GRAND MARSHAL
50+ year member of the Riverdale Grange, California
State Grange, and the National Grange, charter member
of the Riverdale Rodeo Association, a member of the
Laton Co-op Gin and served on the Board of Directors,
and many more.
When Edgar's wife Lois was killed in an auto accident in
1982, he started his retirement from farming.
In 1986 Edgar married Barbara DeRuiter. Over the next
few years Edgar and Barbara traveled and lived in Arizona
and Alaska. They returned
to live in Hanford
and
Lemoore in 2001. In 2009 they moved to the Redding
area. That iswhere they now reside.
Edgar's two daughters and spouses, five grandchildren,
Edgar Wheat was born on December 10, 1918 near
and nine great grandchildren all live in Fresno and Kings
McAllister, Oklahoma.

of a farming career. During these farming years, Edgar
farmed
in the
commercial
Laton
and Riverdale area and did
harvesting through
out the San Joaquin
Valley, Imperial Valley and Arizona.
Over the years, Edgar has been involved many local
community
projects and organizations:

The Riverdale Rodeo Association would like to make
a special "Tribute" to this years 2010 Grand Marshal,
Edgar Wheat. Mr. Edgar Wheat graciously accepted
our invite to be our 2010 Riverdale Rodeo Grand
Marhsal. We are thankful of his acceptance, but are
sad to announce Mr. Wheat's passing on Wednesday,
April 28, 2010.
Mr. Wheat was one of many founding father's of the
Riverdale Rodeo Association in 1956. He is recognized as a Charter Member. Mr. Wheat's dedication
and contribution to our valley will not go without notice. He will be missed.

2009 Rodeo Queen
Hi, I'm Kayla McGrew, The 2009 Riverdale Rodeo
Queen. This past year has been filled with great people,
lots of laughs and wonderful memories.
Being queen has been a great opportunity and has
benefitted me in several ways such as career and
educational opportunities and it has helped me develop
the people skills I need in the future to succeed. I would
like to thank the Riverdale Rodeo Association for
supporting me and giving me the opportunity to represent
such a wonderful town and great group of people.

Hello, my name is Serrena Torres.
I am a sixth grader at Riverdale Elementary School.
I enjoyed being The 2009 Riverdale Rodeo Princess,
it was a great experience. I would like to thank all my
family, friends, and the Riverdale community as well
as the surrounding communities for their support.
I would also like to give a big thank you to the
Riverdale Rodeo Association for this great
opportunity. I would like to wish the future

Hi, my name is Chanee Cain
I am 19 years old and I am from Lemoore. I am the daughter of Dave & Gorete Cain.
I am the second child of four siblings and currently a full time student at WHCe.
I am majoring in Liberol Arts with the hopes of becoming a teacher.
My hobbies include sports, camping or anything to do with the outdoors,
attending Portuguese Festas and dances, and being a role model for my younger sisters.

My name is Monserrat Arambula. I am four years old.
am the daughter of Jesus and Yasmin Arambula. I am
their second child and I have an older brother and
younger sister.
This is my first year of preschool at Central Valley Preschool.
I always try my best at everything I do. I love to dance, read,
model, and have pictures taken during my free time.
My favorite Disney Princess is "Cinderella".

Hi, my name is Jenna Mendes. I am 11 years old
and currently a fifth grader at Riverdale Elementary School.
I am the daughter of Richard and Janiece Mendes of
Riverdale. I have an older brother, Cody. I am the
Granddaughter of Tony and Phyllis Mendes along with
Roy and Dianna Jobe all of Riverdale.
My hobbies are playing sports, riding quads, and
spending time on the beach. I also enjoy spending time
with my dog "BJ" and horses in which I hope to have
one of my own someday.

passing of Mr. Norman Adney, a long time friend to many of the members
and officers as well as the father of long time member and
Riverdale Rodeo Secretary Eric Adney.

