Commitment to Our Community
In 2012 Valiant Women made a bold commitment
to raise $1 million over the next five years and we
are positioned to not only meet that goal, but to
exceed it.
Valiant Women is dedicated to ensuring that women of all ages
receive high quality, compassionate health care. We do this by
supporting five critical areas:
• Mission Women’s Wellness Center
• Nursing Center of Excellence
• Nursing Scholarships
• Mission Breast Health Center
• Nursing Scholarship Endowment
Our commitment to these areas was recently highlighted in the Valiant
Women Impact Report which reflected gifts made from July 1, 2013 to
June 30, 2014.

When one finds a valiant woman her value is far beyond pearls…Proverbs 31:10-31
There are so many ways to share your time and talents with Mission Hospital through Valiant Women. Please
consider joining one of the Valiant Women Luncheon committees – centerpieces, silent auction or sponsorship –
or assist with membership outreach activities, communications projects or education programs.

2-Year Total

“My emphasis is in assisting each person in discovering their own
authentic self, allowing them a deeper understanding of themselves and
how they can now choose to be in charge of their lives, rather than their
lives being something that happens to them.”
– Dr. Zavala
Look forward to another wonderful program in October.

Supporting Nursing Excellence
Last year, 86 nurses from departments across the hospital applied for nursing scholarships.
Scholarships enable our nurses to receive advanced training through conferences and seminars or enhance their
knowledge through additional degrees and certifications. Based on the available resources, 68 scholarships were
awarded in the following categories:
•
•
•
•
29 Bachelor of Science in Nursing
10 Master of Science in Nursing
23 Educational Seminars or Certificate Programs
6 Emergency Room nurses attended a special
education training program
In 2013 Valiant Women further solidified its dedication
and support of nursing education by creating the Valiant
Women Nursing Scholarship Endowment. With this effort,
Valiant Women will forever contribute to the excellence in
nursing provided at Mission Hospital. The total value of the
endowment as of June 30, 2014 is $109,671.

Wall of Honor Supports Life Saving
Work at Mission Breast Health Services
Breast cancer patients and survivors, daughters, husbands, clinical
professionals, teens and preschool children are among the hundreds
of people who supported the 12th Annual “THINK PINK” Breast Health
Wall of Honor at the Shops at Mission Viejo during the month of
October in 2014.
With the leadership of Chair Mary Miyamoto and her committee, the Wall
of Honor raised more than $58,000 in net proceeds to support the women
of our community. Money raised at the event goes to support underserved
women in our community with diagnostic testing and treatment.
Title Sponsor Infiniti of Mission Viejo displayed a wrapped, hot pink
Infiniti QX80 near the Wall of Honor drawing much attention from
visitors. A display board encouraged visitors to use #breasthealth when
tweeting their photos with the car on social media.
Bright pink daisy decals led guests from the car to the Wall of Honor
which was filled with honor card messages of hope, love and joy.
Shoppers were encouraged to underwrite mammograms at $100 or
to celebrate a loved one with an honor card message for $25. Special
edition Power of Pink bracelets from Brighton Collectibles were
available for purchase, as well as hand-knit scarves from a cancer
survivors knitting support group at Mission Hospital.
Educational and fundraising events were hosted throughout the month
to support the Wall of Honor, including a trunk show at Marbella Country
Club, in-store events at Brighton Collectibles featuring genetic counselor
Sandra Brown and a tennis tournament called “Tennis and Tacos for Ta
Ta’s” presented by the Chang Family Foundation and Lululemon.
152 volunteers donated a total of
448 hours raising $58,000
Year after year Wall of Honor volunteers describe the warm wishes, gratitude
and touching stories shared by people who make donations. Valiant Women
is so appreciative of every dollar donated and every volunteer hour served.
Thank you for sharing your Spirit of Giving with Mission Hospital.
