Die Weinzeitschrift „Weinwirtschaft“
stellte in einer Ausgaben folgende Frage:
Schaden die hohen Preise der Crus Classés der Nachfrage nach Bordeaux Wein
im Allgemeinen?
Ganz klares NEIN!!
Als Weinliebhaber schmerzen auch mich die Preise der 1er Crus und mancher Super Seconds, Pomerols
oder Emilions ebenfalls sehr. Diese Weine sind fast unerreichbare Statussymbole und Spekulationsobjekte
für WENIGE. Aber essen Sie nicht auch gerne Pfifferlinge oder Steinpilze – trotz weißer Trüffeln für
EUR 4000,-- das Kilo? Fahren Sie nicht auch Auto – trotz der Preise für Maybach und Bugatti? Lesen
Sie nicht auch am Handgelenk die Zeit ab – trotz IWC, Glashütte, etc…?
Auch Steinpilze sind ein Genuß und auch ein Maybach bringt Sie „nur“ von A nach B und der Tag hat auf
jeder Uhr 24 Stunden. Trotzdem gibt es Unterschiede. Und das ist gut so. Muss denn jeder Wein für
jeden Weinliebhaber zugänglich sein? Massenanbau für begehrte Lebensmittel ist auf Latour oder Lafite
nicht möglich. Die Mengen werden durch die immer strengere Selektion eher noch geringer. Angebot und
Nachfrage regeln hier dramatisch für uns Weinfreunde den Preis.
Aber Bordeaux generell zu teuer? Über welchen Prozentsatz an der Gesamtproduktion sprechen wir überhaupt? Im Bordelais werden auf über 100.000 ha Rebfläche knapp 6 Mio. Hektoliter Wein erzeugt. Die 5
Premier Crus erzeugen zusammen ca. 8500 Hektoliter. Das sind 0,14 Prozent der Gesamtproduktion. Und
nach wie vor bin ich der Meinung, dass man in Bordeaux für jeden Betrag einen großartigen Wein finden
kann. Bordeaux ist in Bezug auf Preis-Genuß immer noch die Nummer eins. Natürlich bieten auch wir die
Premier Crus an und haben Kunden dafür. Aber der Reiz und Spaß für uns Weinhändler liegt doch darin,
auch im Preisbereich von 10,00, 20,00 oder auch 40,00 EUR/Fl. Weine zu finden, welche es sich wirklich
zu kaufen und zu genießen lohnt. Und noch nie war Weinqualität in Bordeaux unter EUR 20,00 so großartig wie heute. Die Fülle des Angebots an tollen Schnäppchen sprengt jedes Weinlager und jeden Weinkatalog.
Am Wochenende war ich auf eine 90er Bordeauxprobe eingeladen. Es wurde nur die oberste Liga verkostet. Aber auch wenn der Gastgeber ein sehr großzügiger Weinfreund ist, wird es solche Proben mit
2009ern und was noch kommen wird, wohl kaum mehr geben. Schade? Nun ja, wenn ich sehe, wie sich
bspw. Montrose oder Leoville Las Cases platziert haben, bin ich nicht bange.
Diese teuren und begehrten Flagschiffe schaffen Begehrlichkeiten und Ehrgeiz auf Winzerseite. Viele
junge Winzer sehen, dass es sich lohnt, in Qualität zu investieren. Heute gibt es Bordeaux Superieur
zwischen 8,00 und 15,00 EUR, welche eine Qualität ins Glas bringen, wie früher nur Cru Bourgeois oder
sogar klassifizierte Gewächse. Heute kommen aus bordelaiser Appellationen tolle Weine, welche früher
nur für rustikale Einfach-Bordeaux bekannt waren – Côte de Bourg, Blaye, 1er Côtes de Bordeaux, etc.
Manche Weinliebhaber wenden sich wegen der extrem hohen Preise tatsächlich von Bordeaux ab. Aber wo
finden diese eine echte Alternative? Meist kommen sie nach einiger Zeit zurück. Es geht bei Bordeaux um
mehr als um Parkerpunkte. Wer schon einmal an einer Probe mit wirklich reifen Bordeaux teilnehmen
durfte, weiß was ich meine.
Aber viele Bordeauxfreunde, für die es auch einfach keine Alternative zu Bordeaux gibt, werden auf die
Suche nach neuen Weinen innerhalb der mehr als 100.000 ha geschickt und werden fündig. Man muss sich
halt von der Etikette lösen. Ich habe Kunden, welche über Jahre hinweg standardmäßig ihre Premier Crus
und einige andere Weine orderten. Für die meisten ist das vorbei. Neues entdecken!
Andere Kunden wiederum, welche noch nie etwas mit Bordeaux im Sinn hatten, werden neugierig auf diese
Region, in welcher Weine erzeugt werden, für die Käufer bereit sind, ein Vermögen auszugeben. Und
steckt nicht in jedem guten Bordeaux auch ein klein wenig Esprit eines 1er Crus?
Wir hatten noch nie soviel Nachfrage nach Bordeaux (jung und alt, klassifiziert oder nicht, teuer oder
preiswert) wie seit dem Erscheinen der 2009er Jahrgangs.

