“Local Business Worldwide Students”
platform has been launched
How to make it easier for foreign students to contact the Wielkopolska entrepreneurs? Representatives of the Wielkopolska Chamber of Commerce and Industry have been working on a solution to this
problem. The effect of their actions is an online platform “Local Business Worldwide Students.”
The role of the platform is to
build relations between employers
and employees and sustain longterm, mutually beneficial business
relationship that would last even
after the students’ return to their
homelands.
- Today’s labor market is not limited to the immediate surroundings,
region or country. Increasingly, we
are looking for a better life and work.
This phenomenon also concerns
young people who choose to study in
places far from their homeland. Potential of foreign students, especially
in times of demographic decline, is
not to be underestimated - explained
Rector of the Poznan University of
Economics and Business, prof. dr.
Marian Gorynia, prof. zw. UEP.
The official partners of the
project are the Poznan University
of Economics and Business, Poznan
University of Technology and the
organization Employers of Poland in
Wielkopolska.
Poznan Festival of Science and Art
at PUEB

The Poznan Festival of Science
and Art is a recurring event that has
been organized for several years by
the academic circles of Polish state
universities. Members of the academic
community want to show that the
University is an important entity in
the social life and performs cultureforming role.
6
The program of this year’s edition
included nearly thirty various lectures
on issues from all fields of economics.

taxes, stock-market investments,
statistical issues, teamwork, public
speaking and self-presentation.
- We had classes at all levels of economic knowledge - said Joanna Stryszyk
from the PUEB Promotion Office,
coordinator of the festival events at our
University. - Our scientists and students
prepared both introductory classes and
more advanced set of activities associated
with entrepreneurship and even taxes.

Job Spot - another edition of the job fair
at PUEB
Thousands of students participated in the next edition of the Job Spot Job Fair. What was the objective of this event? Understanding the specifics of the labor market, establishing business contacts and
finding a dream job.
During this year’s edition, nearly
50 companies from Wielkopolska
presented their job offers. The event
organized by PUEB is a valuable experience for representatives of business
as it allows reaching students directly
and recruiting candidates who meet
expectations.
The organizers have also created
a CV Point where everyone could get
to know the recipe for a good CV and
8
consult their resumes with experts.
Students and graduates turned out to
be very interested in the Dress Code
Point, where they could learn the
secrets of a successful job interview.
Numerous meetings and workshops were held during the fair. Some
of the invited guests were representatives of the City of Poznan who talked
about the Poznan labor market and its
internationalization, as well as people
involved in the Poznan Academic
Business Incubator who shared their
knowledge about the formation of
start-ups.

MOVE TO MOVIE – English going to the
cinema
The Poznan University of Economics and Business and Kino Muza are organizing a special series of film screenings and meetings. The idea behind
the “Move to Movie” is to introduce
foreign cultures, making Poznan more
friendly for foreigners and expand the
cultural offer of the city by events of
cosmopolitan character.
“Move to Movie” is addressed not
only to foreigners who study, work, or
come to Poznan for vacation, but also
to Poles who want to improve ther
English. All movies in the repertoire
will be shown with subtitles in English
and in Polish. Screenings will be held
10
once a month on Thursdays at Kino
Muza within the Decently Affordable
Thursdays.
- We believe that the cycle will also
be an opportunity to meet people from
different cultures and to exchange of
cultural experiences. Part of the screenings will be preceded by presentations of
the countries in which the movies were
made - explained Iwona Cieślik, Head
of Marketing PUEB.
The cycle began on 21 April 2016
with screening of the movie “Wild Tales”
(production: Argentina, Spain). The introduction was given by students from
the South America studying at PUEB.
In May, we will see the movie Mustang (production: France, Germany,
Turkey, Qatar) and in June, “White God”
(production: Hungary).
Małgorzata Kuzdra, head of
KinoMuza, appreciates the cooperation with the international community in Poznan: - For several months,
we have been carrying out regular
screenings of Polish films with English
subtitles, increasing access to cinema
projection for foreigners living in
Poznan. Developing the project “Move
to Movie” is another step to Poznan
becoming an open city, also in terms
of culture.

