the
chief editor of this magazine,
Mgr. Vendula Malochová,
about what this organism
feeds on, the life of
BB Centrum and the
BB Watch.

Where business comes to life
Q> “Where business comes to life”... What does
that mean?
Try and think how much time you spend at
work. This is a considerable part of your week
day. Therefore we want staff to feel good at BB
Centrum. We want people not just to work but to
live here, too. This can be a centre where business and life can be combined.
Q> Doesn’t this sound a bit like a cliché?
Not at all. The global trend is one of finding a balance between working and private life. We are
a modern centre. We are interested in people who
work here. Therefore, we are trying to make sure
there are sufficient services and places of leisure
here for people to use – such as the exclusive
Balance Club Brumlovka. People can also play
badminton, floor ball and plenty of other sports in
the sports hall at the Elijáš Primary School. So we
are trying to break the established work routine,
revive it, give it a spark.
Q> This sounds nice. It looks like BB Centrum
really is a city within a city …
Yes, all you need to do on your way to the office is
to stop for a moment and look around you. We are
trying to meet the needs of the local temporary
residents. Of course, there are also good-quality
restaurants and cafes here – there is excellent
food at the Maranatha vegetarian restaurant and
at the Grosseto. Try the coffee at the Gaviota and
you will definitely return. Connoisseurs can do
their shopping at the Maranatha health food store
or can be enticed by the original Italian delicatessen Bianco & Rosso. There are also the ordinary
services of daily life – dry cleaners, pharmacy,
post office and supermarket.
Q> What does the magazine have in common
with this?
It will tell you what is new at BB Centrum, what
is worth your attention, and what interesting
events you should not miss. We will inform you!
We will watch out and let you know what is happening. The BB Centrum Review is mainly about
you and for you – we will also introduce you to
colleagues from other firms who sit in a different
building or perhaps on the floor just above you. In
this issue you will find an interview with former
professional volleyball player Štěpán Smrčka.
You must certainly know lots of other interesting
people you meet here – we would be happy if you
write us with tips on who to interview for future
issues. You will also receive a reward for your
recommendation.
Q> A: One more personal question… What do you
like the most at the BB Centrum?
I really like visiting two places here... One is
a vegetarian restaurant Maranatha where I can
enjoy really original and tasty meals and draw
inspiration for my own cooking. The other oasis
is the Balance Club Brumlovka. It is a place where
you can both exercise and relax – a great treat for
the body and mind alike.
On guard with
the BB Watch
The rather mysterious logo entitled
“BB hlídka” (BB Watch) peeks out from
several pages of the magazine. What does
it mean? Does this have something to do
with what you have just said?
Well spotted. It certainly does. BB Watch
is a sort of advisor. It is the cherry on the
BB Centrum cake made up of a team that
moves around BB Centrum looking out for
what could be the most interesting news
for you, watching out for what is happening
at BB Centrum – informing, warning,
recommending. What it recommends it has,
of course, tried out first. You will find the BB
Watch logo on several pages of the magazine
and it always marks something that is really
worth it and you should not miss. With
the BB Watch and this magazine, we wish
you the most pleasant business and life at
BB Centrum.

Spring Fever is, in its mildest form,
a physical reaction of the organism to
the transition between the winter and
spring seasons. During that time, the
surrounding environment increases
the demands on one’s immune system
and metabolism. Rapid and frequent
weather changes with big temperature
and air pressure swings exhaust the
body‘s already weakened defenses.
Spring fever is thus a reaction to the
transition between the winter and
spring seasons, the reaction of our
body to the weakened immune system
and to the slower metabolism from the
winter season. If we wish to minimize
the impact of this phenomenon and
pass this period without the usual cold
and influenza, we should follow the
general principles of healthy living.
City life, in particular, is symptomatic
of severe ignorance of the natural
biological rhythms in both nature and
our body alike. Evening and night life,
very limited physical activity, constant stress and being overworked,
superficial types of business relationships, excessive consumption of
depreciated (refined) food, etc., are
all factors that greatly exhaust the
subtle neurophysiological structure
of our organism – our physical and
psychological strength and reserves.
From this point of view, we can actually be thankful for spring fever as it
is a very subtle reminder that should
make us pause and think about our
systemic overloading and abuse of
our resources, abilities and strength.
If we want to eliminate spring fever,
we must realise that we usually only
treat the symptoms, not the real cause
which is a lot more serious than the
actual fatigue and weakness of our
body. Our goal should be to identify
and eliminate these true causes, which
6
were mentioned earlier. In the nutrition department, we
should prioritise germinated cereals and legumes, raw
vegetables and the so-called ‚green foods‘ and increase the
intake of quality liquids such as spring water, highly diluted
fresh fruit and vegetable juices and very light herbal teas.
In the physical activity department, we should include
hiking and regular workouts, e.g. with springs, latex belts
and Bosu balls (convex balance pads). This way of working
out strengthens the joint capsules, ligaments and tendons
weakened by winter and helps build up the needed muscle
strength and volume, while requiring very little space, time
or money. In the relaxation department, we should assure
enough quality sleep before midnight.
I wish you success in applying these
general principles to your everyday
life.

