Dear SLS Families,
Signs of the arrival of autumn are all around us: bonfires, football
games, leaf piles, apple bushels, crisp fall air. These are reminders
of renewal and change, how we continually adapt and evolve
through learning.
Tomorrow, while our students are enjoying a day away from
school, our teachers and administrators will be attending a series
of workshops to enhance their knowledge and technique. I am
inspired every day by the ways our teachers move beyond the
textbook to keep our students engaged and motivated to learn.
Our students are learning inside and outside the classroom. The
Fall Enrichment Program is in full swing with classes that go above
and beyond classroom learning and include Science, Art, Athletics,
Reading, Math and Technology. Our winter offerings will be
available in the coming weeks and I highly recommend enrolling
your K-5 students for one of these wonderful programs.
With our Science Lab in full use (we finally have lab stools!), our
Science curriculum has truly come alive for our students. The life
cycle of plants and animals, the study of habitat, the dissection of a
fish – these are some of the many labs that are teaching students
about scientific deduction and reasoning. Our students are
energized and it is awesome to witness.
Thank you for nurturing a passion for learning!
With God’s Blessing,

and prayer. If you have an intention for
anyone who is in need of prayer, please
let the office know and we can add it to
our Prayer Corner.
Please pray for the Mrs. Mack’s
friend who is battling cancer.
Please pray for the O’Connor
family as they mourn the loss of
Mike O’Connor’s father and

Trenton.
NEW Art Enrichment Program
Added for K-2
“Craft Club” for K-2 students will start after school on October 15 for
six weeks with Mrs. Wilmot. Program details can be found in the
Enrichment Brochure along with the registration form. Please submit
forms and payment on or before October 13.
Attendance at SLS
Morning:
Just a reminder that if your student will not be in school for any reason,
please call the office at 586-5200 to let Mrs. Aldred or Mrs. Kepes know.
With cold and flu season upon us, we are beginning to have a steady
stream of absences. We are required to account for all of our students
and if you do not notify the office of an absence, we must find out why
the child is absent.
Afternoon:
Any changes in dismissal for your child must be communicated to
the SLS office by 2:00 pm. With many students to account for at
dismissal, solidifying this information earlier in the school day ensures
that your child will follow the correct dismissal plan. Regular pick-ups
occur in the Manse beginning at 3:05; please be sure that any adult
picking up walks through the Manse and has their name checked off by a
staff member.
2015-2016 Directory
This is the last call for changes/corrections to our SLS Family
Directory. Please review the directory that was emailed to all families to
verify that your information is correct. Please email Mrs. Aldred at
[email protected] with any changes or updates. A final version will be
emailed out in the next few weeks.
Magazine drive final count
Since another $1500 of sales have trickled in online since Pig Race day,
the school finished with $30,500 in sales PLUS $2695 in cash/check
donations, making for a very successful fundraiser. Congrats to Shamrock
Jack's repeat performance earning Mrs. Mulligan's class the Ice Cream
Prize and to Mrs. Mack's class for winning the Pizza Party with $213
average sales/ pupil. Top sellers were Sean P, Abby A. and Evan A. Great
job everyone!.