2009 Bordeaux
Die großen Terroirs erbrachten, gepaart mit dem richtigen Lesezeitpunkt, mehr mussten die Regisseure eigentlich gar nicht
entscheiden, annähernd perfekte oder sogar perfekte Weine hervor. Man konnte nur wenig falsch machen. Nur eben zu spät
lesen. Aber einige Châteaubesitzer konnten der Versuchung nicht widerstehen, die natürliche Perfektion noch perfekter machen zu wollen. Weine mit überreifen Aromen und zu hohem Alkoholgehalt waren das Ergebnis. Schade. Diese Weine werden nicht zu meinen besonderen Empfehlungen zählen.
Aber in der Summe ist es für mich der bisher beste Jahrgang, welchen ich en primeur je verkostet habe. Nun ja, mir fehlen
natürlich auch die Primeureindrücke von Jahrgängen wie 1982, 1961, 1949, 1945, 1929 oder 1920.
Die großartige Frische der Weine, die Dichte und Konzentration an Körper, Säure, Tanninen, etc. und die trotzdem immense
Balance und Finesse waren die Schlüsselattribute für die besten Weine.
Auf den folgenden Seiten finden Sie eine Auswahl der besten und interessantesten 2009er. Sie werden großartige Weine in
jeder Preisklasse finden. Es gibt große Namen mit noch größeren Preisen. Es gibt großartige Weine, welche auf dem Niveau
der 1er Crus liegen, aber nur einen Bruchteil derselben kosten. Billig sind aber auch diese Weine nicht. Aber relativ betrachtet
sind diese Weine eben „Preis wert“. Und es gibt großartigen Trinkgenuß für viele, viele Jahre in der Preisklasse von 10,00 bis
25,00 EUR. Erliegen Sie der Versuchung und sichern Sie sich Ihre Weine von diesem wirklich einmaligen Jahrgang.
Die Nachverkostungen des Jahrgangs nach der Abfüllung haben bestätigt, dass es sich um einen der bisher besten Jahrgänge in Bordeaux handelt. Auch ich habe einige Weine nach oben korrigiert. Bei den meisten Weinen fand ich aber meinen
ersten, großartigen Eindruck bestätigt. Parker hat auch nachverkostet und gleich kräftig nachgelegt. 19 Weine hat er mit 100
Punkten ausgestattet. Und immer wieder hört man, dass der 2009er Bordeauxjahrgang auch der teuerste Jahrgang sei und
es gibt nicht wenige Weinfreunde, welche aus „pauschalen“ Argumenten diesen Jahrgang meiden. Wie ärgerlich – für die
Weinfreunde. Und ganz falsch. Unter dem Aspekt Preis/Genuß ist der 2009er Bordeauxjahrgang einer der interessantesten Jahrgänge überhaupt. Wann gab es schon einmal so viele großartige Bordeaux im Cru Bourgeois- oder Bordeaux
Superieur-Bereich und selbst im klassifizierten Bereich für so wenig Geld. Natürlich gibt es auch die extrem teuren 1er Crus
und Superseconds. Aber bitte, die 1er Crus machen 0,14 Prozent der gesamten Produktionsmenge aus. Ist es da fair oder
vernünftig, auf einen Citran, Tour de Pez, Lilian Ladouys oder Batailley zu verzichten? Die meisten Primeurkunden von uns
haben sich aber so verhalten wie auch ich. Wir haben noch nie so viel Wein subskribiert wie beim 2009er. Glückwunsch. Vom
ersten Moment an werden diese Weinfreunde großartiges Trinkvergnügen haben und zwar über viele Jahre oder sogar Jahrzehnte hinweg.

of the longest-lived Pauillacs. Atypically for Batailley, the 2009 should be ready to drink in 5-7 years and
keep for three decades.

precision, not immensely powerful but very refined and focused, redolent of its neighbour Grand Puy Lacoste. The palate is very

date, an unfined cuvee made from 50% Cabernet, 30% Merlot and 20% Petit Verdot, created by the late proprietor Vincent Mulliez, who died suddenly last year. Sadly, this was his best effort. Notes of blackberries, black currants, licorice and a hint of toasty
oak jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, well-endowed, impressively pure and textured wine. It should drink nicely

is a final blend of 73% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon that tipped the scales at 14% natural alcohol

From a 10.23 hectare section of the 13.5-hectare Clos des Moiselles vineyard planted at 5,000
vines/ha. Average age is 23 years. The soils are a mix of clay and limestone. 100% Merlot. Net
yields in 2009 were 55 hls/ha. Deleafing on both sides of the rows. Harvest began in early October.
After a pre-fermentation, flash détente (near instantaneous heating to 80° C), the must was fermented
in stainless with a 24-day maceration. Aged on its fine, post-malo lees for four months with regular
stirring. Potentially 70,000 bottles. 13%. The owner/enologist is Venezuelan-born Oswaldo Hernandez
Robert Parker (87): “…This is a creation of the very good negociant firm in Bordeaux, Jeffrey Davies Selections. It should
elicit serious interest given its realistic pricing. A pure fruit bomb, so to speak, with a dark ruby/purple-tinged color and loads of
mocha, black cherry and black currant fruit, it is all tank-fermented, aged on its lees for four months, and bottled early to preserve
its freshness and fruit. Coming in at 13% natural alcohol in 2009, the wine makes for a mouth-filling, delicious, inexpensive introduction into something obviously very Bordeaux. “

These are two absolutely spectacular, over-achieving wines from Silvio Denz, who has managed to do the same brilliant work at
St.-Emilion’s Chateau Faugeres and his Cotes de Bordeaux-Castillon property, Cap de Faugeres. There are two cuvees from this
21-acre vineyard planted on a clay and silex-like flinty soil over a deep bed of limestone“

years.
The smallest of the St.-Emilion grand cru classes, Clos St.-Martin is only about 3+ acres sitting next to the cemetery in St.Emilion”

Domaine L’Eglise wurde erstmals 1589 im „Vieux Papiers du Libournais“
erwähnt und ist somit das älteste Château auf dem legendären Plateau von
Pomerol und einen Steinwurf von Château wie Lafleur, Petrus oder Trotanoy
entfernt. Das ursprünglich der Kirche gehörende Château war lange ein Zeit
ein Platz für Kranke, welche man gerne außerhalb von Libourne pflegte und
vor allem wusste. Und natürlich wurde auch dieses Château „säkularisiert“,
wodurch es in private Hände kam. Heute gehört es der Familie Casteja,
welcher u.a. auch solche „Rosinen wie Batailley oder Trottevielle gehören.
Übrigens auch Château Haut-Madrac (Seite 6), einen der Preis/Genuß„Stars“ der Primeurkampagne 2009 und 2008 und…überhaupt.