Spring is coming at BB Centrum
Tips to refresh
tired eyes
With the onset of spring, a full beauty treatment aimed at hydrating
and energizing the skin is highly
recommended. We can offer such
a treatment using the La PrairiePower brand of beauty products.
After the winter months, this treatment will revitalise a tired and
dried our complexion.
I would also recommend for ladies
to seek advice from a beautician
about the consistency of their daily
cream this season. In the spring
and summer, daily creams with
a lighter consistency should be
used. You may also need help with
choosing the right shade of makeup, depending on how the colour of
your complexion changes with the
start of spring.
I would recommend to people
with more sensitive skin and a tendency for pigment spots to begin
using SPF products and newly marketed bleach products which are excellent for preventing the formation
of pigment spots. Our salons use the
new La Prairie White Caviar Illuminating System. If you already have
pigment spots, the perfect product
for your handbag is the White Caviar Spot Treatment.

The computer monitor alone does not
harm the eyes. Fixing our stare in one
place for a long time and forgetting to
blink is what causes eye strain and dryness. However, even your eye muscles
can be exercised. One way of doing this
is by alternating your focus from near to
far away.
Try placing your finger about 20 cm
in front of your eyes, glancing at it for
a moment and then beyond it for a moment, preferably out a window. Blinking
while doing this will distribute the
tear film and remove impurities from
the eye.
To relax the eyes, you can warm your
palms by rubbing them together, cup
your hands and place them on your
eyes so the palms hide the light but
don‘t touch your eyes. Just feel the dark
and warmth of your palms. For more
comfort, you can lean your elbows on
your desk. Do this for just one or two
minutes and your eyes will feel fresh
and relaxed.
Studio Bomton Spa & Wellness has introduced
a brand new treatment:
Oxy Life Nova Vx machine with Collagen Calling®,
a rejuvenating oxygen Mesotherapy.
Mesotherapy is a rejuvenation treatment – a gentle and painless facial or
body oxygen infusion that helps rejuvenate, refresh and brighten up the skin
and eradicate wrinkles, renewing natural hydration and detoxification processes as a welcome side effect. Mesotherapy is fit for décolletage and body
treatment alike. This skin renewal‘s cleansing and thinning effect is achieved
by accelerating the metabolic process in the organism. It gradually removes
stretch marks, helps the skin regain its original elasticity, eliminates skin discoloration, tightens the skin and eradicates (breaks up) the accumulated fat.
This procedure is also offered as part of a sspecial package deal of 5 treatments for CZK 6,400 (face treatment) or CZK 6,700 (body treatment).
Novus Optik Recommends:

drops for dry eyes
• Minimally tinted Amberelax eyeglass lenses for eyes strained by computer work that filter out the blue light,

Be trendy like Bardot
FiveFinger Running Shoes
These shoes may look like socks, but they are nothing like
socks. They are real shoes, so comfortable that you could
even run a marathon wearing them. This new trend in sport
footwear introduces an entirely new dimension to jogging
and walking. To some, “FiveFingers” may appear to be
a mere fashion extravagance, but in reality they are highly
functional. Those who tried them on fell in love with them
after a few steps. Vibram FiveFingers footwear has a revolutionary design that allows the body to work in a more
natural way, promoting freer movement. FiveFingers help
strengthen the foot and calf muscle and increase foot mobility and sensitivity, improving body balance and agility.
Running becomes safer and healthier, as the shoes encourage front foot contact with the ground, making running less
strenuous on knees, hips and lower back. Besides running,
FiveFingers may be worn for regular walks or exercise.
8
This spring, 1960s fashion is making
a comeback. Actress Brigitte Bardot is
a prime example of this revived look,
with her sheath dresses, A-line skirts
and headbands. As an accessory, small
handbags are a hit, and rounded toe
shoes are giving way to pointed ones.
Checkers and stripes are in, so you
mustn‘t be afraid of vibrant colors. For
example, an A-line skirt with a tightfitting blouse and a headband have
refined sex-appeal this season.
To the city and on outings
on an electric bike
Riding on an electric bike to provide
relief from peddling is nothing to
be ashamed of. On the contrary! An
electric bike does not deserve to be
described as a toy for lazy people because it is becoming quite an effective
mode of transport and a great hit. It is
convenient, for example, for women
who would like to go to town on a bike
without having to sweat while peddling, and will also find it easier to
carry heavier shopping. It is also convenient for long outings, especially if
you are riding about carrying a child
in a buggy on the back. You can buy
the cheapest models from CZK 10,000.
Spring is coming at BB Centrum
Make the most of spring and adorn
your home with seasonal decorations
Winter is coming to an end at last and a much lighter and happier season is beginning. The atmosphere
of spring can be conjured with a small bunch of hyacinths whose scent brings energy and improves the
mood. You can buy bulbous plants growing in a flowerpot or basket. Every day, you can watch and enjoy
its transformation.
When buying Easter decorations, avoid an excess of bright-colored plastic ornaments.
Our tip: decorate with as many natural materials as you like, in one or two shades of color.