Visiting Author: Peter Catalanotto
On Friday, November 6th, we will host a visit with Author/Illustrator Peter
Catalanotto. He will share his background and experience, referring to his
most popular picture books, chapter books and drawings. All students in
Grades K-5 will participate in 45 minute sessions. Various selections will be
previewed in Library classes prior to his arrival.
All families will have the opportunity to purchase his books which will be
autographed during his visit. Attached is the order form for pre-ordering
books.
Please respond with your selection(s), and a check payable to St.
Louis School no later than Thursday, October 15. Books will be distributed the week after his visit.
For more information about Mr. Catalanotto’s books, please visit the website www.petercatalanotto.com.
On November 6, your children will be meeting author and illustrator, Peter Catalanotto. During his presentations, he will share with the
students how he is initially inspired by a project and walk them all the way through to the finished paintings. When Peter illustrates someone else’s text, he hopes to extend the words by adding new ideas into the art. “My pictures stray from the words, but not from the story.”
In addition to discussing where he gets his ideas, and how he develops them, Mr. Catalanotto will also draw for the children.
If you wish to purchase books, to be autographed for your child or as a gift to someone else, please indicate the quantity of each book you
would like and fill in the information below.
Please make payment to St. Louis School. Deadline for orders is on or before OCTOBER 15.
PICTURE BOOKS
The Newbies (new release- hardcover)----------------------------------------------------------------------$18.00___________
Luke is used to having Mom and Dad all to himself, to play soccer and build forts with. But now that they are expecting a new baby, they
always are too tired or too busy to play. So Luke dreams of having new parents to play with—the newbies! His new parents have all the
time in the world for Luke, but some things just aren’t quite right...like the way new Dad’s pancakes are different, and how new Mom
doesn’t cut sandwiches into triangles. Getting all the attention is wonderful, but Luke wonders if perhaps his original parents are still the
best parents for him!
Question Boy Meets Little Miss Know It All (hardcover)-----------------------------------------------$18.00__________
Question Boy wants answers. He lives for them. But none of the town’s action heroes—Oil Man, Paperboy, Police Woman—can satisfy
Question Boy’s heroic need to know! Enter Little Miss Know-It-All. She has an answer for every who-what-where-when-and-how…and what
she doesn’t know she simply makes up. And what about you? Ready for a wrangle? Keen on a quibble? Then come along to the town park
to cheer the two of them on!
(Previewed with Grades 2 and 3 in Library)
Ivan the Terrier (hardcover)----------------------------------------------------------------------------------$17.00___________
Several bedtime stories are interrupted by a feisty Jack Russell Terrier who is looking for playmates. Children will laugh as classic fairy-tales
are turned upside down by a little dog with a big bark.
Dylan’s Day Out (paperback)---------------------------------------------------------------------------------$ 8.00___________
Dylan, a bored dalmation, steals outside to freedom one morning. While galloping towards country meadows, he is upended by a soccer
ball....Dylan ends up tending goal for the Penguins and leads them to victory.
(Previewed with Kindergarten and Grade 1in Library)
Kitten Red, Yellow, Blue (hardcover)----------------------------------------------------------------------- $18.00___________
Sixteen calico kittens -- the number of colors in a crayon box. Their mother, Sophie, knows one from another...but how do you think Mrs.
Tuttle tells those kittens apart?
Daisy 1,2,3 (hardcover) -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------$18.00___________
Sixteen calico kittens -- the number of colors in a crayon box. Their mother, Sophie, knows one from another...but how do you think Mrs.
Tuttle tells those kittens apart? Peter Catalanotto's sequel to his Matthew A.B.C. and Daisy 1, 2, 3 invites long looking, counting, and laughing!
Matthew A.B.C. (paperback)----------------------------------------------------------------------------------$ 8.00___________
A new child named Matthew enters Mrs. Tuttle’s class, which already has 25 other students with the same name.
Mr. Mumble (paperback) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------$ 8.00___________
“The success of this book hinges on the element of surprise and the humor readers find in Mr. Mumble's strange predicament: he
awakens one morning with a mysterious throat complaint that results in a series of miscommunications and unbidden results. Intending to buy a dozen bagels he receives a dozing beagle, a panda bear instead of a pound of pears etc....Impressive" School Library Journal (Previewed with Grades 4 and 5 in Library)
Emily’s Art (paperback) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------$ 8.00___________
"What a gorgeous painting," exclaimed the judge of Ms. Fair's first-grade art contest. "What a beautiful rabbit!" For Emily, the
words are a shock. Her painting is of her dog, Thor. Not a rabbit. But instead of thinking: What's wrong with this judge? Emily takes
the words, and the judgment, to heart. Just as she takes her art. (Previewed with all classes in Library)
EARLY CHAPTER BOOKS
Monkey & Robot (paperback)---------------------------------------------------------------------------------$ 6.00__________
Monkey and Robot are friends—the best kind. They simply belong together, and it never matters that silly Monkey is furry, or that
kind Robot can rust. What matters is their sharing: movies and popcorn, games of hide-and-seek, a fish tank for…a hippopotamus?
More Monkey Boy & Robot (paperback) -------------------------------------------------------------------$ 6.00__________
Monkey and Robot are the best of friends—and they have the best of adventures! This chapter book includes four (more!) playful
stories. Monkey always gets in the wildest of messes. And Robot is always there to help him out. After all, what are best friends
for? “Readers looking for funny friendship stories but who think that Frog and Toad and other early readers are a tad too easy will
find this unlikely duo just right,” says Horn Book Magazine about the Monkey and Robot series.
