the Same - rsvp
Thursday, October 29, 10am in the Burnham
Myra Loris will take a look back at the revolutionary
economic and social changes of the 1950s. Americans

Good Old Neon Signs - rsvp
SoulCollage is a creative, intuitive process that allows you
to bypass your analytical, logical mind, and tap into your
subconscious self and inner wisdom. Using images found
in magazines or personal photo collections, you will
create small card-collages that require no special skills to
create. The cards can be consulted when you are troubled
or need guidance or are planning a life change. You will
learn a process for reading your personal deck of cards
that represents your inner counselors who can pass along
insight, information and guidance. All supplies and many
images will be provided. Feel free to bring along a journal
or notebook, as well as any images or photographs that
hold special meaning for you. Shari Pergricht is a Trained
SoulCollage Facilitator and a retired Harper College
faculty member with over 30 years of experience working
with individuals and groups as a counselor and teacher.
Nick Freeman presents a lively and colorful talk and
slide show featuring his neon sign photography. Taken
throughout the Chicagoland area, his work showcases
familiar icons and quirky remnants from a time when
brightly lit signs filled the urban landscape. He delves
into the history, production, and impact of these fastdisappearing symbols of big-city glamour and commerce,
and shares his affection for the gritty, offbeat, and
unusual neon still found throughout the region.

Watercolor Class - rsvp
Fridays, September 4 & 11, 1:30-3pm
in the Art Studio
Art Teacher, Laura D’Argo will take you through lessons
using watercolors.
Watercolor Supply List
-A set of watercolors, student grade is fine. Even a
student watercolor tray set from Target will do.
-Round size 8 and size 2 watercolor brushes. Either
natural or synthetic hairs are good.
-A watercolor pad, the best is the heaviest ‘lb’ weight
(thickness).
-A BLOCKED pad is sealed on the sides all around the
pad, these are superior as they control the wrinkling of
the paper without stretching the paper which would take
up our entire class time. A blocked pad is not essential
but heavy weight watercolor paper is required for good
results.
-And, a plain pencil and eraser.
Learn watercolor techniques with nature as our subject
matter. Easy step by step instructions. All skill levels
are welcome. There is no fee for this class other than
securing materials needed. Some art class materials
might be available to share.

PLEASE
Welcome
Carm Mistretta Residence 3118
Carm moved to her Garland’s apartment on June 9, 2015.
She lived in Glenview for 20 years, as well as, the south and north sides of Chicago. She
grew up on the near west side.
Carm’s husband was a Chicago policeman, and Carm stayed home raising their children.
The couple had to live in the city as required by his job. He passed away in 1995. Together,
they have two sons and five grandchildren.
Going to the movies is fun for Carm, as well as going out to lunch and dinner with friends.
She enjoys plays and travel. A highlight for her was going to Washington DC for three days
with her son on the Fourth of July last year.
Carm exercises regularly for her health, so please say hello to her up in the Fitness Center.
Terry Herdrich Residence 2124
Terry and her husband Dick moved to The Garlands the second day of June, 2015. They
lived in the sunny Tampa Bay area for fifteen years and maintained a summer home in
Schaumburg, IL consecutively. They lived in Inverness for 12 or 13 years before retiring to
Florida so that they could enjoy playing golf more often, although they also belonged to
Biltmore when they lived in Inverness.
Dick was 21 years old and Terry was 19 years old when they wed back in 1949. She met Dick
through her brother. Terry’s brother actually asked Dick if he would take his sister, Terry
to her high school prom. Dick said yes and that started a relationship that resulted in a 66
year marriage until Dick passed away suddenly in June of 2015.
Terry went to Immaculata High School in Chicago and attended Mundelein College for
one year and Loyola University until she wed Dick. Terry actually worked in Dick’s plastic’s
company that specialized in making the plastic coating that goes over credit cards. Terry
has 7 children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Terry enjoyed tennis, skiing, bowling and golfing as well as entertaining business
associates at dinner. Now she likes to read, and watch TV and movies on Netflix. She also
attends plays. Please welcome Terry and maybe even invite her to go to a movie or to
dinner with you some evening.
