This lets the engine deliver performance tailored to the load applied, with increased power for brisk acceleration or times of high demand. • 300 horsepower and 365 lb.-ft. of torque • Available as a flexible fuel vehicle capable of operating on E85 fuel • All-aluminum cylinder heads with 3-valves-per-cylinder design (2 intake, 1 exhaust) • First 3-valve engine technology in a full-size pickup truck • Produces outstanding low-end torque, developing 85 percent of peak torque at 1500 rpm • Uses a combination of engine technologies to provide improved power and torque, particularly at lower engine speeds, that are important to applications such as towing and heavy hauling Charge Motion Control Valves are specially shaped metal flaps at the intake port that speed up the airflow and create a tumble effect in the combustion chamber for excellent low-speed combustion. 4.6L SOHC Triton® V-8 Engine 4.2L EFI V-6 Engine Specifics • 90 percent of torque available from 2000 rpm to 4500 rpm for strong towing and hauling performance • Electronic throttle control delivers seamless and consistent engine response and transmission shifts • Reduced hydrocarbon emissions due to gasket and seal design and crankcase-ventilation plumbing • Electronic fuel injection with returnless fuel design which generates less gasoline vapor and contributes to fuel efficiency • Features a splitport induction (SPI) system that helps optimize fuel efficiency and engine response • Standard only on Regular Cab 4x2 configuration F-150 Electronic Throttle Control translates accelerator motions and other inputs into control of engine power. The accelerator pedal controls the throttle by means of a computer-controlled stepping motor in lieu of a conventional linkage from pedal to throttle. It works by integrating throttle movements with the vehicle’s electronically controlled functions, such as cruise control or idle speed. It enhances control, driveability and performance. This feature is also known as “drive-by-wire.” 5.4L Flexible Fuel V-8 Engine(1) • FFV engines have special upgrades to avoid corrosion and wear: – Fuel tank has a special coating – Fuel lines are nylon 6 or stainless steel – Fuel injector is alcohol tolerant – Valves and seats are harder – Head gaskets are more robust • A sensor detects when the vehicle is refueled • After a short drive, the system determines what fuel is being used and adjusts the air/fuel mix accordingly • This results in a seamless experience for the consumer, no matter which fuel is used • Can be operated on gasoline, E85 or any mix • E85 is produced from crops and is a renewable fuel reducing our dependence on imported oil • Engine produces same horsepower and torque with E85 Powertrain Combinations Powertrain (Engine/Transmission) Horsepower (SAE net @ rpm) Torque (lb.-ft. @ rpm) 4.2L EFI V-6 Powertrain 5-Speed Manual Overdrive 4-Speed Automatic Overdrive 202 @ 4350 260 @ 3750 4.6L SOHC Triton® V-8 4-Speed Automatic Overdrive 248 @ 4750 294 @ 4000 5.4L 3V SOHC Triton V-8 4-Speed Automatic Overdrive 300 @ 5000 365 @ 3750 5.4L 3V SOHC Triton V-8 with Flexible Fuel capability 4-Speed Automatic Overdrive 300 @ 5000 365 @ 3750 NOTE: 5.4L engines are available to operate on E85 fuel with no reduction in power output. This makes the fifth year in a row that F-150 has been awarded this highest rating • The five-star rating was awarded to all F-150 cab configurations • The structure-demanding IIHS offset frontal crash test is run at 40 mph • The 2007 F-150 received a “Good” rating from the IIHS, their highest, based on the results of their offset frontal crash testing F-150 • The federal government’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), which issues the star ratings, simulates a full-width frontal impact at 35 mph Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Key Features Accident Avoidance Features Occupant Protection Features Child Safety Features All-Wheel Drive helps maintain traction in a variety of driving conditions. Personal Safety System® deploys airbags based on crash severity, safety belt usage, driver’s seat position and front passenger weight classification. LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) helps provide secure and correct installation of child safety seats. Passenger Airbag Deactivation Warning Light alerts driver when the front passenger airbag is turned off. Rear-door child safety locks on SuperCrew models prevent rear-seat occupants from opening the door from the inside. Traction Assist helps provide control by limiting wheel spin to maximize available traction. Four-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) prevents wheel lock during excessive braking to help maintain steering control. Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) actively manages brake force to the rear wheels to ensure maximum braking under heavy vehicle load conditions. Belt-Minder® System chimes and flashes the safety belt warning light if passengers are unbelted and the vehicle reaches 3 mph. Door beams help prevent intrusion in a side-impact collision. Personal Security Features SecuriLock® Passive Anti-theft System requires a key specially coded with billions of possible codes to start the vehicle. Ford 24-hour Roadside Assistance Program provides roadside service for items such as running out of gas, flat tires, jump starts, etc., during the vehicle’s warranty period. The Personal Safety System features a number of sensors in the vehicle that all work to provide outstanding driver and front passenger protection in certain frontal collisions. Personal Safety System Restraint Control Module (RCM) Front Outboard Safety Belt Usage Sensors • A sophisticated computer located under the instrument panel at the front edge of the passenger compartment • At higher speeds, airbags need to deploy with greater pressure if front-seat occupants haven’t buckled their safety belts • Receives signals from the front satellite crash severity sensors and judges how fast the vehicle is decelerating • At lower speeds with safety belts buckled, airbags can deploy with less pressure, helping to reduce the risk of airbag-related injuries • Processes signals from the other Personal Safety System sensors Front Outboard Safety Belt Pretensioners • Determines how the dual-stage front airbags and safety belt pretensioners will deploy Electronic Front Crash Severity Sensor • Provides the Restraint Control Module (RCM) with an early indication of the severity of the impact • Allows the RCM to calculate crash severity quickly so that it can determine the appropriate pressure to inflate the airbags, and also whether to activate the safety belt pretensioners Dual-stage Driver and Right Front Passenger Airbags • Provide the capability of deploying in the full-powered mode, or with less pressure in the Stage 1 mode • In less severe frontal crashes, airbags inflate with less force — or not at all — helping to reduce the risk of injury due to the inflation of the airbag • Helps to make sure the appropriate level of airbag pressure is used • Monitor whether the driver and right front passenger are buckled up • Cause the front safety belts to tighten, holding them firmly against the occupants, before the airbags inflate • Help reduce the force of the belts on the occupants and help to effectively restrain the occupants Front Outboard Safety Belt Energy Management Retractors • Gradually allow the safety belt to loosen if necessary • Reduce the force of the belts on the occupants’ chests and allow them to move forward very slightly into the airbags Front Passenger Sensing System (FPSS) • Can automatically turn off the front passenger airbag • If the passenger’s seat sensor detects no weight on the seat, the passenger airbag is automatically switched off • If more weight is on the seat, the airbag remains turned off and a light on the instrument panel alerts the driver with the message, “Passenger airbag off” • If an adult is seated properly in the passenger’s seat, the airbag is automatically switched on, ready to inflate within milliseconds if necessary • Even with this technology, parents are STRONGLY encouraged to always properly restrain children in the rear seat Driver’s-seat Position Sensor • Tells the Restraint Control Module (RCM) where the driver’s seat is in relation to the steering wheel • If the sensor determines that the seat is close to the steering wheel: – Stage 1 (lower pressure) will be activated – Stage 2 is deactivated at this time 28 08_F-150_3.indd 28 July 2007 9/7/07 9:26:39 AM 2008 F-150 Safety/Security Child Safety SAFETY/SECURITY This page is about: Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) Body Structure SecuriLock® Passive Anti-theft Ignition System Ford 24-Hour Roadside Assistance Autolock Battery Saver Feature Personal Security Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) F-150 has two sets of LATCH fixtures and top tether anchors at the outboard seating positions of the rear seat of SuperCab and SuperCrew models, and a top tether anchor at the center rear seat. Regular Cab models have child seat tether anchors on both front passenger seats. Body Structure F-150 • Ahead of the strong hydroformed front frame rails are stamped steel front “horns” to help manage crash forces. These areas are designed to collapse in accordion fashion, helping to dissipate crash energy before it reaches the passenger compartment • A torque box just ahead of the front doors helps to guard against deformation of the footwell and helps direct crash forces along the