February is a month in which we celebrate love. We write love
notes to our “sweethearts,” and we share with others how much
they mean to us. This February, I want to write a love letter to you
and share with you how much I love you and how much you mean
to me. At times I am brought to tears when I think of all God has
done through us. You dear people continue to give your time, talents, money, and lives to Christ’s work at Central. As I examined
the financial statement of 2012, I beamed with godly pride at your
sacrificial and abundant giving unto the Lord. Even though the
economy has not completely turned around, you still gave more to
God through Central’s general fund last year than at any time in
the last ten years! Furthermore, you gave generously to pay down
our building indebtedness, provided huts and goats for Africa, gave
numerous shoes to our Neighborhood Christian Center, and even
collected $10,000 so that 500 children could have Christmas in
Moldova. All this while once again being recognized as one of the
top churches in Alabama and the SBC in giving to international
missions through the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. Any pastor
would be proud as a peacock to serve such a giving congregation.
I am doubly proud that God has given me the privilege of serving
you!
Not only am I proud of you because you have been and continue
to be a giving congregation, but also because you are united in love
for one another. Far too many churches have power groups grabbing
for control, bickering members fussing at business meetings, small
groups that are mad at each other, and cliques that are dividing
instead of building up the body. Thanks be to God, not Central
Baptist! Your deep love for Christ is evidenced in the fact that we
have so much love and unity. I smile to myself as I see groups hanging around the Manna Hall after services, going out to eat together,
caring for each other, and so forth. We are reflecting what the body
of Christ should look like! I really could go on and on with things
that make me, as a pastor, proud of you. In case you haven’t gathered it yet, I am proud of you and I love you dearly.
Over the years I have not told you enough how much the Jackson
family loves you. The years have flown. It is really hard to believe
we are in our fifth year in our “new location” (we moved in 2008).
With each year that passes by, it seems God has given me a deeper
and greater love for Central. Why this TIE article? I could not
contain myself this “love month.” I had to write you a love letter
to let you know how much I love you and how proud I am of you.
Happy “Love Month”!
I love you,
Brother Rob
As we enter what some call the “Love Month,” I pray that your February
will be a special time in your life. Not only do I pray that you will be able
to spend some quality time with the people God has placed in your life,
but I pray that you will feel the incredible love that Jesus Christ has for
you! As strong as the human bond of love is among our family, it cannot
compare to the love that Jesus demonstrated when He hung on the cross
for you and for me.
I hope that you are making plans to be a part of Central’s Annual Valentine
Banquet to be held Saturday evening, February 9, 2013, at 5:00 pm. You
will be richly blessed by our entertainment for the evening, VOICES of
Mobile. These are students who attend the University of Mobile and have
a voice and a heart for God.
VOICES is a highly versatile, auditioned vocal ensemble consisting of 15
singers. Their music ranges from traditional to contemporary and all in
between. VOICES has performed in the White House, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, and has toured extensively throughout the Southeastern United States and abroad.
I appreciate that these talented college students place great emphasis on
the mission statement, “Honor Him with our Lives, Praise Him with our
Voices.” We will also enjoy their ministry in a portion of both morning
worship services, Sunday, February 10, 2013.
Get your tickets in the library for the meal and singing to follow as we have
an opportunity to hear more about the greatest love we can know – the love
of our precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
With love,
Bro. Bryan

According to legend, Midas loved gold so much that when
Dionysus granted him a wish, Midas asked that everything he
touched would turn to gold. At first, Midas was delighted with his
request, but when he discovered that his touch made food inedible
and that his embrace made loved ones lifeless. Getting what we want
can result in unforeseen and undesirable consequences. So much for
the Midas touch!
Most of us blame our circumstance when things aren’t going
well. We look for some external scapegoat. But maybe our problem
isn’t our circumstances; it is our perspective. God has a 360-degree
perspective on everything. He considers every contingency. At best,
we have a one-degree angle of vision; it’s like looking through a peephole at the entire World.
senior adult ministry
Wayne Newby
In Genesis 37 Joseph was cast into a hole, sold into slavery,
& taken far away from his family. Joseph’s cry of innocence went
unheard and was forced into manual labor often getting taken advantage of. Although his circumstance looked grim, Joseph perspective
on God never did. He would rise to become the savior of His people
during an immense famine on the land. Joseph would later echo
these words: “But don’t feel badly, don’t blame yourselves…God
was behind it. God sent me … to save lives.” (Gen 45:5)
As we journey into the New Year the question must be
asked: “What is your perspective of God?” Are we limiting our
view of God to our circumstances or are we discovering His grace by
diving into His word. I challenge you church family to begin to widen your perspective of God and allow Him to strengthen your faith.
…shine like STARS in the universe as you hold out the word of life…Philippians 2:15-16
“Serving Together A Risen Savior”
The Senior Adult Ministry began the New Year with a tasty lunch of soups and chili plus side dishes and lots of pies, cakes, brownies,
and cookies on Friday, January 11. We even had some new people attending who were keeping a New Year resolution (maybe) to get
involved in the STARS activities. Ed Higdon gave an inspiring devotional. Trip information sheets were provided, also asking for
trip suggestions. We then concluded with several gathering around tables to play favorite games.
One of the advantages I see in gathering for these monthly meetings is the development of lasting friendships with Christian brothers
and sisters. These friendships are strengthened and our faith made stronger when worshiping, studying, working on church projects,
visiting, or inviting others to join us in what we are doing. We will be taking some interesting trips this year so look for the announcements
and please join us. We do have fun and even learn something new sometimes, as well as strengthen our friendships here at Central
Baptist Church.

Hello Everyone!
Isn’t February fantastic! ALL of the Christmas decorations are safely
stowed away for another year, some of my New Year’s resolutions are still
relevant (should have known better than trying to give up M&Ms) and life
has settled back into a pretty wonderful routine! All this and Valentine’s
Day (and the promise of chocolate) is just around the corner!
Every year at about this time I sit down and open my Valentine drawer
and the tears usually begin before I even pick up the first card! There are
beautiful, mushy cards from my wonderful husband and equally wonderful
handmade cards from each of my sons. As I dig through the drawer I also
discover cards from my parents which have become particularly precious
since my Daddy went to be with the Lord. Finally, near the bottom of the
drawer I sift through colorful Valentines from countless children that have
touched my life throughout the years, and I relive the time I spent with each
of them. Some made me laugh, others made me cry, a few made me angry,
but all touched my heart forever! Many of them are still part of my life and
I love it when they share their latest news with me, but for the vast majority
of my little ones all I have left of them is my Valentine. Granted, it is a fond
memory but it is also a sad reminder of a relationship lost. How I would
love to reconnect with each of “my kids”.
Which causes me to pause and wonder how our Heavenly Father must feel
when He looks down on His children. How He must rejoice in those who
still call Him Father and hunger to spend time in His presence. Yet how
His heart must break when He gazes down at those who do not yet know
Him or those who have drifted away from His side. The thought of His
sadness is almost unbearable so perhaps the perfect Valentine’s gift for our
Heavenly Father would be a renewed commitment to help guide His lost
and misguided children back to Him! Now that’s an adventure that I’m
ready to start!
What a joy it is to serve alongside each of you! Thanks for sharing your
wonderful children with me!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
