On Friday 30th June Mr. Roderick O’Connor, Mr. Liam Mellowes and the other mutineers having made a very brief defence of their stronghold, the Tour Courts, Dublin, intimated their willingness to surrender after
the National Army had stormed and captured a great portion of the buildings. Immediately prior to the surrender, the mutineers urea a mine destroying.the Four Courts and its stores of priceless records and injuring
numbers of tto National troops. This remarkable photograph was secured at the moment of the explosion by the well-known photographic artist, Mr. J. Cashman, Dublin.

The total destruction of the entire Eastern side of Sackville St reet Lower and a portion of Sackville Street L pper began with the fire which destroyed eight
business establishments (Nos. 1 to 8) in Upper Sackville Street on Easter Monday, 1916. These eight houses were the seat of twenty-four businesses. In Lower
Sackville Street the destruction was almost altogether caused by shell fire from 18 -pounder guns and the resultant conflagrations, and no less than thirty-four
houses and sixty-two distinct businesses were sacrificed.
By Friday evening, 28th April. 1916, the entire destruction was completed.