Pomerol that is attractive and elegant, but one suspects it could have more to it, particularly given the vintage. Certainly the terroir is one of the more highly regarded in Pomerol, sitting near L’Eglise Clinet and Clinet. Medium to full-bodied, with notes of
licorice, plum sauce and black cherries, the wine has silky tannins and very good length. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. “

Der Norden des Médocs ist ziemlich kalkhaltig,
weshalb hier neben dem Merlot auch der Malbec besonders gut gelingt. Extrem
dunkles Purpur mit violetten Reflexen. Floral-tabakiges Bouquet, Brombeerstauden, Thymian, getrockneter Schwarzer Holunder, sehr aromatisch. Im Gaumen
mit angenehmer Fülle und schwarzen Pfefferkörnern im konzentrierten Extrakt, im langen Finale Cassis und Black Currant. Beweist seine Topform und gehört auch dieses Jahr wieder zu den besten Bourgeois-Werten. 2013–2027“.

should keep for 30-40. (The 1970 is still alive and that was not nearly as well made as the 2009.)”

Weinwisser : 20/20: “…38 hl/ha. Der Grand Vin, eine Assemblage von 76 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 15 % Merlot und 9 % Cabernet Franc, reift in zu 65 % neuem Holz. Sattes
Purpur-Granat. Im Bouquet ein Wahnsinnscocktail von verschiedenen Beeren, konzentriert
und bereits gebündelt, Amarenakirschen, Cassis und Waldhimbeeren, sehr frisch, ein delikates Cabernet-Parfüm mit Noten von Trüffel, Zitronenthymian und Minze verströmend. Am
Gaumen körperreich und komplex, mit unglaublich viel Süsse in den veloursartig gegliederten
Tanninen, feine Kokosaromen, Veilchen und Cassis. Der Pressweinanteil (6,4 %) verleiht dem
Extrakt eine gewaltige Szechuanpfefferwürze und stützt den reichen Körper. Erinnert an den
1982er, dürfte aber deutlich feiner und klassischer sein.“
Robert Parker (98+): “…The 2009 Leoville Las Cases may be the most open-knit and forward Las Cases I have tasted to
date. Analytically, it is high in tannin and the alcohol is 13.8%, nearly a record at this estate. This blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc was showing brilliantly at the 2009 tasting I did in Hong Kong and at a later tasting. It boasts an inky/purple color, monumental concentration and lots of sweet, jammy black currant, black cherry and kirsch
fruit intermixed with crushed rock and mineral notes. As always, proprietor Jean-Hubert Delon has built a massive wine with
exceptional precision, unbelievable purity and aging potential of 40-50 years. I was surprised by the lusciousness of this cuvee on
several occasions, and how much more forward it is given the fact that Las Cases can often be forebodingly backward and in
need of 10-15 years of cellaring (at age 30, the 1982 is still a baby in terms of development!). The super-concentrated 2009
needs another 5-7 years before additional nuances emerge. This is a brilliant, full-throttle St.-Julien.
Neil Martin (97): „… Tasted at the chateau, the Leoville-Lascases 2009 has a complex bouquet with macerated black cherries,
black truffle, sorbet-like fresh fruits that render this quite feminine and seductive. Certainly not a standoff-ish Las-Cases. The
palate has silky smooth, velvety tannins that lulls you in at the front of the mouth and than fans out beautifully towards the almost
exotic finish. Yet there remains great delineation and poise, the finish remaining more than a minute in the mouth. Superb.”.

Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot boasts Michel Rolland as the consulting oenologist. This organically
farmed vineyard has turned out a deeply layered wine with a striking perfume of graphite, wet stones, red and black currants,
tobacco leaf and underbrush. The compelling aromatics are followed by a medium-bodied but intensely concentrated wine with
loads of ripe fruit, plenty of glycerin (14% natural alcohol) and a long, nuanced, impressively endowed finish. Accessible already,
this wine should continue to drink well for 15 or more years.
Neil Martin (92): „…The nose is very closed at the moment: dark berries, tar, a touch of liquorice coming through with aeration
and later, a hint of something estuarine. The palate is full-bodied and quite toasty in texture, the oak a little dominant at the moment but there is plenty of fruit to absorb it. Sweet and rounded on the finish with a touch of burnt toast lingering in the mouth.

Eigentlich könnte sich Denis Durantou auf den Lorbeeren seines Château L’Eglise Clinet,
Pomerol, ausruhen. Jedes Jahr Spitzenbewertungen und um die Kisten muss man kämpfen.
Aber dafür ist er zu ruhelos. Nach seinem Engagement in Lalande de Pomerol (Chenade) und
St.-Emilion (Saintayme) hat er sich nun ein Kleinod in Castillon ausgesucht und gleich sein
erster Jahrgang ist ein gigantischer Wein. Nur 2000 Kisten wird es von diesem Wein weltweit
geben.

his famous Pomerol, L-Eglise Clinet, this wine is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet
Franc. Dense purple in color, with a boatload of tannin but also impressive levels of extract and
richness, for a 2009 this wine needs some patience from its purchaser. It was more hedonistic
from barrel, but it actually seems even more seriously endowed from bottle, and I would hold off
drinking it for a year or so, as it should keep for at least a decade or more“
Neil Martin (93): „”…Do not ignore this wonderful Cotes de Castillon! It has a beautiful, vibrant bouquet with very expressive
Cabernet Franc. Wonderful delineation here with hints of crushed rose petals and vivacious red fruits. The palate is mediumbodied with very fine tannins. There is a real fleshiness here from the Merlot, but the Cabernet Franc completes the picture with
the hints of tobacco on the finish. Superb.“

Robert Parker (99+): “…The 2009 Mouton Rothschild has a striking label from Anish Kapoor. The wine is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Merlot that begs comparison
as a young wine with what the 1982 tasted like in 1985 or, I suspect, what the 1959 may have
tasted like in 1962. Representing 50% of their production, the wine has an inky purple color to
the rim and not terribly high alcohol for a 2009 (13.2%), but that is reflected by the high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a remarkable nose of lead pencil shavings, violets, creme de cassis and subtle barrique
smells. It is stunningly opulent, fat, and super-concentrated, but the luxurious fruit tends to conceal some rather formidable tannins in the finish. This is an amazing wine that will be slightly more drinkable at an earlier age than I thought from barrel, but
capable of lasting 50 or more years. Kudos to the Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and the entire Mouton team, lead by Monsieur Dalhuin