high-strength rocker panel, helping to prevent intrusion into the passenger compartment • Side door intrusion beams provide added structural stability to help protect occupants in the event of certain SecuriLock® Passive Anti-theft Ignition System • Uses a specially coded ignition key (with billions of possible codes) to start the vehicle • Designed to help prevent the engine from being started unless a coded key programmed to the vehicle is used Ford 24-Hour Roadside Assistance • Toll-free number (1-800-241-FORD) operational 24 hours, 7 days a week • Customers can request services to change a flat tire, jumpstart a battery, deliver fuel or tow the vehicle • Available during limited warranty period only Additional Features Feature Benefit Autolock Autolock is available on all automatic transmission models with power locking. This feature locks all the doors when all the doors are closed, the ignition is in the On position and the brake is released and the vehicle attains a speed greater than 5 mph Battery Saver Feature Automatically turns off interior lights 30 minutes after the last door is closed and the ignition key remains off, to help prevent battery drain Remote Keyless Entry System Includes two handheld key fob transmitters that lock and unlock doors from up to 33 feet away July 2007 08_F-150_3.indd 29 29 9/7/07 9:26:41 AM 2008 F-150 SAFETY/SECURITY This page is about: Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Safety/Security Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) • Now standard, TPMS uses a tire pressure sensor mounted to a metal band located in the wheel’s drop well • Sensors use radio frequency transmitters to send tire pressure information to the vehicle’s onboard computer • The computer illuminates a warning light and sounds an audible tone when tire pressure is significantly low • System is completely hidden from sight and uses a standard rubber valve stem • Can be used on steel or aluminum wheels • Replacing the tire can be easily done without removing the sensor F-150 • TPMS provides a more accurate tire pressure reading because it measures actual tire pressure, as opposed to wheel speed with the Low Tire Warning System • Senses temperature-based pressure loss where all four wheels are affected • Resetting the system is easy. Once tire pressure has been restored to its recommended level, TPMS-equipped vehicles simply need to be driven over 20 mph for at least 2 minutes to be reset ENGINEERING INSIGHT: TPMS Warning Light Low Tire Warning Light Solid Warning Light ENGINEERING INSIGHT: TPMS WARNING LIGHT Customer Action Required Check tire pressure to ensure proper inflation. Ford recommends a digital or dial-type tire pressure gauge for increased accuracy. • After inflating cold tires to manufacturer’s recommended pressure as shown on the tire label, the vehicle must be driven for at least 2 minutes at over 20 mph to turn the light off and reset the system • If the light remains on even after these steps have been taken, have the system inspected by the dealership Service Department NOTE: If the outside overnight temperature is significantly lower than the daytime temperature, tire pressure may decrease 1 psi for every 10 degrees F in temperature change. This may cause the TPMS warning to illuminate. If all tires appear to be inflated, customers should manually check the pressure and inflate all the tires to the recommended cold pressure. Flashing Warning Light 30 08_F-150_3.indd 30 • Driving on the spare tire may activate the TPMS warning light, causing it to flash for 75 seconds followed by a solid light. Repair the damaged road wheel and remount it on the vehicle. Reset the TPMS by driving at over 20 mph for at least 2 minutes • If the tires are inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure and the spare tire is not in use, have the system inspected by the Service Department • See the vehicle Owner‘s Guide for more information July 2007 9/7/07 9:26:42 AM 2008 F-150 AUDIO/NAVIGATION/ENTERTAINMENT Audio/Navigation/Entertainment All F-150 Audio Systems Include • Station memory presets — 12 FM, 6 AM • Digital clock AM/FM Stereo CLK AUDIO AM FM AM/FM Stereo AM/FM Stereo/Single-disc CD/MP3 Capable Player Auxiliary Audio Input Jack • RDS (Radio Data System) function when selected, allows the following: – – – – – Only for FM radio stations supporting RDS capability Radio station call letters appear on radio display Type of music format appears on radio display Search for type of music format Traffic information broadcasts • Compression allows the audio dynamic range to be compressed so quieter music is boosted and louder music is lowered to compensate for ambient noise level when enabled during CD mode F-150 VOL - PUSH This page is about: • Repeat will play