travel highlights
From the center of Milan, in just a few minutes we move away from the city following the cycling paths of the Naviglio Grande, the largest in the system of the Lombard Navigli designed
by Leonardo, the canal that carries water from Ticino to the city. This water also facilitated
transport by barge of the marble used to build the Duomo. Fifty kilometers, nearly all of it
protected, amongst picturesque views of the Naviglio Grande, stone bridges, abbeys and
woods of the Ticino. On the river’s western bank there are a few unpaved stretches and the
splendid Piazza Ducale in Vigevano. Night in a hotel in Vigevano. The next day, tiny country
roads take us to Pavia for lunch, continuing on to the Cascina Caremma in Besate. Relax in the
spa in our second night stop. On day three we return to Milan, with a visit to the Morimondo
Cistercian Abbey and stop for a coffee in the pastry shop in the center of Abbiategrasso.
Final brunch in the Navigli area of town.