Programs Education Center of Management Education.
How to create an interesting project for the organization of the conference? The answer to this question has been answered by student of Tourism Economy at PUEB, Monika Dembińska, who took part
in the competition finals of the IMEX Frankfurt International University Challenge in 2016.
The conference began with the
lecture given by Vice-Rector of Science and International Relations

INTERVIEW
INTERVIEW
What are the benefits of
internationalization of the University?
- Interview with employees from the
Research and International Relations Office
The 21st century presents new challenges for the University.
In the past, it was essential to ensure a high level of education and
the development of scientific personnel. Today, the key word in the
development of higher education
is “internationalization”. Why has
international cooperation become
so important?
Elżbieta Szwejk: Internationalization
brings many benefits essential for the
functioning of the University. It helps
to improve the quality of education,
innovation of research activities and
personnel qualifications. Internationalization also makes the educational
offer more attractive and affects the
prestige of the University, not only in
the country but also in the international market.
When did you start thinking about
international cooperation?
Elżbieta Szwejk: The need for cooperation with the scientific community
from other countries has always been
important. For a long time it was limited for reasons beyond the University’s
control. Only changing socio-political
conditions enabled Polish universities
to join the network of international
relationships and function in them as
full partners. International cooperation in its present form began only in
the late eighties and gained momentum after the entry into the European
Union.
How do you pursue and intensify
cooperation between the Poznań
28
University of Economics and Business and foreign entities?
Elżbieta Szwejk: The range of activities is really very diverse. It includes
exchange of students and staff,
implementation of joint educational
programs, scientific cooperation
and working on joint publications.
Cooperation with foreign partners is
implemented mainly through participation in international programs
and activities within a number of
inter-university agreements between
the University and foreign institutions
of higher education in and outside
Europe.
Most students associate international cooperation mainly with
exchanges realized within the
framework of Erasmus +. How is this
project implemented?
Małgorzata Plenzler-Fedorowicz:
Due to a very wide range of scholarship, Erasmus + is the leading student
exchange program in the world. It
has functioned under different names
since 1986 and it went through various changes and transformations. Our
University joined the program 17

years ago and it was offered the possibility of exchanges of students and
academic staff from other countries
participating in the program. Today,
we also implement exchange project
in which it is possible to exchange
staff and students from the universities of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Students of the Poznan University
of Economics and Business can also
benefit from the offer of universities that do not participate in
Erasmus +. How do you establish
relations with such institutions?
Aleksandra Dajerling: Experience
gained under Erasmus + allows us to
carry out our own activities, leading
to the signing of bilateral agreements
not only with European universities, but also with countries outside
Europe. Currently, we successfully
cooperate with 13 foreign institutions scattered all over the world. Our
partner universities are located in,
among others, China, South Korea,
Canada, Argentina and Mexico. We are
Results achieved in 2015/2016
• 223 students of PUEB realized
went to study abroad under
Erasmus + and inter-university agreements,
• 226 students came to study
at PUEB under the exchange
program
• 342 PUEB employees benefited from trips abroad for
the purposes of research,

