First, I want to thank Robin and Bob Kendall for
hosting our summer picnic. Everyone in attendance appeared to have a great time, and the food
was fantastic as usual.
Second, I want to wish all of you that are testing in
the Inland or So Cal tests good luck! If you need
help at the last minute solving an issue please contact one of your Board Members.
Your Board of Directors met and set training days
and locations for September through January. Last
year we had very poor turnout for our fall training days mainly because most members were out
hunting. Most of the training days had two or three dog handlers that needed help show, and six or
seven Board Members there to help that sacrificed hunting to attend. We also discussed the fact that

our sister chapter So Cal holds no training days during hunting season. So this year we are going to

switch things up and ask you to RSVP two weeks in advance for fall/winter training days so that the
Board Members can have time to juggle schedules. Additionally if we don't have more than five respondents we will not pull the trailer down to training day from its storage location at Mesa Grande.

Please remember, if you need help with your dog, or just need advice over the phone, please call or email me and I will match you
up with someone that will be able to help you.
I want to wish everyone a successful hunting season and have fun!

September is here and along with it the very beginnings of the 14/15 Hunting Season. Since the first Dove season ends on the 15th of September
we decided the 20th of September would be a great day to hold a Training Day to work out those last few bad habits before Quail, Duck and
eventually Pheasant seasons start. Normally there is a start time of 8:00 am ,but if you will be ordering birds please arrive shortly before 8 to
procure your birds. Directions can be found here and here.

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a medium-sized gundog
breed of relatively recent vintage. The breed was developed
near the end of the 19th century, and ever since then these
dogs have awed people with their amazing ability to point
and retrieve.
The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon was originally used for
hunting and would flush, point, and retrieve water fowl,
game birds, and even hares. She's been described as the
"supreme gundog" and is still actively used in this role. She
also makes an excellent family companion and enjoys any
kind of work. Many Griffons have been successful in agility,
tracking, and obedience.
The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is also a happy and loving
breed. She generally gets along well with everyone, and although she'll alert bark, she's too gentle to be a strong guard dog. She
does well in homes with children, but she prefers older children who know how to treat a dog properly. She usually gets along
with other pets and dogs but still needs to be socialized, since some Griffons can be nervous when they're introduced to new people, dogs, and situations.
The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a fairly young breed. Its development is attributed to one E.K. Korthals, a Dutchman who
lived in France and was interested in creating the ideal gundog. There's no clear evidence of what breeds he used, but some believe that he crossed the Otterhound and various Setters and Spaniels. It's also probable that a Pointer was part of the mix.

Thanks goes out to the Kendalls for hosting a great summer picnic at their home in La Mesa. As always the food was great and
the company even better.