Norman was well liked by many within the community and lived in

Riverdale for over 40 of his 69 years. He was affectionately nicknamed
~
"STORMIN' NORMAN" by Rodeo President Michael Pimentel and
was great friends with many of the active members as well as many

of the Riverdale Rodeo supporters. Norman's passing has left a
~
void in the lives of all of the members who knew him, but we all
~
know that he is in a better place and is still supporting

Jeffery Alan Tomasetti was born on February 8, 1956, in Fresno,
California and passed away unexpectedly at home on
Sunday, January 17, 2010.

He was a native of Riverdale, graduating from Riverdale High School
and attending Fresno City College. He has worked for the past eight
years as a truck driver for Superior Trucking. Previously he worked
for Jim Critchley and Tomasetti Livestock Transportation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie and

Louie Tomasetti; and his brother David Tomasetti. Jeffery is survived
by Jeanette Tomasetti, his wife of twenty-four years: two daughters,
Megan and Lauren and a grandson Ethan, all of Laton California;

Riverdale Cattle Member for many years. Lucille stood by her husband
Ted who was an active Member of the Cattlemans Association;
she rode beside him when he was Honorary Grand Marshall in the
Riverdale spring festival parade in 2005.

Katherine was born on October 25,1938 in Riverdale to Robert and
Ruth Portis. In her early childhood the family lived in Riverdale and~
Stratford. She started high school at Washington Union in Easton. In
the early 50's the family moved back to Riverdale where she attended
Riverdale High School.

Kathy married Anthony (Babe) Evangello on August 19, 1955 in Reno
Nevada. After 5 or 6 months of marriage, a home on the family
property became available and they moved there. That's where they
shared their lives together for 54 years. For over 18 years Kathy worked full time at McKean's Clothing
~

Store in Riverdale.
~

~
Kathy was always a true partner to Babe. She worked along side him whenever she could when he
was driving trucks. In fact she went with him so often he taught her to drive trucks so that she
could get her license to drive trucks. She loved the SPRSI and worked hard for the organization.
In 2005 after more than 30 years of service Kathy was installed as President of SPRSI.

She had a great love 10, dogs enjoyed cooking foe other people.
Kathy lost her battle with cancer on Janurary 2, 2010. She is survived by her loving husband Babe,
her sisters Barbara and Marjorie, sisters-in-law RoseMarie and Lucille. She is also survived by her
dear friends Rhea and Jerry Bellew, several nieces and nephews and he, 3 faithful dogs.

We would like to salute the Riverdale Rodeo Association on their 54th Anniversary and their dedicated
commitment to our community and our Spring Festival weekend!
We would also like to thank the Dairyman's Association, the local merchants and friends for helping make
our parade so successful. Our Association is open to anyone who would like to help keep our parade
going. We are a family organization (singles, married couples, and children are always welcome), and

The "Irmandade do Divino Espirto Santo" or the "Brotherhood of
the Divine Holy Spirit" began in the city of San Jose in 1889. The
society started as a way to support widows of deceased members.
Other family protection programs soon developed and have been
revised many times over to become an important part of our
Brotherhood today.
With the success of this organization, and perpetuation of the
devotion to the Holy Spirit, in the form of the traditional "Festa do
Espirito Santo" (which was so important to these immigrants in their
Portuguese homeland), petitions for additional subordinate Councils
were received.
Since the formation of the Original Council, the I.O.E.S. has
instituted over 150 new Councils, from Crescent City in the North to
Point Loma in the South; throughout the Sacramento and San
Joaquin Valleys; and the Coastal regions of our great State.
However,
with
the advent of the horseless carriage, and
improved highways and transportation, many of the Councils
consolidated or merged with neighboring Councils forming larger and
stronger Councils.
The I.D.E.S. Benefit Programs have evolved over a period, to the
extent that today the I.D.E.S. offers the very best portfolio of up to
date insurance plans for the protection of its members and their
families.
In addition to the insurance aspects, the I.O.E.S. maintains a very
responsive Charity Fund; a Scholarship Fund to aid college bound
students; a student grant program called the Youth Memorial Fund;
and a number of social and fratemal programs aimed at promoting
love and respect for the traditions of the Portuguese Culture.
Most Recently, we have worked closely with the Toys For Tot's
Collection, Make-A-Wish Foundation, & various other organizations
in an effort to make a difference in our communities.
