Here, above the snow-covered mountains surrounding the Paznaun valley, there is an
abundance of sunshine. On 12.12.12, the new Hotel Zhero opens in Kappl, Austria.
I
t is a tried and test formula. A superb
location, sunny and peaceful, yet still
central and close to the action. Add
to this pared-down contemporary
interior design that is also comfortable and in keeping with its surroundings, and you have just the combination that

these well-travelled guests bring with them certain lifestyle expectations. Jens Liebhauser
knows this very well, as he spends his time
commuting between Mallorca, Austria,
Switzerland, Italy and the UK. On behalf of his

design studio EWRE, he is constantly on the
lookout for the next big location and the latest
look – for a luxury villa, an apartment complex
or a hotel. What Liebhauser started in
Mallorca in 2007, with the opening of his
Zhero hotel in San Agustin, has now reached
its peak so far in Kappl, Austria.

Ischgl. The interior design of Hotel Zhero in
Kappl, whose exterior is contemporary minimalism, is a successful fusion of traditional
materials in warm colours that contrast with the
rectangular lines of the furniture. “International
design trends are just as at home here as traditional craftsmanship,” says Liebhauser, speaking of the style of the hotel, whose lounge,
with sofas designed by Minotti, also serves as
the glamorous stage for cultural events. The

he choice of location for his latest project once again reveals Liebhauser’s
talent. Kappl is one of the most beautiful ski resorts in Tyrol. The season begins on
14th December with the Interchalet Skiopening. Skiers, carvers and snowboarders
can choose from 40 kilometres of pistes, to
suit all levels of ability. A ride in the cable
cars offers breathtaking views over the
Silvretta mountain range. In addition to the
pistes there are also a six-metre-long natural
toboggan run and equally long, well-prepared winter hiking trails.

varied programme of events offering highclass entertainment is also close at hand. In
the past Melanie C, Udo Jürgens, the
‘Fantastischen Vier’, the Pussycat Dolls and
Elton John have all performed at concerts here,
and Paris Hilton celebrated her birthday at the
Hotel Madlein. The New Year is celebrated in
traditional fashion with a firework display, and
at the beginning of January, against the backdrop of the mountains, sculptors create metre-
