Membership Chair and Advertising Manager
Hello my fellow BMW car enthusiasts! I have recently stepped into the positions on the Board
of Directors for the RMC BMW CCA as the Member Chair and the Advertising Manager for the
chapter. In addition, I will be the event coordinator for the 2016 Winter Celebration.
I have worked within the Hotel, Sales & Catering world for many years. In addition I worked
in Florence, Italy for several years for an Italian cooking school. Getting out and doing all day
hikes, detailing my 335xi, riding rollercoasters & autocrossing are top on my favorite things to
do. I am married to John Cram and have the best son ever, Jordon Cram.
I was born and raised in Wisconsin and have been residing in Colorado now for the last 21
years. I live at 9000 elevation so my playground and the roads I drive are pretty spectacular.
I am a passionate Green Bay Packer fan. I fell in love with BMWs in my 20s and have been
driving them ever since ~ manual of course and always! I joined the car club about three years
ago on a recommendation from a friend, Jason Lewis. I attended my first O’Fest in Beaver
Creek and had a complete blast. Started Autocrossing with the club last year and will be
getting to High Plains Memorial Day weekend for the 2-day driving school. I got the driving bug
at O’Fest. It hit me hard. Someone at O’Fest turned to me after the drifting competition and
said, “Well that is just about the most fun you can have with your clothes on.” I look forward to
being of service to the club. Make life a ride!

I have belonged to the BMW club approximately 10 years. I joined because a co-worker
introduced me to the fine sport of Autocross. I drove a ‘91 Toyota Celica convertible back then.
After my first couple of years of autocrossing, the Chief of Registration asked if I would like to
take over the position. I did and have been fulfilling that role ever since. I currently own a ‘99
E36 M3 convertible and drive a Daytona Violet ‘95 E36 M3 in autocross.

I wanted to be more involved in the club and help in

on those additional responsibilities.

Everyone likes watching the Mini of Loveland Mini Cooper S thrash around the courses, but
there are rumors of a ‘special’ white E36 that may be blessing our asphalt presence...again.
As a way of saying thank you, the club threw a pizza party for all the employees at the
dealership. The weather was perfect and it was a great day to say ‘thanks’ to our chapter
sponsor. n

STREET SURVIVAL
START SPREADING THE WORD!
LOOKING FOR LEADERS:
BOARD ELECTIONS
BY: MIKE CRITCHLEY
The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the BMW Car Club of
America will be holding its annual Street Survival event on
Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Colorado Highway Patrol
Training Facility in Golden, Colorado.
Volunteers make the club run. Without their commitment and time, there would be
no activities. Now is your chance! Two positions are open for election this year:
President, Vice President and Treasurer. Terms are for 2 years. If you are interested in running
for one of these positions, please do the following:
1. Provide a short biography on why you want to run for office and which position
so members can find out a little bit about you.
2. Send an email to [email protected] with your intentions and your biography.
Street Survival is a national 1-day program that combines short classroom instruction with a lot
of practice with experienced instructors in the car. Young drivers will get real-time instruction
in skid recovery, emergency braking, collision avoidance, seating and steering wheel hand
position, as well as obtaining experience in distracted driving. This is not driver’s ed. We will be
asking the students to push themselves in real world exercises that simulate what they will find
on our Colorado roads. Participants need to have a learner’s permit or driver’s license. Help us
communicate this information to all families with new drivers.
DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 1, 2015.
Details about the election process will be sent at a future date. If you have any
questions, feel free to email [email protected].
We are also in need of car instructors. You do not need to be an Autocross instructor or Driving
School instructor, just an experienced, enthusiastic, licensed driver who enjoys the energy of
young people. In addition, we need help for set up, course monitoring, tear down, and other
duties. Contact Mike Critchley, Driving Events Coordinator at [email protected] to
get involved. n

