Miami Beach hotels and Midwest prairie homes. Its
diverse influence is found in home furnishings by
Donald Deskey, automobiles by Buckminster Fuller
and jewelry by Tiffany.

Picasso & the School of Paris

ideas that took place during this experimental period
in Western art. Class is a wonderful introduction to
modern art, especially if you plan to see the exhibit.

Thucydides
WWII story
Thucydides:
The Peloponnesian War
War Orphan in San Francisco:
Growing Up with Courage
Athens ruled the seas, Sparta was invincible on land. They were polar opposites — the one
exuberantly democratic, risk-takingly creative; the
other disciplined from the cradle, the home of all the
purely military virtues. A tragic necessity embedded
in human affairs locked the two in a conflict for
supremacy that brought an end to Greek liberty.
Happily, the encounter found in the Athenian general
Thucydides its deeply thoughtful historian. We will
read him in Rex Warner’s able translation (Penguin
Classics).
