Kremmling, Colorado is a distinct mountain community, known to many as a “Sportsman’s Paradise” due to its
sundry of year-round recreational opportunities. With a populace of approximately 1,500, Kremmling has
remained a close-knit community ideal for both families and visitors.
Top-rate education through the West Grand School District, excellent healthcare supplied by the Kremmling
Memorial Hospital District, a prosperous economic sector supported by significant organizations such as the
Kremmling Area Chamber of Commerce and quality, affordable residential living options make up some of the
qualities residents have come to cherish in Kremmling. Additionally, the community’s Western heritage remains
integral, with many ranches established in the area.
Come for the abundance of recreational diversions, the stunning backdrop, the popular local events and the
overall hospitality of Kremmling residents and businesses…who knows, you may find yourself never wanting to
leave! Welcome!
Originally inhabited by the Ute and Arapahoe Indian tribes, current-day Kremmling welcomed its original
pioneers in the early 1860s. The premier business in the area was established by Jimmy Crawford, in a cave
located on the banks of the Muddy River in 1873-1874. Crawford eventually moved to the Steamboat Springs
area, allowing for Rudolph Kremmling, a Dillon native, to settle in the cave in 1874. Hailed as a retail
businessman, Kremmling opened a trading post here to serve those traveling west.
Land plats began to spring up in September of 1891, with the town name chosen as Kinsey, after John and Aaron
Kinsey. The adoption of the moniker Kremmling came soon after in 1895 in honor of Rudolph Kremmling. By
1900, Kremmling’s populace increased to 270, a number that continued to grow, due in large part to the area’s
excellent ranch land and the advent of the soon-to-come Denver Northwest Pacific Railroad, which reached
Kremmling in June of 1906. The town was officially incorporated in 1904.
Local ranchers established the Grand County Fair in October of 1912, a tradition that lives on today as the
Middle Park Fair and Rodeo — a major regional event.
Step back in time by taking a walk through Historic Kremmling, where patrons can view 65 rustic buildings
constructed between 1885 and 1913. Prominent sites on this self-guided tour include the Kremmling Club (1906),
the Red Barn (1906), Kremmling’s premier schoolhouse (1898), the Tyler House (1901), the Community Church
(1913), the Hatchery, the Gore View Hotel (1905), the Bank of Kremmling (1905), the Log Cabin Livery Stable
(1903) and St. Peter’s Catholic Church (1907).
Nestled in the beautiful Rocky Mountain scenery of central Grand County, Kremmling residents enjoy the
picturesque surroundings afforded in this northern Colorado region, removed from the hustle and bustle of city
life in nearby Boulder (77 miles) and Denver (97 miles). The town is situated at the confluence of Muddy Creek
and the Blue and Colorado Rivers and has quick accessibility to the major roadways of State Highways 40 and 9,
along with Interstate 70, which lies 38 miles south. Both visitors and residents utilize Kremmling’s full-service
airport, McElroy Air Field, which is located on the east end of town and offers a 5,500-foot x 75-foot lighted
runway. Less than 50 miles from the area, air travelers can access the Eagle County Regional Airport, providing
service to a number of major U.S. cities.
There is plenty to see and do in and around Kremmling, with popular spots for sightseeing easily found. Nearby
Fossil Ridge offers a place for geological exploration, while the Rocky Mountain National Park, a quick 45minute drive, provides extraordinarily awe-inspiring views. Beginning at the headwaters of the Colorado River
up into Kremmling is a section of the Colorado Scenic Byways, and a short 2.3-mile drive west will bring
sightseers to Skyline Drive. In addition, there are five popular sightseeing loops that start from Kremmling —
make sure to check out the Williams Fork Loop, Church’s Park Loop, Red Dirt Loop, Chimney Rock Loop and
Elk Mountain Loop.
Both residents and visitors can also take a step back in time through the area’s several historical sites. Dating
back to 1885, the Heritage Park Museum features a well-preserved two-story log homestead. Known as Fitch
Homestead, it can be found neighboring the Livery and Feed building.