WE’RE HAVING A SPRING DRIVE!
JOIN US FOR ‘DRIVE 4 CORNERS’
AUGUST 7-10, 2015
BY: GARY ODEHNAL
BY: TOM SCHULTZ
This is the event we have all been waiting for! That’s right;
it’s our Annual Spring Drive on Sunday, May 17, 2015.
Dust off your M3, M Roadster or favorite Bavarian iron and let’s get out on the kind of roads all
that expensive machinery was designed for. As promised, this one will be another tour for lots
of great roads and outstanding scenery. This year brings us back to the Northern Colorado
Roads. You should plan on spending the whole day away from home. Your return to Denver will
be before 5 p.m., weather and traffic permitting.
The tour will start out at the Colorado Visitors Center, located at 3745 E Prospect Road,
Fort Collins, 80525, where the groups will gather for a short information session and
networking. We will divide the group into four different subgroups so that we can better
manage all level of drivers.
Calling all members who love driving their BMW!! The annual Drive 4 Corners BMW meet is
taking place at the start of August in Pagosa Springs, CO. Any and all BMW owners or enthusiasts
are invited to take a trip to beautiful Southern Colorado for a great ‘driving destination’ weekend.
Club members are invited to join the 2015 annual D4C event as an enjoyable fall drive and relaxing
getaway event weekend!
Event information and driver registration is available on the
event webpage, www.drive4corners.com.
Look for additional event details in the summer MSR edition or at
http://drive4corners.com/category/drive-4-corners-event/2015-meet/.
The actual drive will begin with a trip north to Laramie following Hwy 287, along the route of the
historic Overland Stage coach; we just cover the ground a little faster. After a brief rest-stop in
Laramie, we then continue south to Walden for a special buffet feast at the famous River Rock
Café in beautiful downtown Walden. You will be impressed by their new asphalt parking lot
(where we can park our ‘special’ cars) and the rough hewn logs and rustic interior of this local
historic gathering place. After lunch, we’ll head south to Rand on I 25 and over Willow Creek
Pass. This is one of Colorado’s premier sports car routes; you really don’t want to miss this road
with long sweeping curves, beautiful high alpine meadows and spectacular mountain scenery.
Just keep your eyes on the road! It ranks as a must-drive in my logbook every year. Then we
come back down to earth in Granby where we’ll stop to share some afternoon ice cream.
I can’t decide if I’m in for the incredible drive or all of the good food! Come for both and you’ll
be impressed by all of the above and the wonderful spring scenery and open roads in Northern
Colorado. So clear the board of ‘honey do’s’ because you really don’t want to miss this drive.
In order to hold your lunch reservations at the River Rock Restaurant, please email me at
[email protected]. Expect lunch to be a soup-and-sandwich buffet with a cost of about
$12-14 per person, depending on total numbers. If you have any questions or would like to
volunteer to be the Denver Brigade Commander, call me at 970-219-9821 or email me at
[email protected]. n

It’s less than 2 weeks until we have some fun at High Plains
Raceway on May 23rd and 24th, so it’s time to ramp up my
search for volunteers!
It takes a lot of volunteers to staff the corners so that we can run a safe and fun event and
keep the cost reasonable. For those who have driven at past events, it really is a great way to
“give back” and also to round out your performance driving skills by seeing the event from the
“other” side and how others improve on track throughout the day. And for others, it is a way
to check out what happens at driving schools, and to get out and do something fun and
different while enjoying the Colorado outdoors. Bring a friend and you’ll be put on the same
corners together.

No experience is necessary to work corners. We have pre-reading material, do training at
the track prior to going out to the corners, and I’m usually able to pair newbies up with more
experienced people or with people they request. Volunteers will be in constant radio contact
with the Control person, and do not have to respond to accidents - they are rare, and we have
a safety truck and ambulance for that. Those who volunteer early get their choice of corners.
We provide lunch and complimentary dinner on Saturday night, and, for people who drive out
just to volunteer, we can help with a gas allowance.
I’d appreciate hearing from anybody who is interested in volunteering as soon as possible.
I don’t mind you changing your mind prior to the event as long as I’m told beforehand, so
please volunteer today! Just fire me an email and I’ll get you signed up. Ask friends, neighbors,
relatives, co-workers–anyone who is 18 or older.
Cheers,

Twelfth verse, same as the first.
If you’ve ever read the fine print at the bottom of our ads you’ve probably noticed that Bimmer Haus
has won a Gold Star Award from the Denver/Boulder Better Business Bureau every year since we
opened... and we just won another one – our twelfth in a row – in addition to once again being
awarded the BBB’s highest possible rating of A+!
But what is a Gold Star Award and what does winning one really mean?
It means the Denver/Boulder Better Business Bureau, of which Bimmer Haus is a member, hasn’t
received a single complaint about us since we opened our doors in 2001!
Does it mean we’ve never made a mistake? Of course not... we’re all human and everybody makes
mistakes once in a while. But what separates a reputable company from a bad one is how they correct
their mistakes.
We work very hard to be sure that you have a mistake-free experience and to earn your trust. But rest
assured that if we do screw up, we will do everything in our power to resolve issues promptly and fairly
to achieve your complete satisfaction.
But you don’t have to take our word for it... just ask the Better Business Bureau.
Rated A+ by the Denver/Boulder Better Business Bureau and winner of our 12th consecutive
Gold Star Award for having no complaints since the day we opened!