2000, but it is very close to those two efforts, and it will be fascinating to compare them (as well as
the 2008 and 2010) over the following three decades. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45%
Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc with a modest 13.5% alcohol, the 2009 reveals considerable structure and tannin along with tell-tale notes of burning embers, scorched earth, graphite, blueberries,
blackberries and toasty vanillin, and a full-bodied mouthfeel. This rich, full offering is surprisingly
backward. This cuvee should drink well in 5-6 years as one rarely has to wait a decade or more to
enjoy Pape Clement. It should age for three decades or more. This 13th century vineyard situated
in the suburbs of Pessac is owned by one of Bordeaux’s most interesting visionaries, Bernard
Magrez. He has done a remarkable job in turning around this once moribund property that made a
bevy of undrinkable wines into one of the superstars of Bordeaux. “

2010 Bordeaux- noch ein Jahrhundertjahrgang!?
Stellen Sie sich vor, Sie bzw. Sie und Ihre Frau kommen nach all den Monaten der Vorbereitung und Vorfreude im
Kreißsaal an und bringen ein Kind zur Welt. Und natürlich sind Sie überglücklich. Aber noch während Sie sich unsagbar über dieses Geschenk freuen, meint die Hebamme – da kommt noch eins!!
Nun sind es Zwillinge. Und da sich beide in ihrem Charakter unterscheiden, eben zweieiige. Aber würden Sie nicht
beide lieben???
Bei den Weinjahrgängen in Bordeaux gab es diese Twins selten, aber immer wieder. 1899/1900 (der erste der berühmten Zwillinge), 1928/1929 oder 1989/1990. Also kein Grund sich deshalb Sorgen zu machen. Das wird nun nicht
jedes Jahr so weitergehen. Nehmen wir diesen zweiten großen Jahrgang nach 2009 als Geschenk der Natur an, denn
freuen Sie sich nicht über jede Flasche 1989 und 1990, die Sie im Keller haben? Würden Sie heute sagen, es genügt, nur den 89er zu haben?
Seit einiger Zeit ist im Zusammenhang mit Bordeaux mehr über Preise als über Qualität zu lesen und zu hören. Als
Weinliebhaber schmerzen auch mich die Preise der 1er Crus und mancher Super Seconds, Pomerols oder Emilions
ebenfalls sehr. Diese Weine sind fast unerreichbare Statussymbole und Spekulationsobjekte für WENIGE. Aber essen Sie nicht auch gerne Pfifferlinge oder Steinpilze – trotz weißer Trüffeln für EUR 4000,-- das Kilo? Fahren Sie
nicht auch Auto – trotz der Preise für Maybach und Bugatti? Lesen Sie nicht auch am Handgelenk die Zeit ab – trotz
IWC, Glashütte, etc…? Auch Steinpilze sind ein Genuß und auch ein Maybach bringt Sie letztlich „nur“ von A nach B
und der Tag hat auf jeder Uhr 24 Stunden. Trotzdem gibt es Unterschiede. Und das ist gut so. Aufgrund der knappen
Verfügbarkeit kann nicht jeder Wein für jeden Weinliebhaber zugänglich und verfügbar sein? Massenanbau für begehrte Genussmittel ist auf Latour oder Lafite nicht möglich. Die Mengen werden durch die immer strengere Selektion eher noch geringer. Angebot und Nachfrage regeln hier dramatisch für uns Weinfreunde den Preis.
Aber ist Bordeaux deshalb generell zu teuer? Über welchen Prozentsatz an der Gesamtproduktion sprechen wir
überhaupt? Im Bordelais werden auf über 100.000 ha Rebfläche knapp 6 Mio. Hektoliter Wein erzeugt. Die 5 Premier
Crus erzeugen zusammen ca. 8500 Hektoliter. Das sind 0,14 Prozent der Gesamtproduktion. Und nach wie vor bin
ich der Meinung, dass man in Bordeaux für jeden Betrag einen großartigen Wein finden kann. Bordeaux ist in Bezug auf Preis-Genuß immer noch die Nummer eins für mich. Natürlich bieten auch wir die Premier Crus an und
haben Kunden dafür. Aber der Reiz und Spaß für mich als Weinhändler liegt doch darin, auch im Preisbereich von
10,-, 20,- oder auch 40,- EUR/Fl. Weine zu finden, welche es sich wirklich zu kaufen und zu genießen lohnt. Und
noch nie war Weinqualität in Bordeaux unter EUR 20,00 so großartig wie heute.
Nun zu der wohl wichtigsten Frage. Sollten Sie 2010 kaufen? Nein, müssen Sie nicht. Mussten Sie den 2009 en
primeur kaufen? Nein, mussten Sie auch nicht. Aber müssen Sie denn überhaupt Wein kaufen? Nein, auch das müssen Sie nicht!?! Lassen Sie sich von Ihrem Gefühl leiten. Weinkauf sollte nie ein MUSS, sondern immer Vorfreude
auf den künftigen Genuss sein.