Sony Xperia Z
HP Envy X2
Sony Xperia Z has suddenly, after its performance, taken
a leading position in an imaginary ranking of the best
equipped current smart phones. This year’s trends were
set at January’s CES, and it clearly speaks for itself – 5 inch
display and high performance, with the Xperia Z setting the
example in these parameters because it offers FullHD resolution and a 4 core processor, not to mention a 2 GB operating
memory. Although this is not the smallest device in terms of
the size of the display, the manufacturer tries to compensate
for this fact with its minimal width – the dimensions being
139 × 71 × 7.9 mm, weighing 146 grams. It is certainly also
worth mentioning the high quality construction which will
survive even a brief bath. In terms of its equipment the Xperia Z offers all available technology from the highest class of
smart phones or a 13MPx camera able to make FullHD videos. All recordings can be saved in a 16 GB internal memory
or on a supported memory card. The Sony Xperia Z running
on the Android 4.1 OS will be available in black, white and
purple. It should cost about CZK 17,000.
HP Envy X2 is a new hybrid, two-fold device. In its full version, it is a laptop that can be turned to a tablet, without being
switched off, thanks to the detached keyboard. The tablet
part is dominated by an IPS 11.6’’ (1366 x 768) touchscreen
display and houses all operational hardware – Intel Atom
processor, 2GB memory or 64GB SSD Disc. WiFi Bluetooth or
NFC are included in the basic version. With the keyboard attached, the connectivity increases with an SD memory card
slot, HDMI output and two USB ports. Users will certainly appreciate having two cameras; the main one being 8MPx with
FullHD video recording. Fully charged tablet battery lasts for
about 5 hours, the keyboard with the secondary accumulator adds an additional 5 hours. HP Envy X2 with Windows 8
operating system will cost you about CZK 22,000.
Technology Focus
BlackBerry Z10
Samsung NX300
BlackBerry, the well-known supplier of mobile devices designed for the corporate
sector, is launching a brand new system called BlackBerry 10 with two devices:
the Z10 and Q10. The new system is equipped with a whole line of innovations
and is fully adaptable for touch control. The user interface called Flow connects
individual functions so that the Blackberry Hub, for example, which combines
contacts, provides the user with all forms of communication from various sources
and all events around them. There is also a new notification system – if a message
or any other notification arrives, the user can browse it without having to activate
the relevant application. There is great emphasis on data security, not to mention
the option of switching between different functions and applications. Regarding
accessibility to applications, more than 70,000 are available. The first device with
the new system is the Z10 touch screen model which contains a 4.2 inch display
with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. It is driven by a two-core processor of 1.5
GHz supported by a 2 GB operating memory. There is a 16 GB user memory that
can be extended by memory cards. In terms of multimedia equipment it offers an
8MPx camera and a front 2MPx camera designed for video calls. You can buy the
BlackBerry Z10 for about CZK 15,000.
If you desire your own camera that can produce not only
ordinary images, but also 3D photography, perhaps you will
be impressed by the new Samsung NX300. The heart of the
device is a sensor with a resolution of 20.3 MPx and integrated sensors for phase detection allowing faster focusing.
The built-in processor is also more agile allowing the camera
to process up to 9 images per second. The faster processor
does, of course, also have a positive effect on the video recording, which it makes in FullHD resolution at a speed of 60
images per second. The camera is controlled by a 3.3 inch
AMOLED touch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels
which can be tilted as required. It is also worth mentioning
the Wi-Fi connection which allows the produced images to
be sent immediately to a Smartphone or tablet. For the 3D
photography or 3D video, you will need to buy a special 3D
lens. The price of the camera alone is about CZK 18,000 and
the 3D lens costs about CZK 12,000.

Parking at BB Centrum
Parking in the city and next to the office? Now you don’t
have to figure out where to leave your car. You don’t have
to be worried about driving for several minutes around the
block before finding a free space.
Besides the three public car parks, there is a public underground car park below the FILADELFIE and Brumlovka
buildings. Everyone who works here, and their visitors, can
park without a problem.

Sports and entertainment at BB Centrum
Mutli-purpose playgrounds are becoming very popular in
recent years because of their extensive uses and flexibility.
Thanks to the development of new technologies, materials
and manufacturing procedures, these specially surfaced
are accessible not only to professional and top sportsmen,
but to all recreation enthusiasts with an active lifestyle.
These sports grounds are equipped with specially made
flooring which is soft and flexible, making them kinder to
the locomotive system of the human body and therefore
safer than traditional gym flooring such as wood parquet.
Other merits to these facilities include good drainage and
a low dependence on the weather.
Where to go in for sports?
One such sports ground is the new multi-purpose playground near the BBC Centrum site where a whole range of
activities are possible in one area – from team sports such
as football, floor ball, basketball, volleyball or handball to
individual sports such as badminton or tennis. One of the
main merits of this playground, located on Baarova Street,
is the fact that it operates all the year round – in the summer and winter. In the summer season it is possible to play
sports under an open sky, in the winter (from November to
April) there is a heated inflatable hall. For both these seasons
the sports ground is open to visitors every day – including
weekends and holidays – from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The
winter season will end on 26 April and the inflatable hall
will be dismantled. In terms of physical parameters, the
playground offers an area of 44 × 24 metres and is equipped
with artificial grass. The sports ground also has a modern
functional rear area which contains new changing rooms
and showers.
Prices per hour range from 350 CZK for individual sports
and at least 550 CZK per hour for team sports. If you want
to have a game of football after work with your colleagues,
visit the website www.viceucelovehriste.cz, pick a free time
and make a booking. You can also find further information
here.