the selected track continuously until Repeat is deactivated when enabled during CD mode SEEK • Shuffle plays CD/MP3 tracks in random order 1 • • • • • 2 3 4 6 5 80 watts of power 4 premium speakers Bass/treble control Balance and fade control Seek/Scan features • Folder button allows access to the MP3 folder • Dual play capability • Premium Plus Equalized Radio (optimized sound quality for the vehicle line) • Auxiliary audio input jack Auxiliary Audio Input Jack • Standard with all CD/MP3 capable audio systems AM/FM Stereo/Single-disc CD/MP3 Capable Player • Located on top of dash above the audio system MUTE CD MENU AM FM AUX • Vehicle audio system will not control the functions of the MP3 player VOL - PUSH SEEK SCAN SEEK REW FF REPEAT COMPRESS SHUFFLE 1 2 3 4 5 6 In addition to the AM/FM stereo, includes: • MP3 capability • SIRIUS Satellite Radio capability • Auto presets • Speed Compensated Volume (SCV) compensates for changing ambient noise levels by adjusting the volume of the radio according to the vehicle’s speed signal. (2) OPT/ARC Weight is the maximum allowable weight for regular production options (OPT) and aftermarket equipment (Accessory Reserve Capacity) for models with standard equipment and the engine/transmission combination indicated. (3) Gross Axle Weight Rating is determined by the rated capacity of the minimum component of the axle system (axle, computer-selected springs, wheels, tires) of a specific vehicle. Front and rear GAWRs will, in all cases, sum to a number equal to or greater than the GVWR for the particular vehicle. Maximum loaded vehicle (including passengers, equipment and payload) cannot exceed the GVW rating or GAWR (front or rear). NOTE: Refer to pages 49–50 for Standard Powertrain/Chassis Equipment Specifications. Refer to Payload tab in Appendices book for optional equipment weights. (645 lbs. removable plow assembly + 50 lbs. permanently attached hardware) — SuperCab 535 lbs. (485 lbs. removable plow assembly + 50 lbs. permanently attached hardware) • These snowplow weight limits are based upon a vehicle built with maximum buildable Ford option content, driver plus one front seat passenger, 150 lbs. each, 800 lbs. of ballast weight rearward of the rear axle and additional assumptions for commercially available snowplow assembly weights and mounting location • Exceeding these snowplow weight limits may result in the completed vehicle exceeding its load rating as shown on the Final Stage Manufacturer Safety Compliance Certification Label Completed Vehicle Weight The weight of the completed vehicle with equipment installed (and second unit body, if applicable) must not exceed the Front GAWR, Rear GAWR or GVWR established by Ford. If sufficient weight is added such that the completed vehicle with a driver and more than one passenger would exceed Front GAWR, Rear GAWR or GVWR, it is the responsibility of the equipment installer to notify the customer of the appropriate use restrictions (i.e., that the user should limit occupancy of the vehicle to the driver and one passenger while the equipment is installed). The addition of ballast weight, placed rearward of the rear axle, may be required to prevent front end overloading or exceeding Front GAWR. If required, the ballast weight must be securely attached to the vehicle. For Ford completed vehicles of 10,000 lbs. GVWR or less, the weight of permanently attached equipment must not exceed the Total Accessory Reserve Capacity (TARC) as specified on the Safety Compliance Certification Label. Permanently attached equipment includes the snowplow frame-mounting hardware, and does not include the removable snowplow blade assembly. Exceeding TARC will require recertification. Front-end Wheel Alignment and Headlamp Aim Front-end wheel alignment (toe) and headlamp aim may require adjustment after installation of equipment, and is the responsibility of the equipment installer. Failure to reset front wheel alignment may cause premature, uneven tire wear. If required, reset to chassis manufacturer’s specifications found in the Ford Shop Manual. Electrical Connections Installation of any inductive load devices (i.e., electric motors, electric clutches for clutch pumps, etc.) MUST NOT be connected to OEM wiring or fuse panels. Power for such devices should be taken directly from the battery or starter motor relay power terminal. Control of these devices should be achieved via relays. No direct current path should exist between OEM wiring and the installed load that is not filtered by the battery. These recommendations are intended to reduce or eliminate any induced reverse voltage into the OEM circuitry. Warranty The Normal Ford New Vehicle Limited Warranty applies to vehicles with snowplows installed in accordance with these guidelines.
