Janet Munro
Massachusetts-born artist Janet Munro describes her
canvases as "pictorial-history" paintings with visual
messages for the viewer to read like pages in a book.
Her paintings focus on the lives of everyday people
in waterfront locations in the Northeastern United
States. Whether she is depicting a bustling street
scene or a quiet bayside, Munro is always striving for
realism as she carefully fashions each canvas to tell
a story of American life. In her 35 years of painting,
Janet’s works have been included in many notable
private and museum collections.

Cheryl Bartley
Cheryl Bartley, an American Folk Art painter, showed artistic talent from an early age when she produced her first works of art. Raised
by a French speaking family, she relied on a paintbrush and a box of paint to express herself to her English speaking friends.
Cheryl holds a B.A. in Psychology with a portfolio in fine art. Her early love of artistic expression resulted in a career spanning over
25 years as a graphic artist in the wallpaper and textile business.
Cheryl now expresses her imagination and creativity from her “Folk Art Spirit” studio where she creates works inspired by her fascination
with telling stories through painting. Utilizing mixtures of vibrant colors, Cheryl creates detailed scenes of simpler times from her
imagination and memories of actual places that are warm and inviting. Her preferred medium is acrylic on canvas or wood, and watercolor
on paper. Her works are found in private collections and businesses worldwide.

Diane Ulmer Pedersen
Diane Ulmer Pedersen is an American Folk
Artist. Before entering grade school, Diane took
art lessons at the Philadelphia Art Museum. It is
here that she discovered her passion for art that
would lead her to receive a B.F.A. from Denison
University. Her interest in art and history led her
to work at an antique and decorating shop, where
she began painting naïve portraits of children. As
she researched source material for these portraits,
she discovered other folk art subjects that piqued
her interest: landscapes, still lifes, theorem paintings,
stenciling and faux graining, and needlework. She
soon became fascinated with the stylizations, colors,
textures, and the crackled and aged finishes. The
feeling of peace, light-heartedness, and friendly
openness she found in these works resonated
with her.

Incorporating subjects, forms, and techniques from
18th and 19th century folk art, Diane gradually
developed a personal style to apply to not only
portraits, but landscapes and still lifes as well.
Her primary medium is acrylic painting on a variety
of substrates. Diane has exhibited at juried arts
festivals, folk art shows, galleries, designer showcases,
schools and churches, and has been selected regularly
for the Early American Life Directory of Traditional
American Crafts.

Grant Wood
Grant Wood was trained as a craftsman and designer
as well as a painter, for which he is best known. His
detailed, realistic style was strongly influenced by the
sharp detail of 15th century German and Flemish
painting, which he saw while visiting Germany in
1928. His most famous painting American Gothic is
a portrait of a hardworking Midwestern farmer and
his unmarried daughter, who has stayed on the farm
to help her widowed father. This image has become
one of the best-known icons of American art.

18th Century
Frederick Childe Hassam was a prominent and prolific American Impressionist painter, noted for his urban and coastal scenes. A native of
Boston, he often depicted his hometown in his works. Along with Mary Cassatt and John Henry Twachtman, Hassam was instrumental
in promoting Impressionism to American collectors, dealers, and museums. He produced over 3,000 paintings, watercolors, etchings, and
lithographs in his career, and was a founding member of The Ten, an influential group of American artists of the early 20th century.

Winslow Homer
Winslow Homer is regarded by many as the greatest American painter of the 19th century. Born and raised in Boston, he began his artistic
career by serving as an apprentice to a Boston lithographer, then moving to New York City to work as a freelance illustrator. In the 1870’s
women at leisure and children at play became regular subjects for the artist. In the 1880’s he spent time in England, depicting the lives of
the inhabitants of coastal towns. In 1883 he moved permanently to Prouts Neck, Maine and his dominant theme became the sea and the
endless struggle against an uncaring nature.

Jim Daly
Artist Jim Daly creates high gloss impressions of Americana showing everyday incidents that invoke a simpler way of life. His beautifully
balanced, warmly lit canvases are achieved with a time-consuming creative process and painstaking attention to detail. In his nostalgic
portrayals of children and their pets, he conveys a sentimental mood by striving to create empathy between viewer and subject. A native
of Oklahoma, Daly studied art at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. His paintings are in the permanent collections of
museums and historical societies throughout the United States.

Heide Presse
Heide E. Presse has always been interested in historical subjects, and for the last few years has been on a journey discovering the 19th century.
She loves to read journals, and recently began participating in living history events. In order to give her work historical authenticity, Heide
also sews period garments and quilts, and collects antique items to use as props. Preferring to depict the simpler, everyday moments in life,
her art gives glory to the ordinary, using rich color and dramatic light.

Peter sculthorpe
Peter Sculthorpe’s paintings capture the rural landscape and stone architecture of the Brandywine Valley in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Sculthorpe’s paintings are instantly recognizable for their beautiful stone barns, dusky skies and single figures on horseback. Using the
demanding medium of watercolor, he manipulates light and form, giving his paintings a dramatic, natural feeling. As inspiration, the artist
explores a variety of other media including etching, monotype and stone lithography, and incorporates these elements into his work.

zhen-huan lu
Zhen-Huan Lu is an American artist of Chinese
descent. He received a degree from the Department
of Stage Design, Shanghai Theatre Academy
(famous for its Western-style landscape painting
training program), and later taught painting &
design. In 1986, he relocated to the United States
after receiving an invitation to give his first solo
exhibition in New York. Zhen-Huan Lu’s disciplined
work led him to a unique American style of poetic
realism that aims to make visible the invisibles
through his skillful portrayal of familiar scenes and
objects. His training also led him to develop equal
skill in watercolor, egg tempera, and oil painting;
three disparate and difficult media to master.

Trent Foltz
James Mcloughlin
P.O.D.
As a young boy Trent Foltz loved spending time on his grandparents’ farm in rural Northwest Illinois. For hours, he played in the
barn, worked by his grandma’s side in the garden and helped his grandpa sort pigs. After college his life took a different direction.
With a photography degree in hand, he traded the quiet life of rural America for a fast-paced life in the city. As a commercial
advertising photographer in St. Louis, Trent worked with some of the largest blue-chip companies in the country. After 15 years
as a successful advertising photographer, he returned to his hometown to raise his two boys in Illinois. It was at that point he
decided to turn his camera to the great beauty of the Midwest landscape before it disappeared.

John James Audubon
P.O.D.
John James Audubon was a French American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. He is known for his expansive studies to document all
types of American birds and for his detailed illustrations that depicted the birds in their natural habitats. His major work, a color-plate book
entitled The Birds of America (1827–1839), is considered one of the finest ornithological works ever completed. This monumental work
consists of 435 hand-colored, life-size prints of 497 bird species, made from engraved copper plates of various sizes depending on the size
of the image. He often portrayed them as if caught in motion, especially feeding or hunting, basing his paintings on his extensive field
observations. Audubon made a significant contribution to the understanding of bird anatomy and behavior through his field notes. Birds
of America is still considered one of the greatest examples of book art.
