Steps to Creating Graffiti Lettering

Follow these steps to create your own GRAFFITI!
You’ll need a plain piece of paper, pencil, eraser,
pencil crayons and a couple of dark coloured
markers.
Do all of the parts in pencil first before you use
marker.
Step 1: Print out your name or word.
Step 2: Create rectangles of each part of each
letter. Overlap parts of the letters.
Step 3: Stylize the rectangles.
Step 4: Erase the overlapping lines.
Step 5: Create your fill-ins with coloured pencil
crayons. Use mid tones. Not darks or lights but the
middle range colours. Be imaginative and use
create any designs you like.
Step 6: Outline your letters with a dark coloured
marker. Use the tip and press lightly.
Step 7: Create a shadow effect. Look at a box like
object. See how you can only the sides to the left
& bottom or only the sides to the right & top or
only the sides to the right & bottom, etc. The
shadow effect does not come off of every side.
Step 8: Outline your shadow with dark marker.
Step 9: Create a chrome effect on your shadow
with highlights and shadows. It’s a good idea to do
this in pencil first and then go over it with a dark
marker. You can fill in the highlights with a second
colour if you wish.
Step 10: Using a light coloured pencil crayons or
marker, create what is called “a Border, an Aura,
or an Outer Glow.” Trace around the outer edge
and and some designs to it.
Step 11: Sign and title your piece. That way, for
someone with an untrained eye will know what
your graffiti says.
