Welcome from Father Steve
Dear Sacred Heart Gala Participants,
I was excited when I heard about the theme for this year’s gala,
“A Black and White Affair,” because I already had an appropriate
outfit to wear, and black and white is my favorite color scheme. I also
had a lot of fun at last year’s gala (my first at Sacred Heart), and so
I knew that this year would be another great event.
As you know, this gala is a major contribution by our Parents’ Club
to support the budget at Sacred Heart School; we depend a great deal
on the money that will be raised tonight to continue to support
excellence in so many ways at our school. And this year we are adding
to our school’s endowment through our Fund-a-Need. We want to
fund our endowment at a level that will allow us to have an additional
source of revenue to support Sacred Heart School.
I want to thank all of you for being here tonight and offering your
support to Sacred Heart School whether you are a parent of a current
Sacred Heart student, a school alumnus/a, a member of our school
or parish staff, a Sacred Heart parishioner or someone who is
connected to our school in another way. It is through your generosity,
and so many like you, that tonight will be a success and help our
school to continue its mission of providing “an excellent academic
education in an environment of faith and virtue.” Please consider
how tonight you will be able to contribute to Sacred Heart School to
encourage our students to do their best.
May God bless you and your families. Know that you are in my
prayers. Thanks for being here tonight. If you have a moment please
say hello—I will be wearing a black suit with a white collar.
In the peace of Christ,
Father Steve Sallis, Pastor
Welcome From The Principal
Dear Supporters of Sacred Heart School,
Welcome to “A Black & White Affair”, Sacred Heart School’s annual
gala auction. The auction is both our most important fundraiser and
the largest social event of the year. Your attendance and bidding this
evening help to support the programs you and your children value at
Sacred Heart School like our school counselor, library, and math and
reading specialists.
Being here tonight also helps us to live out our call to be more than
a school, but also to be a community. Social events like this, and the
other adult and family opportunities throughout the year, make
possible the connections and friendships that make this such a special
place to learn, work, and grow in faith.
This year our Fund-a-Need is once again the school’s endowment.
Three years ago the school commission and I made a commitment
to make the endowment the Fund-a-Need for three years in order to
give it the boost it needed. One of the goals of our five year strategic
plan, which is wrapping up this year, is for our endowment to reach
$1,000,000. Currently it sits at about $850,000. With your help
tonight we can reach our goal by the end of 2014. But this Fund-aNeed is about more than just reaching a goal. It’s about the future of
our children and grandchildren. The endowment gives us all the
opportunity to make a multi-generational gift in support of the
students and programs of Sacred Heart School. So, please carefully
and prayerfully consider how much you can give to ensure that the
school you love today will continue to thrive next year, and in the
next decade, and the next century.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our students and the
programs and people who help them to grow in mind, body, and
soul. May this Black & White evening be an Affair you will remember
for years to come!
In gratitude,
David Burroughs
Welcome From The Director of Development
Thank you for joining us as we celebrate our Sacred Heart
community with the 31st Annual SHS Gala Auction, A Black & White
Affair. This evening’s event is sponsored by the Parents’ Club, and
monies raised go directly towards the teachers and programs that
build our children’s education and serve our Catholic faith. As you
enjoy the photo booths, beverages and appetizers we hope that you
will also find the addition of mobile bidding an easier way for you to
socialize and bid on the items you are interested in.
But, the evening doesn’t happen without our many dedicated
volunteers. So please join me in extending a special “thank you” to
everyone who has given of their time, talent and energy to make this
evening a success. It has been truly amazing to watch the myriad of
events, parties, projects and donations that have come together to
create this special evening.
Being a part of the biggest fundraising event for Sacred Heart School
has given many of us the opportunity to meet people in
our community we may have not met otherwise. Parents with
middle-school children interact with parents of children that are just
starting out in elementary. This is what makes working on the auction
a unique volunteer opportunity. Won’t you consider joining the fun
and being a part of a community-wide event?
So, take a moment, look at the decorations, bid on the silent auction
items, buy a raffle ticket, take a chance on mystery wine and get
involved. You’ll be glad you did!
Sincerely,
Theresa Daigle
Evening Extras
2014 Sacred heart school auction
Black & White Candid Pictures for $30
Take home a black and white 5 x 7 picture of your Sacred Heart
student and friends. The beautifully matted photos will showcase
your children with their friends on the playground or in the
school.
Mystery Wine
Take a chance for only $40!
Seventy-five mysterious wine bottles are on display. Each bottle is
disguised so as to not reveal its identity. However, we can reveal that
this top secret collection is made up of both red and white wines all
retailing from $25 and up. This outstanding selection ranges from
delicious table wines and premium bottles to the award-winning
Caymus 2011 Napa Special Edition Cabernet.
Play the wine game by visiting the Mystery Wine display, selecting a
bottle using your bid number and then unveil your prize. Is Lady
Luck smiling on you? Let’s see.
Wine Upgrade
This year we are excited to offer three delicious wines from
EFESTE, an award-winning winery owned by SHS family Kevin
and Angela Taylor. EFESTE wines are created utilizing native
fermentation, which encourages more complexity and produces
fuller, richer wines than those inoculated with commercial yeast.
The natural yeast within the grapes creates flavors unique to each
particular vineyard. A limited amount will be available the evening
of the auction. If supplies allow, additional orders will available
at the Premium Wine Table during the Silent Auction.
Evening Extras
2014 Sacred heart school auction
2010 Big Papa Cabernet Sauvignon for $75
Be one of the last to taste this complex 2010 vintage that always
sells out! Crafted with fruit from some of the oldest vines in the
state, this Cabernet Sauvignon is bold and dynamic. According
to Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, “Incredibly rich, layered and
pure, it boasts first-rate aromas and flavors of creme de cassis,
toasted bread, coffee bean and mint as well as a full-bodied,
elegant and thrillingly textured mouthfeel.”
2010 Ceidleigh Syrah for $60
“Ceidleigh” Syrah (pronounced kay-Lee), made entirely from
Red Mountain grapes, has the distinction of being rated the #34
wine in world in 2006. This dark purple wine explodes on the
palette as a lush wine with blackberry while having great focus and
expressions of green tea and eucalyptus. This wine is made with
indigenous yeast and malolactic cultures to showcase the identity
of the wine through the unique place and time of the fruit’s
growth.
2011 Lola Chardonnay for $50
Not your typical American Chardonnay, Lola is sourced from a
high elevation and a cool vineyard. The resulting wine is elegantly
balanced with nuances of caramelized sugar, baked spiced apple,
apricot skin and lemon candy. This is far from the fat, oaky,
buttery Chardonnay one has come to expect, and has been one of
the most highly rated Chardonnays in Washington.