Pioneer Village is another must-see, highlighting early tools, clothing and a variety of interesting artifacts
throughout its complex. Take a tour through an 1890s blacksmith shop, a preserved jail, the original county
courthouse or the numerous displays at the Grand County Museum, situated within the old Hot Sulphur Springs
School.
Standing as one of the oldest homesteads in the Fraser Valley, Cozens Ranch and Stage Stop Museum is a
popular tourist attraction in the area. Between 1874 and 1881, the structures were completed, featuring a
residence for the family, a small hotel, a stage stop, a dining room and the premier Fraser Valley Post Office.
While touring the main house, visitors can peruse through a number of photographs depicting early life in the
Fraser Valley, along with antique items.
Also make sure to visit the area for the widely popular Middle Park Fair and Rodeo, which has such attractions as
a CPRA Rodeo, Ranch Rodeo, Open Horse Show, 4-H Show, BBQ and entertainment, among other features!
Dining
Diners have a wide selection of delicious restaurants in the Kremmling area. Sit down for a pizza at the Rocky
Mountain Bar & Grill, a prime steak at the Quarter Circle Saloon, authentic Mexican cuisine at Los Amigos or a
great burger at Shake ‘N Burger. For a quick fix, Kremmling is home to Subway Sandwiches, and for those
craving a flavorful cup of coffee and a tasty pastry, check out Big Shooter Coffee, and breakfast and homestyle
meals at the Moose Café.
lodging
Finding a comfortable place to rest at the end of the day is made simple through a variety of lodging options,
ranging from quaint bed and breakfasts and vacation homes to hotels, resorts and ranches. Campers also have a
welcoming place at Alpine RV Park, Red Mountain RV Park or Wolford Campgrounds.

It is no wonder Kremmling has been dubbed a “Sportsman’s Paradise,” offering outdoor enthusiasts everything
from hiking, biking, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, hunting and camping in the warmer months to skiing,
snowmobiling, ice fishing and snowshoeing in the winter. No matter the season or the activity, Kremmling is an
ideal year-round recreational destination.
Around 200,000 acres of national forest lands encompass Kremmling, with three national forests — The Routt,
Arapaho/Roosevelt and White River — situated around the area as well. One-hundred and fifty-six miles of trails
are available for hikers, bikers and equestrians, with nine routes designated for mountain biking. Nearby
Williams Fork Valley, Gore Range, Green Mountain Reservoir and Wolford Mountain Reservoir afford
developed campgrounds for those who enjoy sleeping under the stars.
Muddy Creek and the Blue and Colorado Rivers provide great spots for fishing, canoeing, whitewater rafting,
boating and other water sports, while a multitude of nearby mountains beckon skiers and snowboarders of all
skill levels. Within one hour visitors can access Latigo Ranch (17 miles), Silver Creek (31 miles), Snow
Mountain Ranch (37 miles), Devil’s Thumb Ranch (41 miles), Keystone (46 miles), Copper Mountain (48 miles),
A-Basin (49 miles), Loveland (49 miles), Winter Park/Mary Jane (49 miles) and Steamboat Springs (53 miles).
The gorgeous mountains of Vail can be reached within 70 miles.
Kremmling’s ideal location in the beautiful scenery of the north/central Rocky Mountains is fused with its vast
recreational offerings, an exceptional public school system and a strong economic sector, making this community
perfect for virtually any lifestyle. The small-town feeling has become cherished here, bringing in many families
and a diverse array of businesses.
Residential options in Kremmling are as varied as they come, with everything from single-family homes,
properties with acreage, housing for area senior citizens and apartment complexes. Housing prices are just as
wide-ranging, assuring any homebuyer or renter the house and price of his or her choice.
