5.4L 3V SOHC V8 engine features Flexible Fuel capability to
run on gasoline, E85 or a mixture of both. Delivers up to

4.6L 3V SOHC V8 engine delivers 292 horsepower and

6-speed automatic transmission provides smooth shifts and
a balance of performance and fuel economy, and
is designed to handle the horsepower and torque of the

Electronic Shift-On-the-Fly (ESOF) 4x4 System is operated
by a three-position rotary switch mounted on the instrument
panel for convenient 4x4 performance.
Electronic locking rear differential is standard and exclusive
to the F-150 FX4 models, helping make the FX4 a very
capable off-road truck.
Payload capacity is impressive across all models
and cab styles. F-150 continues to offer best-in-class(2)
payload capacity with a maximum of 3030 lbs. when
properly equipped.
Towing capacity is best-in-class(2) across all cabs with a
maximum of 11,300 lbs. when properly equipped.
Trailer Brake Controller is factory installed and assures
smooth and effective trailer braking by powering the trailer’s
electric brakes with a proportional output based on the
towing vehicle’s brake pressure.
Trailer Sway Control is a component within AdvanceTrac®
with RSC® (Roll Stability ControlTM) and is designed to
monitor the truck’s performance while towing and works to
correct unwanted trailer sway.
Tow/Haul mode is included with the 6-speed automatic
transmission and when activated helps reduce gear hunting
to keep the engine in the optimum power range. The
engine braking feature helps control vehicle speed on
downhill grades.
Chassis
Coil-over-shock double-wishbone front suspension for a
smooth ride over rough surfaces.
Optimized Hotchkiss rear suspension includes outboardmounted shock absorbers and long rear leaf springs that
are 3" wide (Super Duty® size) and help to provide excellent
cornering and control when towing.
Speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion steering provides increased
steering assist at lower speeds to help aid maneuverability
when parking and reduces assist at higher speeds for
improved road feel.
Four-wheel disc Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) includes
new large high-performance four-wheel vented disc brakes
with standard ABS and Electronic Brake Force Distribution
to help provide responsive, confident stops.

Optimizes the timing of the intake and exhaust valves
during the combustion cycle. This lets the engine deliver

Electronic Throttle Control
Translates accelerator motions and other inputs into control of
engine power. The accelerator pedal controls the throttle by
means of a computer-controlled stepping motor in lieu of a
conventional linkage from pedal to throttle. It works by
integrating throttle movements with the vehicle’s electronically
controlled functions, such as cruise control or idle speed. It
enhances control, driveability and performance. This feature
is also known as “drive-by-wire.”

Presentation Tip: Flexible Fuel (E85) Capability
The F-150 equipped with the 5.4L V8 offers Flexible Fuel (E85) capability. This allows the engine to operate on E85 fuel —
a blend of 85 percent ethanol fuel and 15 percent unleaded gasoline. The 5.4L V8 can run on E85 fuel, regular unleaded
gasoline or any combination of the two. It’s important to note that while operating on E85, the 5.4L V8 offers increased
levels of power but will also deliver measurably less fuel economy. This is normal, since E85 has less energy as a fuel, it
takes more E85 to make the same power as unleaded gasoline. The primary benefits of E85 fuel are that it’s made from
renewable resources to help lower our dependence on imported oil and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Power deployable running boards extend out from the

Once the doors are closed, the running boards return to

Rain-sensing wipers automatically activate when moisture
is present on the windshield and the control switch is set to
any of five auto interval/sensitivity settings. Wiper speed
varies based on the amount of moisture detected.

•An electronic stability control system that helps the driver
maintain vehicle stability in adverse driving situations or

•Monitors vehicle’s cornering behavior with steering angle,
lateral acceleration and yaw rate sensors, and automatically
makes braking and throttle adjustments to match vehicle’s
direction to the driver’s intention using Anti-lock Braking

front passenger in the event of certain frontal collisions.

•Side curtain airbags will not interfere with properly installed
child safety seats or booster seats
•Canopy is designed to stay inflated longer for added
protection in a rollover or multiple side impacts

2010 F-150 received the highest possible ratings (5 stars) in
frontal and side-impact tests conducted by the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
F-150 (4x2 SuperCrew model) received the highest possible
rating in each of the following tests:
Frontal Offset Test — vehicle impacts a fixed barrier at 40
mph. Only 40 percent of the vehicle’s front surface makes
contact with the barrier.
Side-impact Test — a 3300-lb. barrier moving at 31 mph
strikes the side of a stationary vehicle.
Roof Strength Test — a metal plate is pushed
against the corner of the vehicle roof at constant
speed. The maximum force sustained by the roof
before 5" of crush is measured, and then compared
to the vehicle weight to determine a strength-toweight ratio.
Rear-impact Test — the vehicle’s front seat is mounted on a
platform which is accelerated forward. This simulates the
stationary vehicle being hit from behind and tests for
whiplash injury.
• In the full-frontal test, vehicles are crashed into a fixed barrier
at 35 mph, which is like a head-on collision between two
similar vehicles, each moving at 35 mph
•Side-impact crash test represents an intersection-type
collision with a 3015-lb. barrier moving at 38.5 mph into
a standing vehicle

•These snowplow weight limits are based upon a vehicle built with maximum buildable Ford option content, driver plus one
front-seat passenger, 150 lbs. each, 800 lbs. of ballast weight rearward of the rear axle and additional assumptions for
commercially available snowplow assembly weights and mounting location
•Exceeding these snowplow weight limits may result in the completed vehicle exceeding its load rating as shown on the Final
Stage Manufacturer Safety Compliance Certification Label
Completed Vehicle Weight
The weight of the completed vehicle with equipment installed (and second unit body, if applicable) must not exceed the Front
GAWR, Rear GAWR or GVWR established by Ford. If sufficient weight is added such that the completed vehicle with a driver
and more than one passenger would exceed Front GAWR, Rear GAWR or GVWR, it is the responsibility of the equipment
installer to notify the customer of the appropriate use restrictions (i.e., that the user should limit occupancy of the vehicle to
the driver and one passenger while the equipment is installed). The addition of ballast weight, placed rearward of the rear
axle, may be required to prevent front end overloading or exceeding Front GAWR. If required, the ballast weight must be
securely attached to the vehicle. For Ford completed vehicles of 10,000 lbs. GVWR or less, the weight of permanently attached
equipment must not exceed the Total Accessory Reserve Capacity (TARC) as specified on the Safety Compliance Certification
Label. Permanently attached equipment includes the snowplow frame-mounting hardware, and does not include the removable
snowplow blade assembly. Exceeding TARC will require recertification.
Front-end Wheel Alignment and Headlamp Aim
Front-end wheel alignment (toe) and headlamp aim may require adjustment after installation of equipment, and is the
responsibility of the equipment installer. Failure to reset front wheel alignment may cause premature, uneven tire wear.
If required, reset to chassis manufacturer’s specifications found in the Ford Shop Manual.
Electrical Connections
Installation of any inductive load devices (i.e., electric motors, electric clutches for clutch pumps, etc.) MUST NOT be connected
to OEM wiring or fuse panels. Power for such devices should be taken directly from the battery or starter motor relay power
terminal. Control of these devices should be achieved via relays. No direct current path should exist between OEM wiring and
the installed load that is not filtered by the battery. These recommendations are intended to reduce or eliminate any induced
reverse voltage into the OEM circuitry.

The Normal Ford New Vehicle Limited Warranty applies to vehicles with snowplows installed in accordance with these
guidelines. Consult your Ford dealer or the Owner’s Guide for any further questions.
