Colle val d’Elsa Crystal Factory
Colle val d’Elsa is famous all over the world for the Crystal production, in fact in Italy they call it La Città del
Cristallo (The city of Crystal) because 15% of the World Crystal production, and 95% of the Italian Crystal
production comes from there. You will have the opportunity to visit a Crystal factory and discover the secrets of
the artisans’ work, escorted by a English-speaking guide that will explain and show their art step-by-step. At the
end of the visit you can also buy some pieces in the Crystal outlet of the factory. Your Villa Concierge will be glad

Alabaster Craftsmen
If the alabaster craft is to survive it is thanks to tenacious spirits of the artisans themselves! They still respectfully
maintain the highest quality standards in creating wonderful sculptures from this noble stone. Explore a
traditional alabaster workshop in the historical center of Volterra, a charming town close to Castello di Casole,
famous for its Etruscan origins. The history of alabaster winds back through the centuries and millennia,
involving the many civilizations that succeeded one another where the deposits have formed. Alabaster was used
by the Etruscans from the 4th to the 1st century B.C. to first construct cinerary urns and then for different
products over various eras. Your Villa Concierge will be happy to set an appointment for you in to see an
authentic workshop just steps away from the Etruscan Museum. It will be like stepping into the past as you will see
the same utensils on the tables, the same plaster models displayed on the shelves, posters displayed on the walls,

Just a few kilometers outside of Pienza, a quaint village famous for its olive oil and cheese production, visit a
wrought iron shop and observe craftsmen at work. You can buy or order iron pieces forged there, as well as learn
more about a trade founded centuries ago that is still practiced by skilled laborers in the countryside.
Jewelry Creation
The art of jewelry design and creation dates back many millennia with precious metals and gems still a favorite by
women the world over. You can witness the creation of jewelry from fusion to engraving, all following the ancient

Visit a Cheese Factory or Farm
Tuscany is famous for its cheeses, especially pecorino, which is one of its oldest. This famous cheese gets its name
from pecora, the Italian word for sheep. The ancient author Varro wrote about cacio Marzolino (March cheese)
in 20 BC. Pliny the Elder describes the Tuscan pecorino in Book XI of Naturalis Historia written around 70
BC. Experience the Tuscan flavors by visiting a cheese factory, where, after a tour to see its production, you can
taste an array of delicious cheeses. An alternative to a factory tour is a visit to a cheese farm, where you can enjoy

Cinta Senese Factory
“Cinta Senese” is a breed of wild pig. Distinguished by the dark color of its skin and hair, the only exception is
a pinkish strip (“cinta” meaning belt) on its shoulders and front leg. From the Middle Ages until the 1950s, it
could easily be found in the Siena Province and throughout the entire region of Chianti. Subsequently it was
substituted with different breeds yielding greater productivity and prolificness. The Cinta Senese has a dark
meat, which is particularly tasty, with well marbled fat from its nature as a wild animal. Recently, Cinta Senese
has been protected through domesticated breeding in order to preserve its genome. Don’t miss the opportunity
to visit a factory of Cinta Senese products where you can savor this remarkable flavor. The visit consists of an
explanation about the production will you observe through windows (the laboratory is inaccessible for safety and
security), followed by a tasting of the Cinta Senese lunch meats. When the weather is favorable, you can also visit

In the village of San Quirico d’Orcia, a short drive from Castello di Casole, revel in breathtaking views of Val
d’Orcia. Many movies about Tuscany have been filmed in this very region where stands a small and historic

Saffron Growing and a Cooking Lesson
The origins of saffron production reach hundreds of years into the past as chronicled by documents describing
the intensive cultivation of the saffron crocus in San Gimignano during the Middle Ages. An extremely pure
saffron is produced naturally without the use of any chemical products in all phases of its cultivation, drying and
conservation. Saffron crocuses are planted in August and are ready to be harvested in October. You will have an
opportunity to participate in the saffron harvest (which takes place just this one month a year) and hear a full
explanation about this flower and other vegetables in the Tuscan fields. When saffron is not in season, take a
cooking class on the farm utilizing the world’s most expensive spice in appetizers, entrees and dessert, according
to your preference. Ask your Villa Concierge about these cooking class programs available throughout the year.
Dinner at a Tuscan Agriturismo
While the language of the Etruscans may have all but disappeared, influences from their earthy cuisine live on in
Tuscany. A look at the Tuscan countryside reveals some of the key ingredients in its traditional cooking resources
and methods: olive groves with their silvery sheen, fairytale forests of chestnut trees, hillsides blanketed in grape
vines, angelic sheep lolling among ruins, fragrant rosemary and sage bushes lining gardens. Tuscan cooking
is simple and seasonal, without the heavy sauces found in other regions. Eschewing butter, Tuscans use olive

Natural Winemaking Course
A few kilometers far from Castello di Casole there’s a real jewel, a farm where everything is produced in the old
style, and secrets are passed from generation to generation. It is a small winery managed by a Tuscan family that
produces only natural organic wines. They will explain to you the difference between the organic wines and the
other wines, and their way of making wine, which is their philosophy of life. You will have a lesson rather than
a tour. At the end of the lesson you will taste the wine and if you want you can also have lunch or dinner in the

