Levels of Apprenticeships
There are two levels of apprenticeship available in England for those aged
16 and over:
Apprenticeships
. Apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such
as an NVQ Level 2, Functional Skills and a relevant knowledge-based
qualification such as a diploma
. These provide the skills apprentices need for their chosen career
and allow entry to an advanced Apprenticeship
. Once completed an Apprenticeship is equivalent to 5 good GCSE passes
Advanced Apprenticeships
' Advanced apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such
as NVQ Level 3, further Key skills/Functional skilts and a relevant knowledgebased certificate such as a diploma
. To start this programme, apprentices shoulcl ideally have five
GCSEs
(grade C or above) or have completed an apprenticeship
' once
completed an Advanced Apprenticeship is equivalent to 2 A-level passes
Support During Training
Apprenticeships are designed with the help of the employers in the industry,
so they offer a structured programme that takes apprentices through the skills
they need to do a job well. There are targets and checks to make sure that their
employer is supporting them and they are making progress. Each apprentice is
allocated with a dedicated Apprenticeship Officer who will mentor and guide
thenr through their Apprenticeship. They will ensure that the apprentice's
training fits their personal requirements, offers the skills needed for the lob
and satisfies national standards. They will also be there to help them through
any difficult times.
