The KHS Tiger Band pounced all over Katy for
their annual band fundraiser the “Roar Tour”. They
performed at the Firethorne Welcome Center before
heading over to West Memorial Elementary. After
that, they hopped in the buses and made their way to
Brookshire Brothers and finished up in the blessed
air conditioning at Katy Mills Mall Food Court.
These talented kids played their hearts out for the
community. Over $5,500 was collected from folks
along the route and for those who paid to have the
entire band stop and play a mini-concert in front of
their home. During one such stop, there was a small
grass fire, which the multi-talented band and directors
were able to put out with bottled water they carried
with them. The Tiger Band will use the donations to
buy new equipment as well as pay for clinics and a
multitude of other band needs. Support them. Thanks

Alzheimer’s Association Walk To End
Alzheimer’s® Engages And Inspires Katy
Participants Raise Critically Needed Funds for Alzheimer’s Care,
Support and Research
The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting
Katy area residents to unite in a movement to
reclaim the future for millions by participating
in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End
Alzheimer’s. LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch,
23501 Cinco Ranch Blvd. Katy, TX 77494
will be the site of the Walk on Saturday,
September 14 at 7:30 a.m.
Walk to End Alzheimer’s is more than a
walk. It is an experience for thousands of
participants in Katy who will learn about
Alzheimer's disease and how to get involved
with this critical cause, from advocacy
opportunities, the latest in Alzheimer’s
research and clinical trial enrollment to support
programs and services. Each walker will also
join in a meaningful ceremony to honor those
affected by Alzheimer's disease.
Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic
and is now the nation’s sixth-leading cause of
death. As baby boomers age, the number of
individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease
will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond
today’s more than 5 million Americans living
with Alzheimer’s. In addition to the 5K,
participants will enjoy family-friendly
entertainment and special tributes to those
who have experienced or are experiencing
Alzheimer’s. Start or join a team today at alz.
org/walk.
“There has never been a greater need for the
citizens of Katy to join in the fight against
Alzheimer’s disease by participating in Walk
to End Alzheimer’s,” said Richard Elbein,
CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association, Houston
& Southeast Texas Chapter. “Funds raised will
provide care and support services to the
increasing number of residents in Texas living
with Alzheimer’s, while also contributing to
advancing critically-needed research.”

Ana Roman, founder of the Katy Culture and Arts
Alliance, will see the fruition of years of hard work when
the Katy Contemporary Art Museum at 805 Avenue B
opens its doors on Sunday, September 8th. It will host its
first exhibit, “All About Katy” in conjunction with the
Katy Area EDC, the Katy Chamber of Commerce and the
City of Katy. 24 local artists will display works of art
having to do with life in Katy, Texas. The museum is the
first step in creating a Museum District within the city
limits of Katy.
In addition to the museum, the KCAM School of
Photography and the KCAM School of Film will begin
classes that will be more convenient and affordable than
those in Houston. A gift shop will be housed in the museum
called, “Made in Katy.” It is reserved for local artists to
highlight the talent we have in the community.
The museum will be a permanent exhibition space for
art lovers to enjoy painting, sculpture, photography and
the occasional lecture, film or social art mixer that Roman
has gained a reputation for hosting. Roman, who has been
an art curator for over 25 years, brings her experience and
enthusiasm and passion for art to Katy. The museum will
be open Wed - Sat 10 – 6 and Sun 12 – 6. Admission is
free, but there are several levels of memberships to ensure
community ownership of the museum. Katy now has an
art museum to call its own.

