Our Product Philosophy
Klaire Labs® specializes in the development of innovative probiotics, enzymes, and
other specialty nutraceuticals that can be used with confidence by individuals who
are hypersensitive to various foods and environmental agents.
Hypoallergenic Ingredients. All active and inactive ingredients
used in Klaire products are free of common allergens, including dairy,
wheat, soy, yeast, and gluten. No starch, maltodextrin, artificial
sweeteners, colors, flavors, salicylates, or preservatives are used in the
manufacturing process. When a flowing agent or base is needed, only
natural materials such as L-leucine, L-valine, and cellulose are used.

Probiotics
Probiotics are beneficial living microorganisms that support healthy
gastrointestinal and immune systems. Hundreds of diverse microbial
species, some essential for health, others pathogenic, inhabit or pass
through the gastrointestinal tract. In a healthy digestive system, these
microorganisms coexist in a balanced harmony.
Research has shown that diverse probiotic strains are able to inhibit the
growth and control populations of pathogenic microbes by competing
for nutrients and adhesion sites, producing anti-microbial compounds
such as organic acids, hydrogen peroxide and bacteriocins, and
stimulating the body’s own healthy immune responses. Probiotics have
been found to favorably modulate the immune system locally in the
bowel mucosa, distantly at mucosa surfaces throughout the body, and
systemically. Probiotic microorganisms maintain and strengthen intestinal
barrier function as well as regulate bowel motility. They promote normal
colonic blood flow, produce essential nutrients for the colon mucosa,
synthesize vitamin K and B vitamins, and facilitate nutrient and mineral
absorption, especially calcium, magnesium, and zinc. Probiotics degrade
and detoxify carcinogenic enzymes and other molecules as well as
hormones and drugs.
Probiotics have been clinically shown to support against respiratory and
skin allergies by virtue of their immune effects systemically and at
mucosal surfaces outside the bowel. Most strains effectively reduce
lactose intolerance and many can degrade endogenous opioids. An
emerging hypothesis suggests that probiotics may play an important,
complementary role in detoxification protocols.
The standard Western diet is deficient in the essential probiotics needed
to maintain health. Highly processed, canned, and frozen foods lack the
healthful microorganisms the body requires for a normally balanced
microflora. As a consequence, most people in North America and
Western Europe lack important probiotic bacteria normally found in
healthy people consuming a diet based on plants, fibers, fresh fruits, and
vegetables. In addition, the normal intestinal balance of microorganisms
can be disrupted by stress, disease, poor nutrition, toxins, and
medications, such as antibiotics, immunosuppressants, and gastric acid
inhibitors, resulting in intestinal and systemic health disturbances.

Ensuring the absence of dairy proteins in probiotic supplements is a difficult task, as
almost all commonly available probiotic materials are grown on dairy-containing media.

Raw Material Quarantine and Analysis
Probiotic organisms can suffer loss of potency during storage and transport. Thus,
all incoming probiotic raw materials are quarantined upon arrival and tested to verify
the activity and purity stated by our suppliers. Materials that do not meet specifications
are rejected. Materials that pass this certification procedure are maintained under
temperature and humidity controlled conditions at all times to ensure maximum viability
of the probiotic microorganisms.
Independent Finished Product Testing
To ensure that manufacturing and packaging processes do not adversely affect

Probiotic Real-time Viability
Real-time viability studies are essential to determining the long-term potency and shelf
life of probiotics. Probiotics cannot be subjected to accelerated stability testing because
increases in temperature and/or humidity are potentially lethal. Real-time stability testing
is time consuming and expensive. Products must be stored under recommended storage
conditions and tested at regular intervals to determine potency and stability. Klaire Labs®
studies its products not only at recommended storage conditions which are refrigerated
(39.2°F or 4°C), but also at room temperature (73.4°F or 23°C) and higher temperature
(86.0°F or 30°C). This yields more robust stability data for each probiotic formulation.

Significant numbers of probiotic bacteria can be destroyed by gastric acid and digestive
enzymes during their passage through the stomach. To help protect fragile bacteria,
Ther-Biotic® probiotic capsules and Ther-Biotic® Complete powder contain InTactic®,
an innovative acid-stable technology. InTactic®, a highly purified polysaccharide material
of marine plant origin, forms a gel-like matrix that surrounds and protects the probiotic

• L. rhamnosus increases colonic B. breve populations and promotes healthy bifidobacteria diversity

In general, it is highly recommended that

preserve their viability over time. Although

temperatures than high temperatures and
certain strains are more temperaturevulnerable than others. They should not be
subjected to high temperatures (over 80
degrees F) for prolonged periods of time.
However, stability tests have shown that
leaving probiotics out at room temperature
or even warm temperatures for a few days
or even a few weeks will only result in small
losses of organisms.