Working among us
I am accustomed to fighting to the very end
The list of this young man’s sporting successes could take up
a separate article. However, the former extra league volleyball player,
Štěpán Smrčka, is far more interested in looking into the future, rather
than the past, since deciding to join the Passerinvest Group.
Q> When was the last time you held
a volley ball?
Yesterday evening. I ended my professional career several months ago, but
I still try to make use of every spare
moment to keep fit. Sitting around all
day in an office does not help anyone,
and I am no exception. Therefore
I regularly go to play beach volleyball.
Q> Do you still keep to the rules of
a sports regimen?
Subconsciously I do. Perhaps I now
keep to a healthy lifestyle more than
ever before. During daily training,
vices such as chips or alcohol can be
eliminated a bit more easily.
Q> It must have been a big change for
you to move from professional sports
to a working regime?
To be honest, I still haven’t had time
to think about it. Everything happened
so quickly. Moreover, my work is very
interesting and satisfies me. So in order to answer similar questions I will
tell my friends and family that: “I feel
great.”
Q> You work as an acquisition specialist at the Passerinvest Group. What
exactly does this job involve?
I work in the pre-planning department.
I am engaged in drawing up and evaluating new opportunities for our company and contribute to the approval
processes of emerging projects. Our
department actually starts the developer plan. We check to see if a project
conforms to the land use plan and if
it makes sense in a specific location.
Our task is to find a suitable location
on the map for ideas and draw up the
final appearance.
Q> What do you appreciate the most
about your work?
Most of all that it is so diverse. I have
the opportunity to learn new things
every day.
Q> Why did you accept the offer from
the Passerinvest Group?
I always knew that I did not want to devote my life exclusively to sports. I am
a university graduate and I wanted to
work in an interesting and constructive field. In the summer of 2011 I was

and that my future boss, Martin Unger,
had not forgotten about me after a year.
I was very glad to accept a job for such
a prestigious company as the Passerinvest Group. Not to mention that at
thirty years of age it was time to think
about retiring from sports …
Q> If you were to recommend anyone
a job at your company, what arguments would you use?
Firstly, it would be the high standard
of corporate culture. Then it would be
the vision that our company has and
the creativity with which it fulfills it.
Q> When did you realize that you are
a team player?
This probably happened when I became a sportsman. Believe me, my
road to a professional sports career
was certainly not easy, and there were
even times when I considered giving
it up. Ultimately, it was my family and
the team players who provided me
with support in difficult times. In time
I achieved the position of “bonder” and
tried to motivate the team and move
them forward. I think that this experience can be very easily transferred to
working life.
Q> What else have you adopted from
your sports career for your future life?
The desire to win. The fact that winning demands a lot of work, effort and
that it is worth fighting to the end.
Q> How did your several year stay in
France affect you?
I matured as a person above all. In my
opinion every young person should
try living abroad for some time. Get
to know a different culture and learn
to notice a different dimension of the
world. Be lucky and discover that
when someone behaves differently
than you do or believes in different
values, it still does not necessarily
mean that this is a bad thing.
Q> There is just one more question:
what hobbies does a sportsman have
besides sports?
One of the reasons why I ended my
professional sporting career was that
besides volleyball, I had no time for
anything else. During the season,
I had to be careful not to get injured
and keep to a strict training and rest
schedule so all that was left were
books, a computer and my family.
I am still finding my feet and looking to establish a regular regimen
in which I can include my hobbies.
I like to go to the cinema, ski or play
ice hockey, and perhaps my greatest
hobby is good food. I certainly know
one thing: I wish work and sports to
remain my hobbies. Both to a reasonable degree.

Tchibo is synonymous with fresh,
high-quality coffee. It is one of the
biggest coffee producers in the world
and holds a leading position in the
coffee refreshment market. Today is no
longer just about coffee, but an entirely
unique and colorful world.
Tchibo was founded in 1949 in Hamburg, Germany, where its
central office is still located. Its original coffee delivery business grew into an elaborate business model with a branched
out distribution network: Tchibo brick and mortar stores,
online shopping and a network of points of sale at selected
retail stores.
You must certainly have noticed the Tchibo stores. Currently there are thirty in the Czech Republic. They have
a wonderful smell of freshly ground coffee and cakes, and
you can also buy a jogging suit or practical kitchen utensils
for a super price. Since 2004 Tchibo has also been focusing
on the sale of consumer goods in the Czech Republic. Each
week it introduces a new themed collection of about thirty
products. The themes alternate during the year and gradually encompass all areas: from kitchens to fashion, sports,
electronics, toys, jewelry and the garden. The collections are
sold only for a limited period or while stocks last. You can
also find these collections, extended by some products, in
the online store at www.tchibo.cz.
You can taste and buy roasted coffee (in random order) at
the coffee bar. We recommend the premium range of Tchibo
Privat Kaffee coffee from the best coffee-growing regions of
the world, designer collection of products and accessories
for serving coffee and Tchibo Cafissimo coffee-makers for
making high-quality coffee at home.
At BB Centrum, you can find the Tchibo Czech central office. The Tchibo colleagues have an office in the Office Park
(BB C Villas) on Želetavská Street.