This is clearly another very great vintage in Bordeaux. When I first discussed the wines in Issue 194 (5-2-11), I didn’t
think it exceeded in overall quality the Bordeaux that was produced in 2009, 2005 or perhaps even 2000, but I think
it’s safe to say that, other than 2009, this vintage has turned out slightly better than 2000 and as impressive as 2005.
The Weather
My comments on the impact of the weather in Bordeaux in 2010 from Issue 199 are restated in the following three
paragraphs. They have turned out to be remarkably accurate, considering how early they were written:
“It is no secret that the finest Bordeaux vintages are dry (often drought-like) years when there is early, consistent
flowering followed by gorgeous weather in September and October. The old saying, ‘June makes the quantity, August
makes the style and September makes the quality,’ has considerable merit, and it could be modified to include October along with September as making the quality. Much of the 2010 was harvested extremely late, some well into
the last weeks of October, as more and more producers seek full phenolic maturity.
The only problem 2010 encountered was a poor flowering with the Merlot crop, which reduced yields dramatically.
Readers will hear the French use the words coulure, which means tiny “shot” berries, and millerandange, which is
often referred to as “hens and chickens” that results from problematic weather during the flowering. Throughout
Bordeaux, in the Médoc, Graves and Pomerol, the Merlot crop was affected dramatically by these conditions in 2010.
However, the only effect was to reduce yields and ultimately, based on the weather that occurred subsequently, to
increase concentration and extract levels in the grapes. 2010 was another drought year, but unlike 2009, the summer
was more similar to 2005, with no dramatic heat waves, only extremely dry weather. Even though June turned out to
be a warmer month than in either 2009 or 2005, it was also less sunny. That changed in July, which was warmer,
sunnier and drier than both 2005 and 2009. This was followed by three months, August, September and October, that
were cooler than both 2009 and 2005, but with drought-like conditions. In short, there was less precipitation from July
through September than in 2009, 2005 and 2003. I think these statistics explain why the wines are so concentrated
and rich, yet also have higher total acid numbers and lower pHs than 2009, thus giving the 2010s a freshness and
precision that is the paradoxical characteristic of this vintage. Normally, incredible ripeness as was achieved in 2010
with alcohol levels averaging 13.8%-14.5% and higher in the Médoc and Graves to 15.5% and higher in Pomerol and
St.-Emilion are accompanied by low acidities and suspiciously high pHs. That is not the case in 2010. The pHs are
actually quite respectable, running between 3.5 and 3.8, and the total acids are normal as well. Add the extraordinary
concentration of flavor and the high polyphenol levels with tannins that are often off the charts in terms of analytical
readings, and readers can see that this is a massively concentrated vintage that will be less sumptuous and not
nearly as friendly as 2009. In short, if there is any vintage that 2010 tends to resemble, it would be 2005, which was a
great vintage of backward, dense, concentrated wines. 2010 has also turned out to be a top-flight vintage for the dry
white Bordeaux as they seem to have levels of concentration and fruit that has produced the finest white wines
Bordeaux has seen since 2007 (also a top vintage for dry whites).
I do not think it would be fair or prudent to say that 2010 exceeds in overall quality what was produced in 2009, 2005
or perhaps even 2000. However, it is unquestionably another great vintage. While Bob Dylan may have been talking
about his own country when he wrote the song With God On Our Side, it sure looks as if fate has smiled on Bordeaux
in an extraordinary way for much of the last decade with four great vintages (2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010). Moreover,
the quality of the other vintages in that decade is very good.”
Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of the tastings was that the tannins, which were slightly more rugged and
apparent before the wines were in bottle, have softened considerably. They’re not as sweet and as well-integrated as
the tannins in the 2009s, but this is a firmer, more classic vintage, and as most commentators have already indicated
and I stated several years ago, the pHs are quite normal and the acidity levels slightly fresher and higher than in
2009. I thought many of these wines would close down and show their firmer structure after bottling, but as of this
time, that hasn’t happened in any broad sense. These wines have a certain accessibility, no doubt because of the
potent alcohols and deeply concentrated, very ripe fruit“

Sicher kennen Sie noch Château Belair aus früheren Angeboten. Seit dem Jahr 2008
gehört dieses hochklassifizierte Château der Familie Christian Moueix (Petrus, La Fleur
Petrus, etc.) und wird von Edouard Moeuix geleitet. Wie ein Paukenschlag zeigte er
gleich mit seinem ersten Jahrgang, welches Potenzial in den Weinbergen von Belair
schlummerte. Und um auch nach außen hin deutlich zu machen, dass man ab sofort von
einem neuen Belair sprechen muss, hängte die Familie Moueix dem Château den Nachnamen von Anne-Adèle Monange (1887 – 1972) an, der Mutter von Jean-Pierre und der
Grossmutter von Christian Moueix.
Robert Parker (96): “…An absolutely magnificent wine from Christian Moueix and his son Edouard, this wine is right up there
with their 2009 and may eclipse it in terms of its potential longevity. Dense purple, with a near-liqueur of crushed rocks and chalk
intermixed with blueberry, black raspberry and cassis, this wine is very full-bodied for a Belair, with ethereal complexity and impressive texture and length. I believe this is the first vintage of the wine to be released in an engraved bottle, which seem s to be
the direction of all the top estates in the Jean-Pierre Moueix stable. More evidence of concerned Bordelais attempting to stop
criminals intent on producing fraudulent bottles of these limited production wines. Forget this baby for 7-8 years and then look for
it to evolve over three decades-plus. Obviously, the Moueix family has been investing considerable money and effort into this
famous vineyard, which was one of Bordeaux’s most notable underachievers for many decades. It is certainly back now, with
yields cut drastically, and the fruit harvested at a much riper stage, producing a wine that truly exploits this great terroir adjacent
to Ausone“
Wine-Spectator (Score: 94-97): „.. Shows blackberry and fig fruit, with a laser beam of iron-tinged minerality cutting through
the middle. There's lots of perfume on the finish already, with great cut, and this is rather defined now, with a very flattering
feel. Parcels are now two-thirds clay and one-third limestone due to replanting. Tasted non-blind.”
James Suckling (Score: 93-94): „..This is clearly the best wine ever from here, unless anyone remembers the
1950. Finally Belair has unleashed some exotic and suppleness in its wine. Full bodied, with soft and silky tannins

noble power and authority come through in a compelling fashion. It is full-bodied, but that’s only apparent in the aftertaste, as the

turn out to be a modern-day version of their 1955. Sadly (or maybe fortunately) for me, I’m not old enough to have tasted the
1955 in 1958 from bottle, but this wine could also be an update on the more modern 2000 which, of course, I know well and actually own. This full-bodied, colossal giant of a wine is one of the goliaths of the vintage. It may well have the highest level of
natural alcohol for any wine from the Left Bank of Bordeaux (15.1%) and has the definite potential to be a 50- to 75-year wine.
Dense purple, it offers up notes of lead pencil shavings, charcoal embers, blueberry and blackberry liqueur along with massive
concentration, a multi-dimensional mouthfeel and a monumental finish that goes well past a minute, which I think might be a
record for a young Bordeaux. Keep in mind that the 2009, which I gave three digits, came in at 14.7%, but the pH of the 2010 is
lower, giving the wine a freshness and precision that is remarkable. The final blend was 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot,
and – unlike the Chapelle de la Mission, which has 26% Cabernet Franc – there’s only 1% Cabernet Franc in the 2010 La Mission
Haut-Brion. This is a wine for those of you with youth on your side as well as patience. It will need a good decade of cellaring. An
amazing wine. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2075+.“

profound effort, but it needs to be forgotten for at least a decade. This opaque purple wine offers up notes
of caramelized black currant and black cherry candies intermixed with some very high class, subtle vanillin and toast. Hints of
licorice, mocha and perhaps even a touch of chocolate are also present in this full-bodied, super-duper, concentrated, classic
wine, which has everything in perfect proportions. But in the finish, its whoppingly big tannins kick in and basically announce that
drinking this wine now would be infanticide. Look for this wine to last for at least 50+ years. Proprietor Denis Durantou has been
on a hot streak, and is one of those perfectionist proprietors who seems tortured by their compulsion to do everything so well.
Believe me, as a wine drinker, you want people like Durantou making the wines!“