Saccharomyces boulardii is a non-pathogenic, transient yeast

When is the best time to take probiotics?

Specialized Enzymes Disrupt Biofilm Matrix that Embeds Potential Gastrointestinal Pathogens
Populations of microorganisms in the human gut are divided between
free-living planktonic microbes and colonizing sessile biofilm organisms.
Biofilm consists of microorganisms encased within a self-produced
matrix of exopolysaccharides and exoproteins that strongly adheres to
interfaces and resists dislodgement. Microorganisms residing within
biofilms are highly resistant to antimicrobials including antibiotics and
bacteriocins produced by probiotics. The biofilm of healthful commensal
microorganisms greatly contributes to intestinal barrier function and
colonization resistance. Disrupted healthful biofilm permits colonization
and biofilm formation by potential pathogens such as Klebsiella
pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans. Eradication of
pathogen-associated biofilm is critical to successful elimination of these
harmful organisms and restoration of healthful biofilm communities.
Biofilm Protects Potential Pathogens from Predation.
Biofilm is the preferred form of life for the vast majority of microorganisms.
Microbes residing within biofilms may consist of one or more species that
communicate and collaborate with one another in a heterogeneous
community. Biofilm formation appears to be initiated by contact with a
surface. It is a survival mechanism that triggers downregulation of genes
such as those mediating motility and growth as well as expression of
genes regulating synthesis of exopolysaccharides and exoproteins. The
presence of calcium, iron, and magnesium is essential for biofilm creation
and serves to cross-link the anionic regions of polymers.
Life within a biofilm confers significant survival advantages to bacteria
and yeasts. Biofilms strongly adhere to interfaces and resist
dislodgement. Biofilm formation may be viewed as an adaptive
mechanism that enables microbes to persist and reproduce in an
advantageous microecological niche. They are protected from predation
by phages and protozoa as well as from host immune responses.
Biofilm-residing microorganisms are highly resistant to the spectrum of
antimicrobials ranging from germicides and disinfectants to antibiotics
and bacteriocins produced by probiotics. Sessile biofilm microorganisms
are 100 to 1000 times more resistant to antibiotics compared to planktonic
forms of the same strain. Antibiotic resistance of biofilm-associated
organisms has been attributed to impaired antimicrobial penetration of
the biofilm matrix, reduced microbial growth rates, biofilm-induced
expression of resistance factors, and other biofilm-induced physiologic
changes that decrease susceptibility to antibiotics.
Gastrointestinal Biofilm – The Healthful and the Pathogenic.
The human gut is home to approximately 100 trillion microorganisms
consisting of unattached planktonic microbes residing in the lumen and
sessile biofilm organisms colonizing the mucosa and luminal particulate
matter. Among the more important species involved in gastrointestinal
biofilm formation are Bacteroides, Bifidobacterium, and Fusobacterium.
Fusobacterium species appear to play a key role in formation and
maintenance of healthy biofilm by forming coaggregation and
coadhesion bridges between early and late bacterial colonizers.
However, Fusobacterium, an anaerobic genus, can contribute to
pathogenic biofilms because it requires association with an aerobic
species in certain environments and hence promotes Streptococcus
mutans biofilm in dental plaque leading to caries and Helicobacter pylori
biofilm on the gastric mucosa associated with gastric ulcers. Potential
pathogens residing within biofilms rapidly express genes associated
with antimicrobial resistance and are protected from both cellular and
humoral immune responses. Successful eradication of pathogenassociated biofilm is critical to elimination of these harmful organisms.

(L-5-MTHF). Folic acid, a provitamin, must

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), complex
developmental disturbances typically
manifesting within the first three years of life,
are characterized by impaired communication

Connective tissue support with BioCell Collagen®.
BioCell Collagen® is a concentrated, natural source of bioavailable, hydrolyzed
collagen type II, chondroitin sulfate, and hyaluronic acid. A patented process produces
a low molecular weight mixture of components that are easily absorbed and readily
available for use in the body to protect connective tissues, promote cartilage synthesis,
support wound healing, and improve the overall appearance of the skin. Collagen type
II, the most abundant protein found in joint cartilage, helps promote new cartilage
synthesis and reduces oxidative damage to the joints. Hyaluronic acid is an important
nourishing agent that helps to retain the natural moisture content of skin tissue and joint
fluids. Chondroitin sulfate supports synthesis of cartilage tissue and inhibits cartilagedegrading enzymes. The addition of MSM®, a bioavailable form of dietary sulfur, and
Vitamin C to BioCell Collagen® produces a synergistic mix of natural compounds that
work together to maintain connective tissue health of joints, skin, and the cardiovascular
system. Two capsules twice daily supplies approximately 1,200 mg of collagen type II
protein, 400 mg of chondroitin sulfate, 200 mg
of hyaluronic acid, and 1,000 mg of MSM®.
