We have a rare & unusual 190E 2.6 for sale. It's a Sportline car with sports chassis, quicker steering, lowered suspension, bigger wheels & lower profile tyres,
Sportline badges and sports seats front & rear. One of the attractive things about Sportline cars is that they're not too extreme. Whilst they're lower and
somewhat stiffer than standard cars the modifications don't destroy ride comfort like some ill-advised "tuner" specials
This 2.6 is a classic example of this - on the road it's taut and well-damped but still retains the usual 190E ride comfort and long-legged feel. The smooth sixcylinder 2.6-litre engine is torquey enough to make progress rapid & unflustered and it cruises easily at, and possibly somewhat beyond, the legal limit. It's a
very entertaining car to drive and it's hard to resist the temptation to jump in it for a quick blast on the Sussex B-roads across the South Downs
The car has a lovely original cloth interior with sport seats front & rear - rare in our experience - making this a strict four seater. The exterior of the car is
similarly unmarked and is in excellent condition overall. We've had the original 15-hole flat-face 7 x 15" alloys refurbished and have fitted new high-quality
Continental Premium Contact II tyres with new wheel bolts and the Mercedes laurel wreath centre caps we fit to Sportline & sports chassis cars. The spare
wheel & tyre are unused. The four-speaker stereo setup sounds good and we've replaced the original cassette radio with a high-spec Blaupunkt CD / Radio
with an iPod input cable in the centre console
The 2.6 is the only six-cylinder 190E. The smooth, perfectly-balanced six-pot engine makes this a far more sophisticated car than the four-cylinder versions
and the additional torque makes for a more relaxed driving style. The Sportline chassis setup makes the car crisper & more responsive and the overall package
is a typically well-judged Mercedes sports saloon and it represents an intelligent alternative to the 190E Cosworth
