DIRECTORS PRIZE
In 1974, Cambridge resident Isabella Halsted proposed the idea of a traffic-free Sunday park along the Charles River and in
1975 founded the People for Riverbend Park Trust to bring her idea to reality. With the collaboration of the Metropolitan
District Commission that at the time had jurisdiction over the land and parkway, and with the cooperation of the City of
Cambridge, the Sunday park was established on a 1.5 mile stretch of Memorial Drive, from Western Avenue to the Eliot
Bridge. The Sunday park is now run by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).
With this exhibition, the Trust and the Cambridge Art Association celebrate the first forty years of this successful citizen’s effort
to reclaim the joys of being near our beloved Charles River. We invite artists to capture the special character of this historic
area that thousands from near and far are attracted to for peaceful recreation. Isabella’s own hand-drawn map (shown
above) defines the area invovled.
ENTRY FEE
$25, for Non Members up to three works.
$15 for CAA Members up to three works.
ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS
- All Artwork must be original, created in the past 5 years
and must feature or have the ambience of the Charles River
- All mediums accepted: 2D, 3D.
- Artwork that has been accepted into a CAA show
within the past 2-years will not be exhibited.
- Artwork must be gallery ready.
- All wall mounted work must be wired for hanging.
- Work must be original, no reproductions.
- No clip/sandwich frames or sawtooth hangers
- Weight requirements: total weight must not exceed 75lbs.
- Size requirements: must not exceed 48 inches on the
longest side.
- Diptychs/triptychs are considered as a single work and must
adhere to the listed requirements.
3D Work Requirement: Sculpture must be accompanied by
its own pedestal or method of presentation.
- Total weight must not exceed 75 lbs.
- Wall mounted 3D work must be wired for hanging.
Any work not adhering to these guidelines will not be exhibited.
LIABILITY
While CAA will handle all work with the utmost care,
CAA is not responsible for work that is damaged in any
way or for the loss of work by fire, theft, or any other means.
University Place Gallery is a secure environment, but all
responsibilities rest with the exhibitor.
AGREEMENT & SALES
CAA and the People for Riverbend Park Trust reserves
the right to photograph exhibited works for publicity and
educational purposes.
All exhibited work should be available for sale and will be
sold at the price indicated on sign in entry form. CAA will not
permit changes to price or title after submission. A commission
of 40% will be retained for each work sold.