D.A.S. legal protection is the only specialised insurance company of its kind which is exclusively engaged in legal issues
and offers comprehensive legal service for everyone. The
history of the idea of legal protection dates as far back as the
Middles Ages when this involved an oath of ancient Germanic
protectionist guilds which, in any unexpected events, helped
and supported the weaker party. Legal protection as such did
not develop until the first half of the 19th century. The reason
was frequent legal disputes with other insurers and so-called
companies emerged offering insurance against insurers. Today’s form of legal protection did not appear until the early
20th century, specifically in 1917 and is associated with car
racing in Le Mans, France. During these races, racing drivers
and spectators were frequently injured and these injured
parties filed actions against the racing event organizers, or
their insurance companies and demanded compensation. To
receive this compensation they very often had to undergo
lengthy processes which also involved considerable expenses. It was then that the mutual contract company was
established, the first predecessor of today’s legal protection
insurance company. This happened at the incentive of the
Automobil Club des Westens. The first company to begin
providing drivers and racing drivers a service for covering
legal procedures was La Défense Automobile et Sportive.
Legal protection insurance gradually expanded to other
parts of Europe which was obviously connected with the
rapid development of the car industry after the Second
World War. Individual insurers gradually introduced new
products until legal protection insurance could be taken
out not just for cars, but also for private persons and businessmen. In the Czech Republic legal protection insurance
has been offered since 1995 and the Czech Republic was
the first post-communist country which introduced this
insurance.
D.A.S. offers a whole line of products and advantageous
packages which will provide reliable legal support for
you and your family and relieve you of the worries of high
legal service expenses. There are many situations which
we cannot cope with on our own, when someone places
considerable obstacles in enforcing the course of justice.
That is why there is legal protection insurance through
which it is possible, for a relatively small annual premium,
to basically arrange prepaid legal advice and necessary
legal services.

Our office is a place where we spend a minimum of eight hours
a day, but often a lot longer. Therefore, it is vital that we feel as good
as possible in our office.
Personal office versus
open office
Having a personal office, be it as small
as a cage, let alone a spacious room with
a wonderful view always relied on having a privileged position in a firm and
the appropriate job.
If two employees who “clicked” in
their working and human relationship
shared an office, this had a number of
advantages.
With the arrival of foreign companies
in the 1990s, large open-plan offices
began being built and the English term
“open space” was adopted. This trend
still continues.
The space is often divided by just
a low partition or desks being placed
in an open space one next to the other.
The furnishings are the same: a writing desk, computer or notebook, internal telephone extension, corporate pen
… There was a time when there was
a glass slab on every desk. It was not
healthy for our joints. While in the past
only the door of bookcases were glass,
today entire partitions are made of glass
that subdivide a large room or separate
it from the manager’s workplace, for
example. Glass is an interesting design
material and clear, smoked or various
colored glass can be used. The room
appears airy, clean and well-arranged.
This relates to another current trend:
a minimal amount of furniture and devices. For example, individual printers
have been replaced more or less everywhere today by a multifunctional device
for the entire office.
“I would prefer a small separate office, but I am glad that my workplace
is separated by a partition into a sort of
cell where I have at least some privacy.
I have become accustomed, but I don’t
Correctly set air-conditioning is important

If it is set to a temperature that is too low, it is important to replenish your
fluids and stay a while in an environment that is not air-conditioned before
leaving a cool office and entering a warmer outdoor environment. This will
prevents hoarseness.
It is known that air-conditioning dries out the air which needs to be humidified. Forty to fifty percent humidity is ideal for an office. Air-conditioning
can cause people to catch a cold or have problems with the upper airways,
headaches, fatigue and problems with concentration. Earlier air-conditioning
was the cause of allergies due to the circulation of bacteria, dust, mites and
mold. Today special efficient filters prevent this.

like the fact that the room cannot be aired naturally, and airconditioning disagrees with me,” says economist František
Dvořák, who thinks about the advantages and disadvantages
of the existing “office” trend. According to the advice of psychologists, it is helpful to make your working cell pleasant
with personal objects, favorite photos or plants resistant to
the ever-present air-conditioning, or with the help of flowers

sant air humidity provide an excellent environment where
you can sit with a coffee, or make private calls or chat with
colleagues during a break.
Some firms have catered to the human desire to play a sport
or game, and their employees can relax while having a game
of table football or snooker, or visit the company’s gym or
modern canteen.
While it is said that when children play, they aren’t naughty,
this can also be translated to adults to mean that when they
play they work well. Today, this is no longer exceptional in our
environment and reflects the performance and creativity of
people stimulated by a pleasant environment, as they would
find it difficult to be motivated in a boring environment.
Feng shui also applies