Cabernet Sauvignon in the final blend hit 90%, the balance Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and only 38% of the crop made it into the
Chateau Margaux. Paul Pontallier, the administrator, told me that this wine has even higher levels of tannin than some other
extraordinary vintages such as 2005, 2000, 1996, etc. Deep purple, pure and intense, with floral notes, tremendous opulence and
palate presence, this is a wine of considerable nobility. With loads of blueberry, black currant and violet-infused fruit and a heady
alcohol level above 13.5% (although that looks modest compared to several other first growths, particularly Chateau Latour and
Chateau Haut-Brion), its beautifully sweet texture, ripe tannin, abundant depth and profound finish all make for another nearperfect wine that should age effortlessly for 30-40 years“

director, Philippe Dhalluin, has clearly produced another 50- to 60-year wine that has a chance at perfection in about 15 years
time, when I suspect this wine will be rounding into drinking condition. It is dense, rich and full-bodied, with the classic Mouton
creme de cassis, forest floor, licorice and floral notes, but also some blueberry and hints of subtle espresso and mulberry. The
wine has more minerality and precision than the rich, extravagantly opulent 2009, and while that may please some, others will
have their patience tested as they wait and wait for this compelling Mouton Rothschild to hit full maturity“

Latour. The palate is full-bodied with saturated, ripe tannins, layers of pure blackberry and dark cherries intertwined with a touch
of blueberry. Very good grip, very smooth and flirting with the idea of ostentatiousness...but 2010 is not that kind of vintage and
the Cabernet defined the finish with graphite and a touch of, what almost feels great mineralité, much more so than the 2009.
Great length and poise, this actually reminds me of the stupendous 2006. Drink 2020-2050.“

Robert Parker (100): “…The harvest at Petrus took place between September 27 and October 12, and the 2010 finished at
14.1% natural alcohol, which is slightly lower than the 2009's 14.5%. The 2010 reminds me somewhat of the pre-1975 vintages
of Petrus, a monster-in-the-making, with loads of mulberry, coffee, licorice and black cherry notes with an overlay of enormous
amounts of glycerin and depth. Stunningly rich, full-bodied and more tannic and classic than the 2009, this is an awesome Petrus, but probably needs to be forgotten for 8-10 years. It should last at least another 50 or more.
Someone told me recently that Petrus had a second wine, so I asked Olivier Berrouet, their young, talented administrator, whether that was true, and he flatly denied it, so if any Asian wine buyers are running across second wines of Petrus in Hong Kong or
on mainland China, be warned – they are not genuine. Proprietor Jean Moueix, who I believe is in his late twenties, has taken
over for his father, Jean-Francois, who has largely retired, and the younger Moueix has really pushed quality even higher at this
renowned estate. Anyone visiting Pomerol would have undoubtedly noticed the renovations at Petrus, as it was once one of the
most modest and humble buildings in the appellation. Moreover, I suspect that multi-millionaire/billionaire collectors will have
about 50 years to debate over which vintage of Petrus turns out better, the 2009 or 2010. In a perfect world, most people would
love to have a few bottles of each, or at least the opportunity to taste them once in a while, as they have become more of a myth
than something real, but these wines do, in fact, exist!“

