Before the edition of this volume, the apparent lack of evidence on the existence of a
wind deity among the Maya was added to the mysteries surrounding this ancient
civilization. In these pages, Martha Ilia Nájera Coronado makes a comparative analysis
of the symbolic attributions of wind in the Mesoamerican cultural area to reveal the
divine face of this element in Maya religion. Very well documented and supported by
beautiful colour pictures, this book, without a doubt, is a fundamental addition to
international Maya studies.

The character of Augusto H. Álvarez represents for Mexican architecture a unique
example of professionalism, since his works stand out in the urban environment for
their simplicity and presentation. For more than five decades, he designed, built and
remodelled hundreds of works, which are manifested in the contents of his records.
In 2002 the Faculty of Architecture of the unam received the donation of this valuable

Rafael Aviña, research, texts and commentary
Several movies and documentaries have been made in University City throughout its
60-year history. They have been the result of artistic, cultural and thought movements
that have shaped and forged fundamental elements of cinematographic culture.
Through time, the role of the campus in movies has been stellar, adapting to different
moments in history in which the thought, the artistry and its expressions have changed;
however, the place has never been out of date and its transcendence has strengthened
with the passing of time.

The Script for Documentary Film
Carlos Mendoza
1st edition: México, unam, 2010

Series: Miradas en la oscuridad
isbn: 978-607-02-1817-0
Price: $11.16 usd
The documentary, and therefore the script for the documentary film, does not
propose nor foster a tailored reality, neither does it manages nor determine the tasks.
The documentary script wants to reproduce reality, presupposes it and accepts it as it
is, including the difficulties of filming, since the documentary script can not foresee,
for example, whether there will be enough light in the filming location, or if the
interviewee is linguistically articulated. This learning book is far from being a manual
or a series of complicated tips, rather it presents a taxonomic path between the
meanders of documentary films through their technical and theoretical perspectives,
as well as their ethical obligations, in a critical debate with the leading exponents of
non-fiction film, such as Faherty, Vertov, Rouch, or Rabiger. The reader will find tools
for understanding and analyzing the development of writing for non-fiction and an
open door to stimulate the construction of documentary cinema.

The inaccessibility, the cult of a few, forgetfulness and discreet homage of the
Academy have stigmatized the fate of film production in Mexico during the last
decades. In The Justness of Mexican Cinema, Jorge Ayala Blanco dissects the processes
of creation, production and dissemination of more than ninety works in Mexico,
between 2006 and 2010, to assess in its fair measure both documentary as long,
medium and short films of all genres and currents, parts of an industry that is aware of
the conflicts inherent in their identity and which has been unjustly marginalized by

The relationship between cinema and literature has always been conflicting; Bercini

The value in 1968: The School and The Students is in noticing, once again, the always
necessary reflection of profound meaning in the multiple consequences of this vast
social movement that was the cultural revolution of 1968, in Mexico and all over the
world. As the author underlines, from the beginning of the book, the cultural
revolution of 1968 can only be understood if it is analyzed and relocated in a global
perspective that is also able to recover the specific modes and concrete circumstances
that it acquires in every nation where it took place, and it also highlights those
exceptional four years, spanning from 1966 to 1969.

Beyond the nationality, social condition, age or profession, women is still today, in
more than a sense, someone subdued to patriarchal power. Marcela Lagarde analyzes
in a thorough manner this issue, obviated so many times, in five spaces that represent
social oppression: household, convent, brothel, jail and psychiatric hospital. More
than twenty years after its first edition, The Captivities of Women, still represents one
of the largest contributions to contemporary anthropology. With over five editions
completely sold-out, this book keeps its place among the fundamental bibliography
of genre studies in the Spanish language.
“The Captivities of Women is a gift that feeds sorority. An essential read
in Genre Studies, Social Sciences and Politics”.

What is the process in creating a work? How is the imagination of the artist activated?
What are its sources? Which are the roads that the artist travels and the limits they
challenge to articulate their own language? Visual artists answer these and other
questions; writers, musicians, photographers and filmmakers, revealing their creative
process and the narrative chances that are unveiled when they migrate from one
discipline to another. This volume summons the reader to begin a journey that will
drive him or her to the crossroads where the stories by the characters in here meet.

Los voladores de Papantla. Una mirada desde la etnomusicología
The Papantla Flying. A View from the Ethnomusicology
9 786070 273469
Héctor López de Llano
This book focuses on the ritual practice of the ‘flying pole’ in Totonacapan, a Mexican
region of the Veracruz coast. Through oral history and ethnography, the author has
reconstructed the process of transformation of this ritual, linked at its inception to
public-religious cycles of the Totonac indigenous society, that currently are transiting,
through a process of ‘economic capitalization’ to target the tourism industry. With this
perspective ethno-musical, an approach is offered to the influence of tourism in this
music-dance practice of oral tradition.

The image of the skirt in Western culture holds a very evident and natural position that
its deepest implications are often overlooked and, yet, its importance is such and its
history so ancient, that its first appearance may be considered as a real cultural
revolution of exhaustive range. The Role of the Skirt is a daring collective study in
which different views on the repercussions of this seductive clothing in cinema, art,
literature and everyday life are shown. In all these stages, the skirt has provoked sighs
and indignations alike, and every day it is renewed in the most unexpected ways.

Alétheia, la verdad originaria.

The Covering and Uncovering of the Being in Martin Heideggger

Length: 180 pages
Size: 8.6 x 5.51 in
isbn: 978-970-32-1499-0
Price: $7.77 usd
For Heidegger, truth is something that happens to an individual: this book is about
originary truths, which cannot be read from the present time and the habitual, because
they happen in the moments in our lives. The moments like artistic experiences, which
to Paulina Rivero are similar to the loving experience: “When we love we do not know
if we are visionary enough to see what is hidden for other people, or if it is more like
we are blind, unable to see what is evident for others”. Every originary truth discovers
something and at the same time covers something else: more truth and non-truth
always go hand in hand. The artistic experience analyzed in this book, just like loving
experience, is light and darkness.

This book is the result of over twenty years teaching at the School of Philosophy and
Literature at unam. Its main goal is to provide the ability to “understand the fundamental
ethical problems, to have solid knowledge on the way these have been stated throughout
philosophy history and to be able to apply them to everyday life”. With a solid
methodology, but far from academic thoroughness, the author exposes the basic
concepts in the discipline and the ideas by some of the most famous philosophers that
have theorized on Ethics, “from Heraclitus to contemporary bio-ethics”, including
Plato, Aristotle, Spinoza, Nietzsche, Kant and Heidegger. A reading suggestion in each
chapter and an ample bibliography are included in this volume, where the most important
“is not to collect knowledge, but learning how to think”.
Selling the Book
• The philosophers selected by the author are the backbone of western
ethics
• The text is valuable because of the simplicity of the language and the
minimum amount of footnotes. It is richly documented
• It has basic readings for each chapter and a bibliography

Globular clusters are old star systems, very dense and tracers in the galactic structure.
In this book, the globular clusters systems are shown in three fossil groups. By using
data from the Hubble space telescope during the making of this research, it was found

similar to that of the clusters’ elliptic.
