At this time, Council is in the process of finalizing the 2015
budget. I am thankful to all members of Council for their
dedication in ensuring that the Municipality’s services are
provided in a responsible and cost-efficient manner.
As you may be aware, on December 1, 2014, the Municipality
terminated its agreement with the CIHL regarding its use of the
Municipality’s arena. The Municipality made this decision for a
whole host of reasons, including, in large part, the CIHL’s failure
to pay its rental fees in accordance with the timelines established
by the rental use agreement.
On a more positive note, I am pleased to report that several
members of the St. Charles community generously volunteered
their time to work on a number of recent events, including
beautification and minor hockey initiatives. We can all be proud of
our community’s efforts in this regard.
I would also like to extend congratulations to Tanner Duffney of
the St. Charles North Stars who recently accepted an offer from
an American university to join its hockey team. On January 24,
2015 our North Stars hockey team won two games in Colbourne,
Ontario. I was especially pleased to have had the honour of
dropping the puck for the ceremonial center-ice face-off.
Mayor Paul Schoppmann
I look forward to providing you with further positive updates
regarding the Council’s completion of the budget, and the accomplishments of members of our
community and the North Stars.

BOOK CLUB
"The Christmas Wedding" by James Patterson. The tree is decorated, the cookies are
baked, and the packages are wrapped, but the biggest celebration this Christmas is Gaby
Summerhill's wedding. Since her husband died three years ago, Gaby's four children
have drifted apart, each consumed by the turbulence of their own lives. They haven't
celebrated Christmas together since their father's death, but when Gaby announces that
she's getting married--and that the groom will remain a secret until the wedding day--she
may finally be able to bring them home for the holidays.
Next Book Club Meeting will be on February 11th at 7:00 at the library for "Snow
Flower and the Secret Fan" by Lisa See. Join us! Call Nicole at 705-867-5332