Enjoy one-on-one time with Duccio Nacci, the photographer that knows all of the secret places in Tuscany.
Duccio will take you to the most fascinating towns and landscapes of Tuscany. With Duccio’s first hand
knowledge, you’ll be guided to the right place at the right time where you’ll find shots affirming this area as one
of the most beautiful regions in Italy - unsealed dusty little roads, small country churches or medieval hamlets,
architecture, sometimes people, at day-break or at sunset, in special light or shadow... Duccio, being Italian will
not limit his secret sharing to photography, but also traditional food and local wine as part of the tour - lunch

The Saffron of San Gimignano and the quaint towns of
Monteriggioni and Colle Val D’Elsa

Church, which is famous for its spectacularly preserved medieval frescoes, and climb to the top of the town

Wine Tasting with a Sommelier in Your Home
At Castello di Casole, we can arrange for a personal chef and a certified sommelier to come to
your Casale and conduct a personal wine tasting event paired with delicious snacks- prepared,
and served by the chef for any occasion. Each wine tasting event will feature a 4 wines and last
approximately 3 to 4 hours. The sommelier will work together with you to select the wines.
Experience the 4 Classic Tuscan Reds - Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile
di Montepulciano and Carmignan or Vertical of Brunello di Montalcino - a tasting of the same

Tuscan Cheese and Wine Experience
You will be escorted from your residence through the scenic Crete Senesi hills to a prestigious
winery. There the owners will explain the science and art that goes into producing Brunello, one
of the most highly acclaimed wines in the world. You will get the chance to taste and compare
this year’s wines. Afterwards, you will take a relaxing walking tour in one of the picturesque
villages of the area. From there we you’ll visit a local farm and guest house to learn the
techniques of producing some of the typical cheeses of the area. This stop includes a delightful
home-cooked lunch featuring, of course, the farm’s own products. Finish the day in Pienza, a
fascinating Renaissance town. The tour lasts approx. 5 hours and it includes transportation by
a certified driver, the visit to the Brunello winery, wine tasting, the private lunch on the farm
and the tour of the cheese farm.

Guided Wine Tours
This wine tour includes transportation with an English-speaking driver. You will be picked
up at your Villa in the morning in order to arrive at the first winery by 11:30 a.m. Begin
with a stroll through the vines and grounds, then continue to the cellar to see first-hand
the transformation from grape to glass — fermentation, maturation, aging — a remarkable
synthesis of nature and nurture. The morning culminates with a tasting of the estate’s vintage
paired with a delicious lunch of favorite Tuscan specialties.
You will reach the second winery around 3:30 p.m. The second winery always differs from
the first estate in its style and methods of production. This will enable you to compare the
contrasting characteristics of the two wineries, a reflection of the strategy and personality
of the vintners. After a tour of the vines, grounds and cellars, you will enjoy a tasting of
the estate’s fine vintage together with the winemaker. Your driver will then take you back to
the Villa, arriving by late afternoon. The choice of the wineries depends on their availability
and the distance from your residence.

The medieval towns of San Gimignano and Monteriggioni are two beautiful settlements
retaining their original architectural layout, something no longer recognizable in Florence.
The views from the walls surrounding the settlements are breathtaking and San Gimignano
is famous for its towers, which were also the backdrop for Zeffirelli’s masterpiece “Tea
with Mussolini.” Monteriggioni is a smaller village enclosed in ancient walls with lovely
buildings and the air of a distant age still permeating the small winding streets.

Tour of Pisa
Pisa is famous around the world for its leaning tower, a tribute to both human ingenuity
and folly. The tower is part of the beautiful cathedral complex, whose architecture mixes
Moorish, Byzantine and Roman motifs recalling Pisa’s glorious past as a Mediterranean
seaport. Around the Campo dei Miracoli, the square of miracles, you find the Cathedral

Palio Racing
The world famous Palio horse race in Siena is an incredible event, held twice a year in the
beautiful Piazza del Campo in the town center. The first race is on July 2nd, the second on
August 16th. You can view the excitement and dram of the Palio live from a private terrace
overlooking the central Piazza del Campo, where the action takes place. You will enjoy a perfect
view of the event, including the parade and exhibitions which precede the actual race and the
boisterous victory celebrations that follow. View the festivities from a comfortable vantage point
above the huge crowds that gather in the square; enjoy drinks and refreshments and the cool
shade of a canopy. If you prefer to be in the middle of the action, your concierge can buy
tickets for you in the boxes or on the terraces of the building that surround Piazza del Campo.
Just please remember that the tickets for the boxes offer you a seat, while the ones for the
terrace are standing-only.
Normally the parade begins around 5:00 p.m. in August and around 6:00 p.m.
in July. The starting time will be confirmed a few days before the race, and remember that
if you are approaching Siena around 4:00 p.m. you might have problem reaching the town
itself and finding parking.

The parade lasts approximately 2 hours and the Palio can last only a few minutes... it
all depends on the horses and if they can stay in line.

Experience the magic of an aerial adventure where the destination is irrelevant, the journey
everything! Hot air ballooning expeditions capture the imagination, as each flight is a
unique and magical voyage. The flight starts at dawn (approx. 6:00 a.m.) and the inflation
takes about 30 minutes. Your voyage lasts about 1 hour. Afterwards, a splendid continental
breakfast awaits you upon landing. Once the trailer of the chase vehicle, which follows your
flight from the launch site, is loaded, you will be accompanied back to the launch site. The
ballooning season is approximately late spring to early autumn with annual variations.

The artist employs music and books to create a happy atmosphere and she will involve the
children in a wonderful experience. At the end of the course the artist will collect the objects
up, cook them in an appropriate oven and return them to you in a few days.
