Report on Scientific Meets on “Radiation and Cancer”
organized at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College & Safdarjung
Hospital and Army College of Medical Sciences & Base Hospital.
NPCIL has been organizing a series of scientific meets on Radiation and
Cancer for doctors and paramedical staff at various places across the country to
allay the unfounded fears about radiation & cancer and nuclear safety issues.
On the same line, two Scientific Meets were organized for the doctors and
paramedical staff of Vardhman Mahavir Medical College & Safdarjung
Hospital(VMMC& SJH) and Army College of Medical Sciences & Base Hospital
(ACMS&BH) on August 19 and 20, 2015 respectively. About 315 Medical
Professionals participated in the above programs.
The intent of the program was to provide factual information to the doctors
on no linkages between radiation and cancer. Doctors being the connectors of the
society can help to dispel the apprehensions of general public about radiation and
cancer. In the meets, various aspects of nuclear power viz; Need of Nuclear Energy
and Safety of Nuclear Power Plants, Radiation Omnipresence, Relationship of
Cancer & Radiation, and Retrospective Analysis of Health Profile of Employees of
NPCIL were covered.
In the above scientific meet Dr. Jugal Kishore, Prof. & Head Dept. of
Community Medicine, VMMC & SJH, Shri Gaurav Sharma, TS, NAPS, Shri
Ashok Gupta, Head (HPU), NAPS, Dr. Jayant Sastri Goda, Associate Professor,
Radio Oncology, ACTREC,TMC Prof. (Dr.) K. T. Bhowmik, Addl. MS, VMMC
& SJH and Dr. R. Deolalikar, Medical Officer, NAPS made presentations.
After the presentations Q&A sessions were conducted in which questions
asked by the participants were addressed to the satisfaction of the participants.
NPCIL Coffee Table Books were presented to the deans of both the medical
colleges by NPCIL officials.