Wollen Sie immer nur in 3-Sternerestaurants speisen? Der Genuss dieser Küchenleistungen soll ein kulinarisches Highlight sein und
bleiben. Eine Herausforderung für die Sinne. Kein einfacher Genuss. Ein intellektueller Genuss. Man muss bewusster geniessen, um dem
Chef folgen zu können. Diese sich täglich zu leisten oder zu gönnen, geht zum einen sehr ins Geld und zum anderen findet dadurch auch
eine hedonistische Inflation statt. So verhält es sich auch mit dem Genuss der Bordeauxjahrgänge 2009 und 2010.
Die großen Weine dieser Jahrgänge sind und bleiben den großen Momenten vorbehalten. Auch die „einfacheren“ Cru Bourgeois oder
andere Weine auf diesem Preis/Genuss-Niveau wird man niemals so „einfach nur“ öffnen. Man hat den Respekt vor diesen beiden großen Jahrgängen im Kopf. Wir Weinliebhaber werden hier eine emotionale Blokade haben. So geht es uns doch auch mit 1961, 1982 oder
1990. Und gelten 2009 und 2010 nicht als noch besser?
Auch waren vielen langjährigen Bordeauxkunden die 2009er und 2010er zu anspruchsvoll, zu hochpreisig (eigentlich nur die oberen
wenigen Prozent der Weine!!!!) und teilweise auch zu alkoholisch. Somit brauchten wir Weinliebhaber einen „normaleren“ Jahrgang –
einen Klassiker. Der Bordeauxjahrgang 2011 ist somit eigentlich exakt der Jahrgang, welchen wir nach den beiden Vorgängern brauchten. Die besten Weine verfügen über viel Frucht, Frische, eine knackige Säure, kräftige Tannine und einen moderaten Alkoholgehalt. Ein absoluter Klassiker und der Jahrgang für jene Weinliebhaber, welche großen Gefallen an den 1994ern, 1996ern oder
2004ern haben. Die Weine stehen somit im Kontrast zu den fleischigen, mächtigen und süßen Vorgängern. Ich liebe die modernen,
vollmundigen, fast üppigen Bordeaux mit ihrer tiefen Farbe und der Süße am Gaumen. Weine, welche man schon jung mit großer Freude
genießen kann. Aber ich liebe vor allem auch die klassischen Bordeaux mit den pfeffrigen und floralen Untertönen, dem spürbaren
Tanningerüst und der in der Jugend manchmal etwas unnahbaren Art. Und insofern bin ich schon heute ein Fan der 2011er – vor allem
auch Dank der deutlich niedrigeren Preise, wobei die Preisnachlässe bei den „moderaten“ Chateaux natürlich geringer ausgefallen sind.
Jene kleinen Chateaux, welche maschinell arbeiten und auch ernten, konnten auf diese Weise auch 2009 und 2010 sehr gute Weine
erzeugen. Da passte alles. 2011 war dies jedoch nicht möglich. Nur Weingüter mit Handarbeit und die bereit waren, den großen Aufwand bei der Selektion vorzunehmen, konnten in 2011 einen guten oder sehr guten Wein erzeugen. Jedoch arbeiten mittlerweile sehr
viele Petits Châteaux wie die klassifizierten Güter und haben dies auch 2011 so gemacht. Die Kosten für die Handarbeit unterscheiden
sich hier aber unwesentlich von denen bei den Châteaux, welche 30,-- 50,-- oder 100,-- EUR für ihren Wein bekommen. Bei einem so
arbeitsreichen Jahrgang wie dem 2011er ist bei den kleineren Châteaux ein geringerer Abschlag deshalb absolut gerechtfertigt. Hier
spielt es nun auch wirklich keine Rolle, ob ein guter Wein 12,-- EUR oder 13,30 EUR kostet. Es ist mehr eine Frage des Weinstils. Und
hier haben Sie auf den folgenden Seiten alle Möglichkeiten.
Mit dem „rollercoaster“ zur „Insel der Glückseligkeit“
Das Frühjahr begann eigentlich als Sommer mit hohen Temperaturen und kaum Niederschlag. Viele Winzer sprechen sogar von extremer Trockenheit. Dies hatte zur Folge, dass die Blüte 2-3 Wochen (je nach Appellation) früher einsetzte. Ende Juni (26. und 27. Juni)
wurden mit knapp 40°C extrem hohe Temperaturen gemessen. Für viele Reben war die Hitze zu viel und viele Beeren erlitten einen
Sonnenbrand. Diese mussten aussortiert werden. Dann ein Juli, welcher mit niederen Temperaturen und häufigen Niederschlägen kühl
und feucht und somit ebenfalls ungewöhnlich war. Kurz vor der Lese fegte ein Hagelsturm über Bordeaux hinweg und führte zu teilweise erheblichen Schäden. Im September zeigte sich der Jahrgang wieder von einer freundlichen Seite. Durch die hohen Temperaturen im Frühjahr, Frühsommer und Herbst wird 2011 als das nach 2003 wärmste Jahr in den Statistiken geführt werden. Ferner zählt
es, trotz des feuchten August, zu den trockenen Jahren. Jacques Thienpont von Le Pin bezeichnet den Jahrgang deshalb ganz zurecht
als „rollercoaster vintage“. Und Denis Durantou von L’Eglise Clinet ergänzt: „…kräftige Tannine und eine ausgewogene Säure erinnern
an den vorangegangenen Jahrgang 2010, aber der moderate Alkohol schafft neue „Inseln der Glückseligkeit“.

Seit ich Ihnen Guillot-Clauzel vor einige Jahren vorstellte, hat sich eine treue Fangemeinde entwickelt und Jahr für Jahr benötige
ich mehr Kisten. Das Problem aber ist, dass es bei diesem Garagenweingut (400 Kisten Gesamtproduktion) nicht jedes Jahr
mehr und mehr Kisten gibt. Guillot-Clauzel ist ein ganz kleines Château (nur ca. 1,5 ha in bester Lage; 70% Merlot und 30%
Cabernet Franc) in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft zu Le Pin. Auf Guillot-Clauzel wird handwerklich traditionell gearbeitet.

René Gabriel : 18/20: „…Ungefähr 11'000 Flaschen. 35 hl/ha. Pierre Lafon machte drei Negativernten, weil die Blüte sehr
heterogen verlief. Sattes Purpur-Granat, dicht in der Mitte, lila Schimmer aussen. Intensives Brombeer- und Heidelbeerenbouquet, Lakritze im Untergrund, würzig florale Noten, erstaunlich tief. Feiner Gaumen, seidiger Stoff, viel Aromatik bringend bei sehr
angenehmer Adstringenz, klingt lange nach und so was Burgundisches das an Dugat-Py erinnert. Ein Lafon la Tuilerie, auf den
man nicht lange warten muss und somit schon bald viel Freude bereitet. Sehr viel Freude!
Pierre ist Quereinsteiger. Und wie so oft, sind diese „Freigeister“ große Visionäre. Pierre konnte sich Ende der 90er
Jahre den Weinberg La Tuilerie kaufen – eine nur 2,4 ha kleine Lage mit besonderem Terroir für Merlot, den er hier
zu 100% kultiviert. Gabriel: „…Alleine die Gewissheit, dass ein Wein aus dem Libournais ein 100-prozentiger Merlot
aus 100% neuen Barriques ist, gibt uns noch keine Garantie auf einen grossen Wein. Zumal nicht wenige Erzeuger
damit Scharlatanerie betreiben. Ein grosser Merlot benötigt vor allem dies: ein grosses Terroir! Pierre Lafon hat es!

dann braucht er wohl fast 20 Jahre bis zu seiner Reife. Ein T-Bone-Steak-
Latour, wie ich ihn schon lange nicht mehr so charaktervoll aber auch etwas hart verkostet hatte“

as backward as I expected given the general style that emerges from Anthony Barton-s beloved St.-Julien estate, this wine will
need time in the bottle once it is released in several years. An opaque purple color is followed by aromas of damp earth, underbrush, black currants, cedar and hints of vanillin and incense. Medium to full-bodied and moderately tannic with good acidity as
well as excellent delineation and purity, it should be forgotten for 4-5 years, and drunk over the following two decades“

und nur ca. 600 m von Cheval Blanc entfernt. Die 12,5 ha sind mit 80% Merlot und 20% Cabernet Franc bestockt. Nur ca. 6000 Kisten werden erzeugt. Kein Geringerer als Hubert de Boüard de Laforest von Chateau
L’Angelus ist verantwortlich für dieses neue „Kleinod“ in St.-Emilion.

pompöse, neue Toreinfahrt an der Strasse zwischen Saint Emilion und Libourne auffallen will. Trotz der
Bluffneigung kann man hier getrost 17/20 in der Genussreife erwarten“.