CLS Technology broke ground on July 26 for a 16,780

CLS Technology broke ground on July 26 for a 16,780 squarefoot building that will serve as the company’s new headquarters.
Chris Skopik and Shenille Engelhart, husband and wife, cofounded CLS in Katy in 2006, specializing in fire alarms. The
company currently has 56 employees, according to Engelhart, and
has rapidly grown since its founding seven years ago.
John Falgout, CLS’ educational sales representative, said the
company had about 20 employees when he joined about three
years ago, so building the new facility is a response to CLS’ rapidly
growing business and the accompanying need for more employees.
CLS builds and sells a variety of low-voltage integrator systems
such as fire alarms, paging systems and intercoms for use in various
public and private buildings.
Katy Mayor Fabol Hughes said the city welcomes CLS’ decision
to expand the size of their operations in the city. “CLS Technology
has called the City of Katy home for the past seven years, and we
are certainly pleased that they have chosen to remain here with the
construction of a 16,780 square-foot warehouse and office facility.
My best wishes to them in establishing a presence and successfully
expanding their business.”
Falgout said Lance LaCour, President and CEO of the Katy
Area Economic Development Council, helped CLS expedite its
ability to meet city requirements.
“Lance LaCour of the Katy Economic Development Council was
of immense help in successfully completing all the paperwork for the
City of Katy connected with the building process,” Falgout said.
Helping new businesses search for the best place to locate or
expand is a welcome role for the Katy Area EDC, LaCour said.
“We were glad to be able to help CLS with their site selection and
provide technical assistance that helped them choose a site in the
City of Katy and the Katy Area,” he said.
Recently, the Katy Area EDC assisted Igloo Products Corp with
its expansion and new 420,000 sq. ft. distribution center at the
West Ten Business Park in the City of Katy.

Lutheran Social Services Names Steven Lancaster As
New Ceo For Krause Children’s Center
Lutheran Social Services (LSS) has named Steven
Lancaster as Chief Executive Officer for Krause
Children’s Center, a psychiatric residential treatment
center for children ages 12-17 and an affiliated program
of Lutheran Social Services of the South. The
announcement was made by President and COO of LSS
Betsy Guthrie. Lancaster brings extensive experience in
psychiatric care and administration of residential
children’s centers gained from similar centers around the
country.
“We are thrilled to have Steve join our efforts as we
work together to improve the lives of the children at
Krause,” said Guthrie. “His expertise as a licensed
clinical social worker with more than 25 years of
experience in the executive behavioral health care
industry makes him a true asset to our team. Steve is
dedicated to revamping our treatment model and overall
structure in order to provide the best care and help for
these kids.”
As CEO, Lancaster’s focus is to continue creating
clinically sophisticated residential treatment programs
for these at-risk adolescents struggling with emotional
and behavioral disorders.
“This is a place for children who have been removed
from their homes because of extreme physical, emotional
and sexual abuse,” said Lancaster. “It’s our job at Krause
to ensure they get the clinical treatment they need to cope
with and heal from their painful pasts effectively in order
to live productive and happy lives in the future.”
Lancaster received his
Bachelor of Science
degree in behavioral

“When kids come to Krause, they are at a fork in the
road and often arrive with anger, fear and a sense of
hopelessness and abandonment,” said Lancaster. “But
during those few months that we have them in our care,
we work to restore their hope and offer them another
chance in life and a better outlook on the future.”

Katy Tigers Make It 1-0 In Opener
Fox Sports Ranks
Tigers No. 22
Nationally
The question before the start
of this year’s high school
football season was whether
the Katy Tigers could repeat as
state champions. The Tigers
started the season last night in
the right direction beating the
Klein Bearkats, 41-3 at Reliant
Stadium in the Verizon High
School Football Kickoff.
The Bearkats were first on
the score board at 7:27 in the
first quarter with a 46 yard
field goal by Kyle Pfau. The
score was set up by a Katy
fumble of a Klein punt. Katy
came back on a 22 yard run by
Rodney Anderson, making the
score, 6-3 in favor of the
Tigers. Point after was

There’s no doubt that the success of the
Katy program has been well documented.
And for at least the second consecutive
year, FOX Sports NEXT/Scout.com has
the Class 5A Division II state champion
Tigers ranked in its Top 50 – Preseason
Rankings.
Katy came in at No. 22 and was one of
10 teams from the state of Texas listed.
Two were from the Greater Houston area
with Lamar being the other coming in at
No. 18. Here is the capsule written by
Director of Scouting Scott Kennedy.
22. Katy (Katy, TX)
Kennedy: Katy needs to rebuild after
losing 13 starters to graduation
after its State Championship run in
2012. Junior running back Rodney
Anderson will look to pick up the load
after Adam Taylor left for Nebraska.
The Tigers are big along the lines of
scrimmage including tight end Logan
Lister (6'5/240, Rutgers).
Last: 16-0
Other Katy prospects:
2014: LB Jake Blomstrom, DE Tim
Wilkerson, TE Sloan Spiller
2016: RB Kyle Porter
The Tigers are coming off an impressive
16-0 record, finishing the season off in
style with 35-24 win over Cedar Hill in
the Class 5A Division II state title game in
Arlington, Texas at Cowboys Stadium.
Going into the 2013 season, the Tigers
will likely be favored to repeat, though
several key players have graduated on
both sides of the ball.

