About this Guide
Overview:
BYU had ten alumni playing basketball professionally during the 2015-16
season, with two in the U.S. (Fredette, Carlino), one in Spain (Haws), one in
Poland (Broadus), two in Italy (Davies & Tavernari), one in France (Carlino), one
in Belgium (Cummard), one in Argentina (Ambrosino), one in Lithuania
(Plaisted), & one in Qatar (Abouo).
In 2015-16 there was at least one active professional basketball player for every
BYU class since 2009, and there has been at least one player go pro from every
class in the Dave Rose era, with 19 total players since 2005. This guide provides
playing summaries and statistics for each of the active players.

Tyler Haws Class of 2015
Tyler Haws (@tyhaws3) went undrafted in the 2015 NBA
draft. After an unsuccessful tryout with the Cleveland
Cavaliers, he made his way to Europe, where he signed with
Rio Natura Monbus in Spain (Liga Endesa). In 2015-16 he
spent most of the season as the first man off the
bench. However, he did earn a starting role by the end of
the season.

Matt Carlino Class of 2014
Matt Carlino (no twitter) just completed his first season
professional basketball. He left BYU in 2014 for Marquette
where he played his final season as a graduate
transfer. Then, after trying out for the Milwaukee Bucks he
headed to Europe to play for the Italian experimental
national team. He ended up with France’s Boulazac Basket
(ProB League) where he averaged 12.4 points per game in 10
appearances. In January 2016 he was signed by the Rio
Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA’s Developmental League,
where he played for the remainder of the 2015-16 season, and in one playoff game.

Brandon Davies Class of 2013
Brandon Davies (no twitter) had a two-year stint in the NBA
(Clippers, 76ers, Nets) and had a career high 20 points in a
game with the 76ers in 2014. After being waived by the Nets
in January 2015 he was signed by Elan Chalon in France’s
LNB Pro A League. This is his first season for Openjobmetis
Varese (Serie A League) in Italy.

Agustin Ambrosino Class of 2013
Agustin Ambrosino (no twitter) only played for one season
at BYU (2012-13) in which he averaged 1.8 points, 1.4
rebounds, and 6.2 minutes in 31 games. He left BYU prior to
his senior season and went back to Argentina to play for
Weber Bahia Blanca (Liga A), where he played during the
2013-14 season (3.0 points in 8.6 minutes per game). He
played the following season for Tomas De Docamor and he
currently plays for Alianza Viedma (TNA League) also in
Argentina.

Charles Abouo Class of 2012
Charles Abouo (@CharlesAbouo1) was born November 4,
1989 in the Ivory Coast. He attended High School in Logan,
Utah where he broke the all-time scoring record at Logan
High. After graduating from BYU, Abouo started playing
basketball professionally in 2012 with CB Penas Huesca in
Spain (2012-13). He then played for Quesos Cerrato (201314) and now plays for Al Khor in Qatar (2015-16). He has also
been a member of the Cote d’Ivoire national team (2009,
2010, 2013).

 Finished 2015-16 as No. 3 in the league in scoring
 Finished 2015-16 No. 5 in the Qatar league in rebounds
 Finished 2015-16 No. 1 in the Qatar league in steals with 3.7 per game-almost a full steal more per game than No. 2 in the league.
 Named 2015-16 All-Qatar D1 Defensive Player of the Year
 Selected as a member of the 2015-16 All-Qatar League second team

Jimmer Fredette Class of 2011
Jimmer Fredette (@jimmerfredette) was drafted No. 10 in
the 2011 NBA draft. He played six games for the New
Orleans Pelicans at the beginning of his fifth NBA season
(2015-16), and averaged 0.5 points in just 3.3 minutes per
game. He was waived by the Pelicans in November. He was
then drafted by New York No. 2 overall in the NBA’s
Developmental League (D-League stats). He played
extremely well in the D-League and was called up to the
New York Knicks for a 10-day contract in February 2016. He
returned to the Westchester Knicks where he completed the season.

Jonathan Tavernari Class of 2010
Jonathan Tavernari (@For3JT) has been playing
professionally overseas since graduating from BYU in 2010.
He has spent time playing in Brazil (Pinheiros, 2010-11,
2013-14) and in Italy (Pallacanestro Biella, 2011-12; Pistoia
Basket, 2012; Scafati Basket, 2012-13; Derthona Basket,
2014-15) He started the 2015-16 season for BCC
Corvengenze Agropoli (Italy Serie A2 League). In a January
interview with BYU Insider he expressed interest in possibly
coming back to BYU at some point.

Lee Cummard Class of 2009
Lee Cummard (no twitter) has been playing in professionally
since graduating from BYU in 2009. He started with the Utah
Flash of the D-League (2009-10) and then spent a few
seasons in France (fos-sur-Mer, 2010-11, 2012-13) and Japan
(Kyoto Hannaryz, 2011-12). He is currently in his third
season with Belgium’s Okapi Aalstar (Scooore League. He
recently had an 11 point, 6 rebound, 3 assist outing as
Aalstar defeated Verviers-Pepinster 85-70.

Trent Plaisted Class of 2008
Trent Plaisted (no twitter) has played in more countries than
any other BYU alumn, with stops in Detroit (NBA), Italy,
Croatia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Turkey, Germany, France, and
now back in Lithuania where he plays for Neptunas (LKL).
All in all he has played for 12 teams in eight different
countries.

Rashaun Broadus (@RashaunBroadus) has been a
Euroleague journeyman since entering the league in 2007.
He has played in Romania (CSU Basov, 2008-09), Lithuania
(Suduva Marijampole, 2009-10; Siauliai, 2010-12; BC
Neptunas Klaipeda, 2012-13; Juventus Utena, 2014-15), the
Ukraine (Politekhnika-Halychyna, 2010), and for his current
team (MKS Dabrowa Gornicza) in Poland.