SPRING 2015 15
A COUPLE OF VISITS TO
CO’S BMW
BY: ANDREW JORDAN
“Yes. Enjoy yourself. We’ll see you soon.”
I climbed into the new black 135i. It was an automatic, but it had paddle shifters so you could
drive it in a ‘manual’ mode as well. Not really – it had no clutch. I stared down at my racing
shoes; they were all for naught. I could’ve worn my regular shoes, but then I realized that I was
alone in a new 135i and it was all because of them racing shoes.
Back in 2008, I heard that my good friend and racing buddy, Tim Roghair, had BMW’s newest
baby in the showroom at Winslow BMW – a 135i. I had read all about this car. It was ‘today’s
version of the BMW 2002’. Well, most of you know about my love affair with the ’02, so you
can imagine how excited I was at the time. Then I learned that Co’s BMW in Loveland had
one too. The only time I went to Colorado Springs was on my way to the racetrack at Pueblo.
It was not yet racing season, so I really had no plans for a trip to the Springs. But Jordan
Pressure Washers had a branch in Fort Collins, so I went north fairly frequently. On my next
trip to Fort Collins, I thought I would pop in at Co’s BMW and check out the new 135i.
I learned the workings of the gears and the feel for the car on the service road on the west
side of I-25. I did a U-turn at the Ducati / BMW motorbike dealer and zoomed back up to Co’s
BMW. It all happened so quickly that I turned around and did it again. Only this time, I waited
for traffic to clear on the service road and then floored the accelerator. I was faster than the
cars on the adjacent I-25 before the baby was out of second gear. I was flying at the end of
the service road. The 135i handled the esses at the south end beautifully. I handed the keys
back to the sales rep. The car was in perfect condition. I had not broken anything, but my
nerves were still tingling. I gave my thanks and left.
Co van Heerwaarden is also a racing buddy. He accompanied a caravan of BMW enthusiasts
to one of the early Formula One races at Indianapolis. His daughter, Christina Dawkins, was
the general manager of Co’s BMW. She knew me only as ‘Turbo’s owner’. My previous Border
Collie was named Turbo and Christina had a soft spot for him. I felt that I had a modicum of
influence at Co’s and maybe I could even drive the new 135i. I didn’t have enough money for
a new car and I had no intention whatsoever of buying a car. I questioned myself, “Is it wrong
to take a new car out for a test drive when you know with absolute certainty you are not going
to buy the car?” I felt guilty, but my desire to see and drive a new 135i overwhelmed me, so I
made plans to visit Co’s in the very near future.
I knew that I would have to wait about five years before I could afford a used 135i, but I
knew then that one day I would own one. It was truly today’s 2002. Then I learned about the
teething problems of the 2008 and 2009 models – the oil temperature was way too high. But
this was solved on the 2010 model and onwards. As it turned out, I had to wait (and save) until
October 2013 before I bought a low-mileage 2010 model. I found it through a guy that had
bought a house and needed money desperately. I practically stole the car from him. Shame
on me.
“I’d like to look at your 135i please,” I muttered softly. “I believe you have one now?”
On March 21, 2015, our great car club returned to Co’s to thank them for their generous
sponsorship of the club’s 2014 autocross and driving school events. Michael Feldpusch
organized the event and even ordered a white sauce pizza just for me. Thanks, Michael! I got
to talking with Kenton Dawkins, Christina’s husband and general manager of the dealership.
I expressed interest in seeing the new 2-door BMW M4. He offered to show me his personal
M4. On the way, we found Dave Jobusch with his new white M4. Dave later took me for a
drive in his beauty. While I was chatting with Kenton, I remembered my 2008 drive of the
135i. “Kenton,” I said, “I have a confession to make and a story to tell you.” I started to tell him
about my 135i test-drive. When I mentioned the racing shoes, his face lit up and I knew that
something was up. Kenton, being the polite gentleman that he is, did not interrupt me, but I
could see he was itching to say something.
“Certainly, I’ll be right back,” he replied.
“What?” I asked abruptly.
He came back with a key in his hand. “Great,” I thought to myself, “he might even let me drive
the car.” Then he paused. He looked me up and down. I just knew he had spotted my racing
shoes. “Damn,” I thought, “that’s blown it. I should never have changed shoes.” I could see
him assessing the situation; it was not looking good. I had, unfortunately, pushed it too far.
“I heard about this a year ago. One of my sales reps told me about a mystery guy that
arrived in racing shoes and asked for a test drive in a brand new 135i. I know all about this.
So, it was you?”
Then his face lit up and he said, “You look like you know what
you’re doing. Take her for a drive.” He tossed me the key.
“Yes, of course we are!” he said with a big smile. There were smiles all around.
I duly arrived in the dealer parking lot one weekday afternoon. I removed my regular shoes
and put on my leather racing shoes. How could I possibly heel and toe a new BMW 135i
manual drive without the correct attire? Besides, who on earth is going to even notice my
racing shoes? Yes, I was dressed in a collar and tie…and blue suede racing shoes. I told my
new dog Apex that I would not be gone too long. I left the windows partly open, locked my
535i, and headed into the dealership. I was immediately greeted by a sales representative that
I had never seen before.

“By myself?” I asked in amazement.
“Yes. It was me. Are we still friends?”
It was a BMW kind of day. n