phone calls. If an open space does not contain several dozen
people, it is certainly easier to agree about using blinds or
airing the office instead of using the air-conditioning, if this
is possible.
Common and representational premises
In view of the fact that we spend so much time in the workplace, many firms make sure that their employees and visitors have a pleasant environment.
The former grey porter’s lodges have changed into pleasant reception areas with modern design features that blend
in with the interior and also contain living plants. Guests are
entertained and wait to be received in comfortable seats.
The boardrooms which are no longer always dominated
by a large table have changed. Separate tables are becoming
more popular which allow a varied layout.
The equipment and furnishings of an office and common
rooms also express the corporate image and portray its interest in the employee and his working conditions, if they
provide comfort and also take his health into account. For
example, the correct position of desks,
their design, distance of the eyes from
the computer screen, direct daylight,
artificial lights, ergonomically shaped
chairs and armchairs, and the color of
the walls are all important factors in the
office setting.
The offices of the top managers are
representational of course. They are
usually of an above standard layout
with a modern design or in an antique
style with the interior is made complete
by art works.
Relaxation of employees
Places of rest designed for the relaxation of employees working long hours

When implementing the principles of Feng shui (the
Chinese teachings about the harmony of human life and the
creation of a pleasant workplace), one takes into account
the sides of the world and the purpose of the office, job and
program. What is also crucial are the colors and decoration of the office, the need to increase, reduce or stabilize
energy for a person, and choice of office furniture and its
layout in consideration of pathogenic zones. Likewise, it is
important to observe to movement of energy lines, whether
it is escaping, being blocked or moving freely. Of primary
concern is the layout of the room, including the location of
the desk and of objects in your direct vision which, among
other things, express different objectives, recognition,
partnership, the past, future and knowledge. It is observed
that individual changes in layout have an effect on work
results and the mood of people mutually harmonizing in
their energy.
It is not always possible to create a perfect environment, but many creative solutions can be made, depending on the situation, one’s experience and personal
perception.

Baarova Residential Park? Yes, according to judges at the prestigious
competitions Stavba roku (Building of the Year) and Realitní projekt
roku (Real Estate Project of the Year) this is a residential project to
be remembered, and you can even come to see to be convinced.
22
Baarova Residential Park
It is no exaggeration that the Baarova Residential Park is
a unique project in Prague. It is located in the Prague district of Michle right next to BB Centrum. Its architectural
concept “is based on the idea of a continuous and natural
transition between the original villa development of the
neighborhood and the modern multifunctional BB Centrum complex”. This is the philosophy of the developer,
the PASSERINVEST GROUP, and also the project’s description on the list of awarded buildings of the 20th
annual Building of the Year competition. According to
the Prize of the Mayor of the Capital City of Prague and
the judges, Baarova Residential Park is a structure with
the most distinctive contribution to the development of
the capital city.
The project also scored points in the autumn at a show of
the best Czech developer projects. The unique residential
project was presented with two awards at the second annual
prestigious Real Estate Project of the Year competition: the
award for a project implemented in Prague 4 and the Prize
of Architects.
“We greatly appreciate all the awards because we are convinced that the Baarova Residential Park is a truly unique
project implemented in an attractive location that has wonderful facilities and very good access to transport. I think the
awards are proof of this,” was the response of Radim Passer,
Chief Executive Officer of the PASSERINVEST GROUP.
To rent or to buy?
Baarova Residential Park offers both options.
In view of the fact that flats in the Baarova Residential Park
are intended primarily to be sold, the developer is also trying
to meet the growing demand for rented housing. Therefore,
last autumn it offered several flats for rent. All the flats in the
first wave were rented successfully.
As of this March it will offer to rent
a further 9 interesting residential units
in the Baarova Residential Park. These
1 room+kb to 4 room+kb (kitchen/bathroom) flats ranging in size from 52 to
116 metres square are fully furnished
with kitchen units and all appliances.
Each flat has one parking bay in an
underground garage and a spacious
cellar chamber.
A total of 139 residential units with
three standard facilities were built
in the Baarova Residential Park. It is
possible to choose from 2 room+kb to
6 room+kb flats with a balcony, terrace
or front garden. The dimensions of
these flats range from 50 to 170 m2 and
besides the high standard of materials
and furnishings, they are attractive
because of their unusually clear room
height which is 2.75 metres.
The Baarova Residential Park is made
up of three separate residential buildings between which there is an inner
block with a charming inner garden.
Each of the buildings has a separate
entrance from the street and from the
neighboring Baarova Park with a pool
and big water fountain. The main
reception and security camera constantly monitor the safety and peace
of the residents, and the entrances into
the grounds are protected by a card
system.

