Silence the Stress
Loud noises trigger your body’s
production of cortisol, a stress hormone
that has been linked to increased belly
fat, high blood pressure and even heart
disease. If you can’t remove yourself
from loud places, try foam earplugs or
white noise machines to lessen the din.
Walk It Off
Wearing a pedometer all day can
help increase the number of steps you
take from morning until night. Hitting a
goal of 10,000 steps per day will help
you shed pounds and improve health.
Let the Sun Shine in
The cheapest, most energyefficient light and heat source is just
outside your window. On bright days,
open blinds and drapes to let the sun
light your home. Sunlight can also
help heat your home. Even on cold
winter days, sun streaming into a
room can raise the temperature
several degrees.
Avoid Alarm Anxiety
Consider facing your alarm clock
away from the bed to discourage
late-night time checks. Looking at the
time in the middle of the night can
cause anxiety and make it much
harder to fall back asleep.

Wit & Wisdom
“In a great romance, each person
basically plays a part that the other
really likes.”
—Elizabeth Ashley
“Romance is thinking about your
significant other when you are
supposed to be thinking about
something else.”
—Nicholas Sparks
“There is something so settled and
stodgy about turning a great romance
into ‘next of kin’ on an
emergency-room form, and something
so soothing and special, too.”
—Anna Quindlen
“They spoil every romance by trying to
make it last forever.”
—Oscar Wilde
“Youth cannot imagine romance apart
from youth.”
—Booth Tarkington
“And what is romance? Usually a nice
little tale where you have everything
as you like it, where rain never wets
your jacket and gnats never bite your
nose, and it’s always daisy time.”
—D.H. Lawrence
“Romance is a love affair in other than
domestic surroundings.”
—Sir Walter Raleigh
“Wave after wave of love flooded the
stage and washed over me, the
beginning of the one great durable
romance of my life.”
—Bette Davis
“There are two sorts of romantics:
those who love and those who love
the adventure of loving.”
—Lesley Blanch