currently finalizing the bilateral agreement with the Almaty Management
University of Kazakhstan.
How does the academic staff participate in the process of internationalization? Do you also develop
any programs of international
cooperation for them?
Elżbieta Szwejk: Of course! Internationalisation is not only student
exchange but also mobility of
researchers. Thanks to it is possible to
gain valuable experience from working in an international environment,
establishing scientific cooperation
with partners at other universities or
gaining knowledge of the functioning of education systems in other
countries. The knowledge and experience gained during foreign trips allow
to conduct activities in an attractive
form, opening new fields of education and innovation in the teaching
process.
Last year, the “Internationalization of Higher Education” program
entered into force. How will it affect
the functioning of the University?
Elżbieta Szwejk: The new program
presented by the government insists
on development of attractive program
offer for foreigners, adapting the skills
of university employees to the needs
of foreign students and development
of a system supporting participation
of academic staff in international
scientific programs. From our perspective, the program does not introduce
revolutionary changes, rather it was
a vindication of the path we have
chosen. The Poznan University of Economics and Business has been implementing a number of actions outlined
in this program for years. We launch
new courses in English, conduct trainings and individual consultations for
employees in the field of international
programs, and to support foreign
students of comprehensive studies in
English, PUEB established the Center
for Studies in English.
Not only employees of PUEB take
care of foreign students but also
Polish students associated n the
Erasmus Student Network. What are
their activities?
Filip Wypijewski: ESN EU Poznan has
been functioning at our University
since 2007 and it has been very active
in promoting student mobility and
supporting integration and acclimatization of foreign students in our
academic environment. The most
important project of the organization is the Mentor program, under
which foreign guests can get help in
completing the formalities connected
with the stay in our country. Erasmus
Student Network also organizes meetings and events, during which they
introduce foreign friends to the Polish
tradition, history and culture.
Are Poland and Poznan attractive
places for people from abroad?
How can we encourage them to
study at the Poznan University of
Economics and Business?
Katarzyna Jakubiak: Poland has always been attracting foreign students.
The reasons for that are growing
importance of our country in the
international economy, rich history
and tradition, strategic location on
the map of Europe and low cost of
living. Poznan gives students broad
opportunities for development and
jobs. As employees of the Research
and International Relations Office, we
need to use this potential and create
proper conditions for studying for
foreign guests. Without a wide range
of programs in English, high-quality
educational offer and the appropriate
level of administrative support we
could not be successful in the field of
internationalization.
What lessons and experiences
have been drawn from long-term
cooperation of the Poznan University of Economics and Business with
foreign entities?
Małgorzata Plenzler-Fedorowicz:
International cooperation is a continuous process of dissemination of
good practices and development.
Thanks to contacts with partners
we continually improve our actions, raise the level of service and
introduce more attractive forms
of promotion and mobility. An
examples of such activities can be
organization of Erasmus fairs or the
annual International Day event. Our
most recent project is starting a blog
on Erasmus partner universities
(erasmusuep.wordpress.com). Our
achievements in this area are highly
evaluated by the foreign partners
and often become an inspiration for
others.

Faculty/field of study/specialization: Graduate of the then Academy of

Post-graduate studies on accounting at the Faculty of Management
Place of work/position: Owner of Accounting Office IN.COME Sp. z o.o.
I chose to study at PUEB because...
I appreciate the reliability and high quality in everything I do in life. Studies at PUEB was my next choice.
I had already graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Zielona Góra and
worked in accounting. I always wanted to work on my own account and start a business. I knew that
I would gain necessary qualifications at a prestigious university. The decision to choose PUEB was obvious.
I had plans to open my own accounting office, so I needed, among others, an accounting certificate issued
by the Ministry of Finance. Studies at PUEB allowed me to get it and gave me the highest qualifications to
conduct my own business.
My best memory from the student days is...
The discovery of what perfection is and how to pursue it. Solidity, reliability and precision in action
became my new qualities. I then realized how important even the smallest elements building a greater
whole are.
Skills gained at PUEB allow me to...
Be a professional in what I do and love at the same time. Maintaining high standards of work and offering
services of the highest quality.
I have a goal, which I consistently strive for, because I believe that much in life can be achieved with hard
work.
In five years, I would like to…
Continue to develop a highly-qualified team that will work at a high level. To gather people who are
involved, for whom work will also be a passion. I would like to grow and learn new things. I have a huge
need for continuous improvement.
Outside of work, I like...
I like to start the day well, preferably with a walk with my dogs. I love nature, water, forests and quiet,
so I feel best in Mazury.

The government adopted a longterm financial plan which assumes
that GDP will increase by 0.1 percentage point every year- in 2019, it will

Grey economy in Poland is still growing. The government wants to seal

Is export outside the EU more profitable?
32
Most of our companies’ export
goes to the EU markets. In the case
of industrial products, the exported
products are mostly parts or components. Incorporated into larger devices, they go to countries outside the EU
- a profit margin goes to the seller of
the finished product, a Polish subcontractor has to settle for much lower
earnings. - Only 7% of our exports go
to countries that are now fueling global
economic growth - the Middle East,
Asia and African markets - said prof. dr

that we should focus on non-EU and
