Italy: a Cultural Tour Take a tour of Italy’s beautiful, historic cities with photographer and travel guide Robyn Scott. Explore the architecture, art and history of three spectacular regions of Italy with Robyn. Family and Friends CPR Community Event Tuesday, May 10 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. FREE Learn the life-saving skills of adult hands-only CPR, child CPR with breaths, adult and child AED use, infant CPR and choking relief. Designed for parents, students, grandparents, and others who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card. Taught by NCMC coordinator of EMS, Jim Cousino. Biblical Archeology Thursdays, May 12, 19, and 26 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. $35/series of 3 classes Professor and archeologist Owen Chestnut will lead students on a historical tour of the Near East, focusing on archeological sites of Biblical significance, covering historical geography, archaeology in Israel, and recent archaeological finds in Jerusalem. Chestnut is an expert in Near Eastern history, has researched the region extensively, and has led digs in Israel and Jordan. Students will learn the first steps in bidding and card play. This class teaches basic hand-foot techniques, forms (Kata), empty-hand sparring and self-defense techniques. The practice of martial arts will improve your physical conditioning, endurance, self-confidence, discipline and concentration at work or school. From Convulsion to Caliphate: The Creation and Challenge of ISIS Each semester, North Central’s International Committee, in partnership with the Michigan Global Awareness Consortium, brings free international events to campus. Students and community members are welcome to attend all international events. What hurdles do we face in confronting this unique terrorist group? Since the summer of 2014, the world has watched as ISIS has grown. Presidential candidates are campaigning on their differing strategies to reduce the reach of ISIS. Dr. Scott LaDeur, political science instructor at North Central Michigan College, will lecture on the threat of ISIS and potential U.S. responses on March 24th. Dr. LaDeur has taught courses on terrorism at multiple institutions with one of them featured in the New York Times.