all around us with schooling bass. The bass

Gibson prefers the soft plastic Storm Wild

is that I can work it on the top, just under the
top, or let it fall. It just depends on how fast I
retrieve the lure.
“The last time I was fishing Fayette,”
continues Gibson, “I was casting a Swim
Shad into the discharge channel, letting it sink
to the bottom and working it like a
worm, just dragging it real slow along the
bottom. The bass hit it like a freight train.”

summer largemouth bass schooling action
tied up. Gibson said it also happens on

helped Cinco win their season opener.
School’s In Session At Fayette County
By Tom Behrens, CoveringKaty.com
When anglers talk about school bass
action, usually they’re referring to white
bass fishing. But the top water explosions
of schooling bass isn’t limited to white
bass. It can happen with largemouth bass
about this time of the year. Fayette County
Reservoir, a power plant water cooling
reservoir, located 10 miles east of LaGrange
and just west of Fayette on Hwy. 159 can
be a blast in late summertime, if you are in
the right place at the right time.
Katy bass angler, Bill Gibson, has
experienced some of the schooling action
on Fayette.
“Shad for some reason at this time of
the year just bundle up into big schools,”
says Gibson. “The bass are trying to herd
shad to the top of the water where they can
hit them. You will see the shad on your
depth finder, like a big cloud. You find that
you are going to find bass.”
Unlike normal largemouth bass fishing,
schooling action is not related to some type
of fish holding structure. “You see a lot of
them surfacing up in the middle of Three
Fingers,” continues Gibson. “At around 5:00
p.m. on a late summer day, I have seen boats
just sitting out there in the middle waiting
for the surface to erupt with bass chasing
shad. The other place I have seen bass
working shad is down by the dam.”
Stalking or barreling in
on the action?
“Some people go barreling right into the
middle of the schooling action, but I don’t
like to disturb them that much. The fish
may come up and be there for a few
seconds, or maybe a couple of minutes,
then go back down. Then they may come
up 100 yards away. I have seen people
trying to chase schooling action around
the lake.
“Personally, what I find when the fish
are doing that is by the time I get there
they are already going down. You spend
all your time chasing them instead of
fishing.” Gibson’s recommendation is if
you specifically want to target school bass
action is to pick a school bass known
location and just sit there scanning the
lake for the telltale signs of surface water
disturbance.
When I was looking for school bass
action on Fayette, it would invariably
happen by the time I got close enough to
put a lure into the middle of the schooling
action, the feeding action quit. I found out
to cast into the area where the action had
been going on and let the lure sink. Eightyninety percent of the time the bass were
still there and would hit the falling bait.

HIV/AIDS - it has devastated third-world countries
across the globe. The hardest hit? Swaziland, Africa, with
a population of about 1 million, and AIDS rate of 38%,
and average death of a man at 34 years old. This is how
our teams began to serve the 200,000 orphans there. These
are the stories we heard from person after person. Widows
number in the hundreds of thousands. The monarchy is
financially broke, with little to no hope.
Then, there is Bulembu. It's a tiny town, formerly a mining
town from the 1950's, that is recovering. Recovering from the
HIV/AIDS pandemic; recovering from the fatherlessness of a
nation; recovering from the financial devastation of a world
forgotten. Here there are over 350 orphans being fed, clothed,
loved, educated, and prepared to become the next national
leaders. Here partners like Baylor College of Medicine and
Teen Challenge provide medicine, ARVs, to stave off the destiny Donations for the children of Bulembu generously given
of dying too young.