% Petit Verdot. Tiefes Purpur, satt in der Mitte, Granatschimmer am Rand. Intensives Fruchtbouquet. Wir kamen grad von Lafite und Latour, wo man die Pauillac-Frucht suchen musste,
hier haben wir diese eine halbe Stunde später gefunden! Viel Alpenheidelbeeren und verspielte
Cassisnuancen, dezenten Vieille-Prune-Touch dahinter zeigend, zerlassene, dunkle Pralinen.
Saftiger, eleganter Gaumen, wohltuende, aber doch präsente Tannine, royaler Körper mit
traumhafter Länge. Genau so müssen die besten Weine dieses nicht einfachen Jahrganges
sein. Da wird sich die immer grösser werdende Schar vom Pontet-Canet freuen. Ich denke
aber, vielleicht nur so lange, bis der Preis bekannt ist. Und selbst dann muss man sich beeilen. Denn in der Regel heisst es in den letzten Jahren schon in den ersten Primeur-Monaten
„sold out!". Kann noch einen Punkt zulegen

superstars of the vintage, Pontet-Canet’s 2011 exhibits an opaque purple color and a glorious bouquet of incense, subtle toast

Big, rich, round and generously endowed, it should drink well for 20-25+ years“

fine tannins and a a fresh finish. Mineral and dried flowers. Long and crisp. Lovely quality of tannins here. Racy. Lover to see a

Das Frühjahr kalt und nass, der August heiß und trocken und im Oktober Regen ohne Ende. Aber bspw. auch
2002 hatte man in Bordeaux mit großen Wetter-Problemen zu kämpfen und die Reben schafften es doch auch
damals, einen guten bis teilweise sehr guten Jahrgang daraus zu basteln.

René Gabriel : 17/20: „…Ich dégustierte ihn zwei Mal. Einmal auf
der Union des Grands Crus (aufgerundete 17/20) und einmal auf dem
Weingut (lockere 17/20). Dunkles Granat, recht satt in der Mitte, rubiner
Rand. Süsses, rotpflaumiges Bouquet, dahinter Brombeerengelée und
helle Schokonoten, wirkt schön gebunden. Im Gaumen mittelgewichtig,
zeigt Charme und reife Tannine. Eine milde Variante für frühen, recht
grossen Genuss“
Robert Parker (89-91+): “… A serious yet surprisingly precocious
and supple-textured Pauillac, the dense ruby/purple-colored, medium to
full-bodied 2012 Batailley exhibits sweet, nicely textured tannins along
with plenty of black fruit, forest floor, underbrush and cedar characteristics. Ripe, fruity and exceptionally well-made, it will benefit from several
years of cellaring, and can be drunk over the following 15 years”

body, with pretty tannins. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot”

Vollreife, tolle Nase, deunkle Beeren und Kirschen, fast schwarz, konzentriert, sehr gute Säure, lang, macht etwas satt,

„…87 % Merlot, 13 % Cabernet Franc. Sattes Purpur-Granat,
dicht in der Mitte, lila Schimmer aussen. Traumhaftes, parfümiertes Bouquet, Damassinepflaumen, Rosenpfeffer, Waldhimbeeren, sehr vielschichtig. Sublimer Gaumen, konzentriert
und trotzdem elegant bleibend, extrem nachhaltig, fast schon ein Elixier, im Finale fein pfeffrig
und dezent kernig (= einen Punkt Abzug). Trotzdem ein bemerkenswerter, fast ganz grosser
Duffau-Lagarosse. Kann also noch zulegen“
Robert Parker (93-95+): “…The 2012 exhibits a black/purple color along with a striking nose
of incense, spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries and hints of mulberries and crushed chalk.
The sumptuous aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, super-concentrated, rich, layered wine
that builds incrementally across the palate, finishing with an explosion of fruit, spice, tannin, glycerin and minerality. While neither
as backward nor impenetrable as the 2009 and 2010, the 2012 should be approachable in 4-5 years and keep for 2-3 decades.
A massive, concentrated effort from this great terroir, the 2012 Beausejour Duffau comes from a 16+-acre vineyard located on
the clay and limestone southern slopes of St.-Emilion. It was cropped at 23 hectoliters per hectare, and the final blend was 75%
Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. Only 66% of the production went into the top wine, which boasts 14.3% natural alcohol. Readers can usually count on this cuvee being one of the finest wines of the vintage given the talented team behind it, Nicolas Thienpont, Stephane Derenoncourt, David Suire and Julien Lavenu.“
Wine-Spectator (Score: 91-94): “…Quite juicy, with notes of anise, blackberry, blueberry and raspberry all wrangling
with one another, while singed wood spice and licorice snap fill out the finish. A touch chewy and briary in the end,
but there’s ample fruit in reserve”

Oliven, Arabica-Kaffee, dahinter florale Züge. Das Extrakt ist kompakt und
etwas fordernd, die Tannine prägnant, leicht kernig. Ein kräftiger Belgrave,
welcher vielleicht recht viel Geduld braucht in der Anfangsphase“.
Wine-Spectator (Score: 87-90): “…Ripe and friendly, with caressing
plum, blackberry and roasted vanilla notes. The juicy finish shows restraint”.
James Suckling (Score: 90-91): „..Very well done for the Medoc in 2012. This wine shows a pretty concentration of
ripe fruit and lots of velvety tannins. Juicy and impressive. Can’t wait to see it in bottle.”

Robert Parker (86-88): “… This blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 20% Petit Verdot displays the ripeness it
was possible to achieve in this vintage as it boasts 13.5% natural alcohol. It is medium-bodied with cedary, herbaceously-tinged
red and black currant fruit intermixed with a hint of loamy soil. Drink it over the next 4-5 years“
