HISTORY
In response to a British Air Ministry recuiremeiM.flie company Bauhon & Paul produced their P.S2 design in 1935. The aircraft was to replace the
turret version of the Hawker Demon which was then in service w;ih the RAF. By the rime the prototype aircraft was completed, the company aircraft division
had moved from Norwich to WoK'crhampton and been rename Boulter. Paul Aircraft Ltd. The prototype first took to the air on 11 th August 1935, later being
named Defiant. The Defiant Mk.I entered sen-ice wiih 264 Squadron of the RAF in late 3939 and saw action over the Hague and Dunkirk in May 1940. Once
the Battle of Britain had begun, 141 Squadron joined 264 to become ihe second daytime fighter unit to be equipped with the Defiant. Transterrine to he nightfighter role, the Defiant went on to equip a number of squadrons. By ihe autumn of 1941, the aircraft were being supplied with the A.I Mk.IV radar and were
designated Defiant Mk.IA. At the end of the year the Defiant squadrons achieved the highest number of kills per interception of any of the night-fighting
units. Over 700 Defiant Mk.I airframes were built with 150 of them being converted to TT.OI configuration for use by many army and navy units for gunnery
training.
Defiant NF.II -A, I Mk.TV radar sets had a range from 600 ft to 4 miles. Equipment consisted of an "arrow head" type aerial on the starboard wing and "H"-type
aeriais on the fuseiage sides. Acathode ray tube display in the pilot's cockpit with other boxes in various places within the fuselage.
Technical Specification: Span 39ft 4in (11.99m). Length 35ft 4in (30.77m). Roils Royce Merlin HI l,030hp (767.6 kW). Top Speed 250mph at sea level
(402km/h), 304mph at 17,000ft (489Km/n at 5,182m), Service ceiling was 30,350ft (9,251m). Range was 465 miles at 259mph (748 Km). Armament
Boulton Paul AMk.IID Turret with 4 x .303in Browning with 600 rounds per gun.

angeschlossen. Die Defiants Mk.I wurden dann in die Rolie von Nachljagern uberfuhrt, mil denen weitere Geschwader ausgestattet wurden. Im lierbst, 1941
wurden die Flugzeuge mit dem Radar A.I.Mk.IV ausgeriistet und ais Defiant IA bezeichnet. Bis zum Ende des Jahres 1941 haben sic dann die nSehste
Abschussquote von alien Nachtkampf-Einheiten bei Umrechnung auf dieAnzahl an Feindberiihrungen erzielt. Insgesamt wurden 700 Maschinen Dcfiani
Mk.I gebaut, von denen spater 150 zum Model! TT.III umgebaut wurden.
Defiant NF.II - Radar A.I. Mk.IV - Die Einrichtung bestand aus derAntenne in Pfeilform auf der rechten FlQgelseite und aus einer Antenne in H-Fonn auf den
Rumpfseiten. Das Radardisplay (Kathodenrohr) war in derPiiotenkabineuntergebracht.
