Giving to the Walsh College Foundation
The Walsh College Foundation was established to encourage private
giving and to ensure the integrity of the philanthropy program.
By supporting students, academics, and the learning environment,
donors provide a vital revenue stream that helps to build a thriving
economic community through educated individuals.
There are a number of ways that you can support the Walsh College
Foundation. You can direct your gift to student scholarships,
programs, and facilities immediately through a contribution to the
Annual Fund, or you can contact our Development staff to discuss
creating a specific scholarship or program.
Gifts can be made by personal check, credit card, or through the
secure online donation form found on our website at
walshcollege.edu/giving. You may also contact one of our
Development staff members.

Walsh classes are smaller;
you get more one-on-one
attention from real-world
professionals who are very
knowledgeable. I feel almost
an obligation or a loyalty to
myself – I’m the first college
graduate. It goes right back to
my father. It was, ‘do the right
thing’. That is what I’ve always
tried to do.

At Walsh I can really get
in, focus on my studies, and
get out. One of my favorite
classes – this is going to
sound kind of dorky – is
qualitative statistics; it totally
kicked my butt. It’s probably
one of my favorites so far. I’m
a big believer in education.

SCHOLARSHIP
Scott Bajorek
PCAOB Scholarship Recipient
Bachelor of Accountancy, Spring 2011
Walsh is one of only 52 U.S. and four Michigan
colleges selected by the Public Company
Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) to award
individual $10,000 merit-based scholarships
for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Bachelor of Accountancy student Scott Bajorek
of Chesterfield Township was nominated by
Accounting Department Chair Rick Berschback
to receive the one-time award. It covers eligible
expenses for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and
equipment for enrollment or attendance at an
educational institution.
Prof. Berschback nominated Bajorek based
on his interest and aptitude in accounting and
auditing and his demonstration of high ethical
standards. Bajorek also tutors all of the Walsh
intermediate accounting courses.
“I really appreciate Prof. Berschback
nominating me,” Bajorek said. “Walsh has
a good reputation for Accounting – it’s their
legacy program. I would recommend Walsh
to anyone serious about business and
accounting.”
18
As he was studying at Macomb Community
College, Bajorek said it was easy to plan his
course equivalencies by using the Walsh
transfer guide. When he made the transfer to
Walsh, Bajorek stepped down from a full-time
supervisor job at Home Depot to work part
time in order to focus on Accounting. “It’s my
number one priority,” he said.
Married and the father of a 2-1/2 year old
daughter, Scott Bajorek recalls growing up
watching his father, Walsh alumnus Joseph L.
Bajorek (BBA-FIN ’89), study toward his Walsh
degree while working at General Motors.
Bajorek would like to work in public accounting
after graduating in March and passing the CPA
examination. After attending the Walsh Career
Fair, Bajorek secured interviews with CPA firms
and later took part in the day-long “Discover
Rehmann” event hosted by Career Services.
“Walsh has opened a lot of doors for me,” he
said.
He appreciates the level of detail and attention
employees pay to students. “The Financial Aid
office is proactive in getting you as many loans
and grants as possible,” he said. “Someone
took the time to check my file and see that

The Public Company Accounting Oversight
Board Scholarship
The non-profit Public Company Accounting
Oversight Board (PCAOB) was established by
the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 to oversee
public company and broker-dealer audits to
protect investors and to further public interest
in the preparation of informative, accurate, and
independent audit reports.
The Act mandates that any funds collected
from monetary penalties imposed by the
PCAOB are to fund a merit scholarship
program for students in accredited accounting
degree programs.