West Grand School District
West Grand School District is a small, rural school system comprised of approximately 500 students in grades
Kindergarten through 12th. Nestled in a quiet valley of the Rocky Mountains, between Steamboat Springs and
Silverthorne, the schools are the heart of the community and the district is constantly searching for ways to better
serve the needs of its parents, children and community. The school district enjoys small student-teacher ratios and
has become personally invested in the academic, physical and social success of each enrolled student. A total
staff of approximately 80 and an administrative team consisting of two principals and one superintendent serve
the students of the West Grand School District. The district also has five directors, who oversee the departments
of transportation, food service, maintenance, finance and technology. In addition, 40 certified staff members are
part of the district. The student body is made up of approximately 240 students at the elementary school, 100
students at the middle school and 160 at the high school.
Although the West Grand School District is a small school district, it still offers a full range of educational
services and opportunities that are normally only offered by larger school districts. Students are provided
exemplary instructional programming on a daily basis, with a rigorous curriculum that challenges the students to
perform at an optimum level. In addition, the district also has a full range of curriculum offerings, which provides
struggling students with the necessary remedial assistance and the appropriate enrichment activities for the high
ability students. The district also offers a number of distance learning classes, advanced placement courses, a
formal gifted program, enrichment activities, specialized Friday School programming, a strong fine arts program,
exemplary technology programming and a caring staff that is dedicated to helping students succeed.
In addition to its academic offerings, the district also provides a wide range of athletic programming and
extracurricular opportunities. Extracurricular opportunities are available for each child in the school district.
Students are able to find something of interest and because of the district’s small numbers, students enjoy a high
rate of participation in the activities they choose. The athletic teams have been extremely successful in the past,
having won a number of regional and state championships in football, wrestling, track, basketball and spirit/pom
team. Students are offered an opportunity to participate in band, forensics, robotics, astronomy, drama, choral/
voice and a number of other activities as well. The district also believes that students must become active
members of the community and become productive citizens. With that said, students are required to perform and
document community service hours as part of their requirements for graduation.
The district is currently involved in a number of capital improvement projects and is extremely excited about the
passage of a bond initiative last year, which enabled the district to build a new Pre-K-8 school. This has provided
the opportunity to consolidate the older elementary and middle schools into one school, which will be more
efficient and effective to operate.
Construction began in March of 2007 on the new school, which is now complete and open for business. The
district has also placed a new roof over the entire high school structure. Within the last three years, additions
have included a new community park, a walking track, an all-weather running track, a Veteran’s Memorial Park,
a 7,000 square foot skatepark, a splash pad and an observation dome to the area’s community facility assets.
The West Grand School District operates on a four-day week with an active Friday School Program, which
provides enrichment and remediation services for students. Students attend normal school, Monday through
Thursday. On Fridays, a host of unique cultural, physical, social and enrichment opportunities for students who
are being academically successful are supplied. Also on Fridays, specialized remediation services are obtainable
to students who are struggling academically. Students have the opportunity to explore new avenues if their grades
are acceptable and are required to receive additional assistance if they are not being successful.
All the district’s schools are fully accredited, making significant academic progress over the last few years. The
West Grand School District is constantly searching for ways to improve its instructional programs and to better
serve the community served. Committed to continually working to improve the instructional program and to
better align the curriculum with state standards, the schools are dedicated to ensuring students receive the best
possible educational and extracurricular opportunities.
The school district is small enough to know each child and family individually, which in turn provides unique
educational services on a personal basis, while still providing the range of offerings of larger school districts. The
district is always excited about bringing new children and parents into the school family and would love to have
you as part of our community. Please contact Jeff Perry, Superintendent of Schools ([email protected]
or 970-724-3217) for more information and additional assistance.
Shoppers have access to just about everything within Kremmling, with antique and gift shops, sporting good
stores, convenience and grocery stores and a number of firms offering an array of services.
Peruse through The Junk Trunk for unique antique items or find the perfect gift for friends and family at The
Cornerstone Company and Flowers by Marcia. Anglers and other sports enthusiasts have access to all their needs
at the Fishin’ Hole, Master Bait and Tackle and Motion Sports, with ATV sales and snowmobiles available at
Alpine Motor Sports. And for all the amenities, Shop and Hop and Sportsman’s Quik Stop are ideal, with
Kremmling Mercantile and Schawn’s providing the area with a variety of grocery products.