Fund-a-Need
Give a gift for our Future
In 2007, Sacred Heart School created its first endowment.
Over the years, we have raised our paddles to help ensure the
financial security of Sacred Heart School. Tonight, we
continue this tradition. The Sacred Heart School Endowment
is a permanent fund, the principal of which is never spent.
The funds are invested and earn annual income for the school
in perpetuity. This helps pay for everything from tuition
assistance and teacher salaries to books and technology. Your
gift to the Endowment lasts forever. The current value of our
endowment is approximately $850,000.
This year we are asking for your assistance to reach the
$1,000,000 goal. With your help tonight we can come closer
to reaching our goal by the end of 2014. The endowment
gives us all the opportunity to make a multi-generational
gift in support of the students and programs of Sacred
Heart School.
Thank you in advance for supporting
our school today and in the future

2nd Grade Art
At A Glance
Can you spot your child’s profile in a hand-cut portrait of the
second grade? Some have a long braid, a tuft of hair with a
mind of its own, long eye lashes or that perfect little ski-jump
nose. No two children are the same and this piece of
art makes that clear. Each silhouette is paired with a hand
written name tag making identifying everyone easy. You’ll
want to keep this momento of your child’s life for years
to come.
Many thanks,
the second grade class

Restrictions: Two nights only. Mutually agreed upon date. Activities
not included. Expires one year from date of purchase.

8th Grade Art
Faith, Friendship and Love
After 9 years, our 8th Graders certainly know what Sacred
Heart School means to them. Each student was asked to paint
their vision on canvas. Faith, Family, Friendship, Love and
Potential are just some of the things our student leaders chose
to represent. Individual canvasses have been brought together
into a single colorful and thoughtful piece of art representing
the best of what Sacred Heart School means to each child.
This artwork embodies what our Class of 2014 loves most
about their school.
Many thanks,
Ellen Tobin and the eighth grade class

Seastar Dinner for 6
Enjoy an evening in Bellevue
Chef John Howie’s Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar opened
in the Spring of 2002 to incredible accolades and reviews.
Since opening, Seastar continues to receive high praise and
awards from Wine Spectator, FOOD & WINE, Sunset, and
KING 5 Evening Magazine just to name a few. Seastar treats
their guests to an amazing array of freshly prepared seafood,
steaks, poultry and raw bar items by talented staff and
renowned chef John Howie.
Chef John Howie will arrange a wonderful 5-course dinner
for 6 people paired with wines at Seastar Bellevue. This night
will be one to remember.
