Area IV Retreat
Geographical Area Four held a successful
retreat on the afternoon of Sunday, January 11, 2015
at the Brewer Community Center in Greenwood, SC,
where Epsilon Psi Zeta was the host chapter. Graduate and undergraduate Sorors from Delta Mu, Epsilon
Psi Zeta, Phi Pi, and Iota Lambda Zeta chapters were
in attendance. Special guests included South Carolina
State Director, Soror Latorsha Murray and Soror Linda Murray, Southeastern Region Amicae Coordinator.
Sorors were welcomed to the retreat by Area
IV Geographical Coordinator, Soror Nikki Richard. A
moment of silence was held and a memorial table was
set up in remembrance of triumphant Soror Virginia
Suber, of the Zeta Lambda Zeta chapter, who died in
November 2014. Her loving personality and laughter
will always be remembered.
Sorors got to know each other through a BINGO icebreaker, after which they got down to the business of the day- learning and refreshing themselves in
the ways of Zeta. Soror Jakeyla Miller and Soror
Kranisha Jones presented an informative presentation
on Visual Identity and reminded Sorors to assure that
they are following these guidelines at all times when
representing Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
Sorors were lead through a mock burial ceremony by Soror Nikki Richard. It is not a question of
if Sorors will ever be involved in a burial ceremony,
but when. Sorors were encouraged to honor triumphant Sorors in an organized, dignified, and respectful manner.
Sorors were divided up into two groups for
the next exercise. One group was tasked
with teaching the group how to address audiences at
Zeta events or events where they may be representing
the sorority, such as conference opening ceremonies,
banquets, and other occasions. The second group was to
teach the group how to make and carry a motion in a
business meeting. The groups were given time to discuss
their tasks before presenting them to the entire group.
They did an outstanding job.
Area IV Zeta Doves in attendance were recognized. New members of the sorority were given an explanation of what a Zeta dove is.
Lastly, our State Director, Latorsha Murray,
provided Area IV with a report on the state of South
Carolina, as well as goals for the remainder of the year.
The Anna Robinson After School Program of Greenwood was chosen as the area’s Z-HOPE project. The
area was able to make a generous financial contribution,
as well as donate a large number of school supplies and
snacks for the tutoring program.
Sorors were encouraged to ask questions and were presented questions by the Area IV Coordinator as the
group went through different activities to be sure the
group understood the what’s, whys, and how’s of Zeta.
It was a day of food, fellowship, and fun.
Soror Richard has thoroughly enjoyed working with the
Sorors of Area IV over the past 4+ years and will miss
the Sorors of Zeta Lambda Zeta and Phi Pi as they move
into another geographical area.
Undergraduate Retreat at USC-Akien
The 2014-2015 Undergraduate Retreat was held on the campus of the University of
South Carolina Aiken, September 14, 2014. Undergraduate Sorors were trained in
topics such as; Chapter Management, How to Run for a National Position, AntiHazing, Proper Attire & Social Media, National Initiative-Elder Care, Maximizing
Z-HOPE Points, and Roundtable discussion. The retreat was very interactive and
the Undergraduates were very receptive to being able to have their voices heard. In
addition, they were able to network and brainstorm with other Undergraduate Sorors. I look forward to the
2015-2016 Undergraduate Retreat, Project Scholarship, and assisting in the implantation of the Southeastern Regional Undergraduate Council and many more projects to come!

Iota Xi Zeta’s Elderly Care Program
Iota Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority conducted an Elderly
Care program on Saturday, March
21,2105 at 11:00 at the Senior Citizens' Center in Lake City, South
Carolina. A hundred and five seniors
were in attendance, along with eight
sorors. All were privileged to participate in a special workshop titled
"Fire Safe Seniors," conducted by
local firefighter Craig Healy and a
healthy dinner was provided courtesy of Iota Xi Zeta. Healy was able to
give the seniors invaluable tips on
fire prevention in the home, which
was all pertinent information considering many older adults get hurt or
die from house fires each year.
Along with speaking on proper escape planning, he gave an interactive
and hands on presentation concerning fire safety.
For our dedicated and devoted
services to the local elderly population, our chapter was awarded
with a plaque from the city of Lake
City. This plaque was formally presented to the chapter president by
Mayor Lovith Anderson and Director of the Senior Citizen Center,
Cynthia Mallett. This plaque recognized our chapter for the many outstanding services we have provided

State of South Carolina Thanks and
Honors Immediate Past State Director
Soror Giana S. Gardner
Soror Gianna Gardner served as the South Carolina
State Director for six years. With grace and excellence she
passes the torch on to Soror Latorsha M. Murray to carry on
the tradition of 100% Z-HOPE participation and more.
Soror Gardner was instrumental in training and assisting with the implementation of the new MIP process across the
State, encouraging Sorors to raise over $21,000 for March for
Babies to beat the Alphas and to donate over $2,500 for the
National Educational Foundation for the Barbara C. Moore
scholarship . She carried on the tradition of a Statewide Founders’ Day celebration in the various geographic regions, annual
Zeta Day at the Capital and made sure that the first 150 SC
Zeta license tags were assigned.
Soror G’s accomplishments were many and her tenure was quite busy and filled with the
many retreats, workshops, conferences, luncheons and late night phone calls. Her hard work can
be seen all across the state as we have celebrated raising the highest amount of money for
March for Babies in 2012, and still the highest number of Stork’s Nests, in the region.
We wish Soror Gardner much success in her new regional position and we expect to see
her continue to blaze new trails in the name of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