Nearly 100 diverse businesses representing a number of industries serve the greater Kremmling area. Industries
such as agriculture, mining and timber, along with government, education, healthcare, tourism and recreation
round out the list of major employers in the area, with many professional services, retailers, insurance and
banking services playing significant roles as well. Additionally, with Kremmling’s central location, a variety of
distribution centers have established business here, including FedEx Ground, Confluence Energy and Forest
Energy Colorado.
The excellent education provided through the West Grand School District and surrounding institutions of higher
learning have provided for a well-educated and dedicated workforce — an appealing aspect for new businesses
and industries. Additionally, business training and resources through such organizations as the region’s Small
Business Development Administration and the Colorado Workforce Center, which provides a number of free
services to both employers and job seekers, aid in the success of the area’s economic vitality.
Established nearly 25 years ago, in 1984, the Kremmling Area Chamber of Commerce is a progressive business
organization boasting a membership of 180 local businesses, organizations and individual members. The benefits
provided to members are innumerable and beneficial. A wealth of marketing and networking opportunities are
available through various events throughout the year, in addition to educational seminars and workshops,
business services and resources and advertising. For more information on the Kremmling Area Chamber of
Commerce, visit the organization at (877) 573-4302 and online at www.kremmlingchamber.com.
Hospital leading the way for county-wide healthcare
People in Grand County are here because of their desire for a high quality of life. Beautiful views, outdoor
recreational opportunities, plentiful groups and organizations to join, great schools and an overall strong sense of
community are some components in the quality of life equation. Access to quality healthcare plays a significant
role in that equation as well. In Grand County, Kremmling Memorial Hospital has been meeting the county’s
healthcare needs since 1940.
Kremmling Memorial Hospital and one of its family practice clinics is located on the western side of Grand
County in the town of Kremmling. The hospital was founded here in the 1940s and became a hospital district in
the early 1970s. Ever since then, the community has relied on it for a growing list of services including
emergency care, skilled nursing care, acute patient care, family practices, radiology, laboratory, rehabilitation,
outpatient surgery, G.I.’s, visiting specialty physicians and more.
Kremmling Memorial Hospital is a licensed 25-bed facility and a certified Level IV Trauma Center with
physicians staffing the ER 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Kremmling Memorial Hospital also has access to
Flight for Life helicopter service to several Front Range Hospitals.
Mountain Valley Medical Center, the family practice clinic, conveniently located on the Kremmling hospital
campus, is where patients see dedicated healthcare professionals such as Dr. Lynnette Telck, Dr. Randi Wagner,
Dr. John Wisneski and Nurse Practitioner, Tami Griffith.
The hospital’s other clinic, Timberline Family Practice, is located in Granby on the East side of U.S. Highway
40, nearly one mile south of the railroad tracks in the Granby Business Center complex, Unit G & H. The team of
healthcare professionals continues Timberline Family Practice’s reputation, spanning 13 years, of compassion
and quality with Dr. Mark Paulsen, Dr. John Wisneski, Hannah Foley, Nurse Practitioner and Dianne Wettersten,
Physician Assistant.
Kremmling Memorial Hospital, Grand County’s only hospital, is expanding services, growing clinics and
increasing the staff of healthcare professionals. A new healthcare facility in Granby, to be owned by the Grand
County Rural Health Network, is scheduled to be operational in early 2010. Kremmling Memorial Hospital will
be the primary tenant of the building, providing services in conjunction with various independent healthcare
providers.
Property to build a replacement hospital on the outskirts of Kremmling was purchased in January 2006. Future
plans include the possibility of developing the existing hospital into a long-term care facility or nursing home.
The replacement hospital is expected to be built a couple of years after the opening of the Granby medical facility.
The hospital’s commitment is to prepare for current and future community healthcare needs by providing quality
and safe healthcare through high technology, healthcare access and a competent, compassionate staff.

biographies, visit: www.kremmlinghospital.org.