The building of the Elijáš Primary
School is filled with a special charm.
Approaching it, you get the impression
of being in a place full of sunlight –
even on cloudy days.
“The atmosphere of the school is
determined by the mutual relations
between the parents, children and
teachers. And good relations logically
create a good atmosphere,” explains the
headmistress, Hana Loderová, who was
our guide for today. Together we climb
a wide light Art Nouveau staircase and
admire the carefully reconstructed
building. You can really feel something
remarkable and a perceptive person
recognizes that these premises are
being influenced by God’s Spirit. “So
we should start our tour in the chapel,”
adds the headmistress with a smile and
invites us in.
Room for stories
In fact, the school chapel looks like
a meditation room, with airy space, light
painted walls, a carpet and colourful
cushions for sitting. The walls are deco-

rated with simple abstract motifs. “Here
we meet with the children once a week.
We sing, tell stories from the Bible and
through them learn about the values
that are most important for our life. By
choosing a subject, we try to get the children to find answers to what they are
currently interested in or what worries
them,” describes Hana Loderová.
About 50 pupils in six grades attend
the Elijáš Primary School at this time.
What sort of children are they? “We
have children here of various nationalities and various cultures. Children

the World”. The children at our school learn the Bible, the book
inspired by God and we teach them to regard this book one
day as an obvious part of life. We hope that the children get
the chance to learn about the Creator but we do not take them
to any church.
With one’s own eyes
From the chapel we go to see a class of Christian instruction.
Fourth grade pupils greet us by traditionally getting up, however they immediately return to their work. Their assignment
is the subject of “What is faith”?” The teacher walks among
the pupils, encourages them and discusses with them. I personally think it is very difficult to explain such an abstract
concept to children. However two girls in the first row have
a clear idea. Faith is something that should not tie them down.
“We try to convey certain moral values to our children. I am
not saying that they will have an easier life in today’s tough
world of sharp elbows, but they will certainly have the chance
to be their own person,” adds Hana Loderová.
from Christian families and atheist families attend the Elijáš
Primary School. This trend is quite normal abroad,” says
the headmistress when she notices our surprise. “It would
be good to realise that our school must observe the General
Education Program just as every other. Unlike teaching at an
ordinary primary school, our children also have a class in
Christian instruction which is part of the subject “Man and
Care throughout the day
The headmistress gradually takes us to all the classes. She
knows all the pupils by name and they, in turn, behave with
friendly respect. It seems that a smaller group is better not
just for the teachers, but also the children. There is also
a family atmosphere during the reading class in the third
grade. The small readers sit comfortably on bean bags and
laugh together over a book of recollections by Vlasta Burian.
“Our school tries to create a safe social environment. Our goal
is to see contented children and contented parents. It is true
that education is of enormous value, and parents should
be aware that values cost money,” the headmistress refers
to the compulsory school fee which is 12,000 CZK a year.
“Our school offers a numerous range of afternoon activities
such as English conversation, art and music workshops,
sports and computer clubs … All under one roof. So parents
are relieved of a lot of responsibilities and know that their
children are safe and looked after on our premises virtually until the late afternoon. Our after-school club is open
till 5.30 p.m.,” concludes Hana Loderová. We say goodbye
to the headmistress and leave with a feeling that besides
the modern facilities of the classrooms and the marvellous
study environment, the Elijáš Primary School also offers
a natural ability to develop and strengthen love in people
and guide them towards spiritual values. This is certainly
something substantial.

There are only few people who do not
wish to lead a healthy, balanced and
primarily happy life. But what does
it mean to be happy? As this term is
quite vague, highly subjective and
a bit naive, it is not fit for any life goals
definitions. For the research purposes,
it is often interchanged with terms like
quality of life, contentment, success,

and pleasant. Modern psychology does
not link the feeling of happiness with
satisfaction of one’s needs and tends to
connect it with the feeling of “eternal
contentment”. There is a large, but rather poorly mapped, space between the
second-lasting orgastic happiness and

methods for reaching happiness, published throughout the history of reason.
Most published methods connect hap-

During the moments it is lacking, we

Exhibition
What? Proudění radosti (Flow of Joy)
Where? Prague Castle Riding School
When? 1 February – 8 May 2013
You can see the retrospective exhibition of a prominent figure of the Czech art scene, Karel Malich
(born 1924), until 8 May in the rooms of the Prague Castle Riding School.
This is an extraordinary exhibition not just for the collection of wire sculptures, reliefs, objects or
pastels from the late 1950s, some of which can be seen for the first time, but for the way it is installed
by Federico Díaz, Malich’s pupil during the time he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague. Unlike
the traditional spatial layout, the works are left in an open space which is the best way to understanding Malich’s thinking about solid matter and free flowing energy. In the spirit of this approach a large
custom-made carpet was woven to cover the entire floor space in the Riding School. In essence the
installation becomes a further artefact of the exhibition.
What? Dabing Street, director Petr Zelenka
Where? Dejvické Theatre
When? Since December 2012
Dabing Street is the third play written by playwright and
filmmaker Petr Zelenka for Dejvické theatre. This time, he
also directed the piece. In a story about a dubbing studio
and its owner, a notorious alcoholic, Zelenka tried to show
the turn the Czech society experienced towards the end of
the 90’s when, in the words of the director: “fun died”. The
motto of the play claims: “There are two things that Czechs
really excel at: drinking alcohol and dubbing.”
What? The Garden Party, Václav Havel,
directed by Dušan Pařízek
When? 13 and 14 June 2013
Where? Estates Theatre, Prague
This absurd comedy by Václav Havel about the career minded Hugo Pludek, which was performed for the first time in
1963 in the Theatre Na zábradlí, still remains current and
dangerously alive even fifty years later. This is a story of
an adaptive opportunist who manages to talk his way into
better society, and is able to mimic others so well that not
even his own parents recognise him anymore. The role of
Hugo is played by Martin Pechlát, with Alois Švehlík, Eva
Salzmannová, Roman Zach and Petra Špalková
What? Mucha: Lendl
Where? Municipal House
When? April – July 2013
A private collection of 116 original Alfons Mucha posters will be presented at
the Municipal House by the former tennis star, Ivan Lendl, who collected them
for thirty years. Visitors will have the unique opportunity of seeing almost all of
Alfons Mucha’s original posters together.

Dance
What? Festival Dance Prague
When? 27 May to 4 July 2013
The International Festival of the Contemporary Dance and
Movement Theatre TANEC PRAGUE (DANCE PRAGUE) is
the annual climax of the dance season. The festival’s important mission is to inspire and confront home artists and
enable the broadest section of the lay public to see contemporary trends and top performances in the field of theatre
dance not just in Prague. The 25th jubilee year will also be
staged in about ten other cities in the Czech Republic. Work
is intensely underway preparing the festival’s programme
and the names of the main festival stars are already known.
These will be the British choreographer and dancer, Akram
Khan, and the Flemish theatre dance company Peeping
Tom.
What? The Great Gatsby, directed by Baz Luhrmann, USA/Australia
When? Premiere 16 May 2013
A new adaptation of the famous Francis Scott Fitzgerald novel takes the spectator back into the roaring “Jazz Age” in which the sudden economic prosperity is
accompanied by the loss of moral values. The hero of the story, Nick Carraway,
moves to Long Island immediately next door to the residence of millionaire Jay
Gatsby. He is gradually drawn into the life of this mysterious millionaire obsessed
by winning back his old sweetheart from the First World War, Daisy Buchanan, who
had to marry the wealthy Tom. Jay, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, makes his money
from trading in alcohol during the era of prohibition and wastes his days on extravagant parties. The visual cherry on the cake of this love story from high society full
of pretence and extravagance are the dazzling jewels from the collections of Tiffany
& Co. which the company created exclusively for this film.
What? Night Train to Lisbon, directed by Bille August,
Switzerland/Germany/Portugal
When? Premiere 28 March 2013
Raimun Gregorius, the hero of the film based on the most famous and globally
successful book by Swiss author Pascal Mercier, is professor of old languages at
a grammar school in Bern. This elderly gentleman, with his habits and established
rituals who is not expected to significantly alter his ordered life, meets a mysterious woman one morning and his life begins to take a totally different direction.
Jeremy Irons appears in the main role of this film which shows that it is never too
late to make great changes in your life.

léto/summer
Letní sezona je tady!
Summer is here!
Kalendář akcí
Event Calendar
pohybu bez zatížení kloubů a doskoků. Díky tomu, že se při jednom cviku
aktivuje více svalových skupin najednou, je cvičení mnohem efektivnější.
Náročnost cviků a intenzitu zátěže si stanovíte sami podle své fyzické
kondice. Lekce vedou Libor Hrubý, Pavel Švehla a Karel Jarušek. Více se
dozvíte z fotoseriálu na str. 4. Další novinkou je TRX, neboli „Training Re-
sistance Exercise“. Závěsný systém TRX je originální nářadí, které jako zátěž
při cvičení využívá pouze hmotnost cvičence. Po celou dobu cvičení
buduje svalovou sílu, posiluje rovnováhu a aktivuje stabilizační svalstvo.
Bylo vyvinuto pro potřeby amerického námořnictva, ale je vhodné pro
cvičence všech fitness úrovní. Cvičení na TRX splňuje všechny požadavky
kvalitního funkčního tréninku. Z důvodu dodržení zdravotních a funkčních
principů je ale možné na TRX cvičit pouze s trenérem. Ve fitness zóně také
máme nový stroj Triceps od firmy Star Trac, jehož zaměření je výmluvně
ukryto již v jeho názvu. Přejeme vám krásné léto!
Summary: Summer, the time of vacations and trips to sunny regions,
has finally begun. We will help you feel great and look great in the swim-suit
season. We have prepared a couple of hot novelties in the Balance Club.
One of them is the Flowin training concept, based on natural and continuous movement without the strain of joints and landings. Thanks to it you
activate more muscle groups in one exercise at a time and the exercise is
more effective. You can set the intensity of exercises and the intensity of
load according to your physical fitness. The sessions are led by Libor Hrubý,
Pavel Švehla and Karel Jarušek. You can learn more from the photo series on
page 4. The other novelty is TRX, or “Training Resistance Exercise”. The suspended TRX system is the original equipment which uses the trainee’s weight
as a load in exercise. During the whole time of exercise, muscle strength
and balance is developed and the stabilizing muscles are activated. It was
developed for the needs of the American Navy, but it is suitable for trainees
at all fitness levels. Exercise on TRX meets all the requirements of quality
effective training. In order to meet the medical and functional principles
you can only utilise TRX with a trainer for 30 or 60 minutes. We also have
a new machine called Triceps in the fitness zone from Star Trac, the purpose
of which is apparent in its name. We wish you a beautiful summer!
