Also picking up wins for the girls were Anna Kimbell
(400), Adelaide Ensor (1600), Taylor Moon (high jump),

and Joel Shelton picked up two wins apiece, to lead the boys. Tanner won the 100 and long jump. Joel swept both throws, taking the

(1600), Jacob Miller (triple jump) and John Bozell (pole vault),
each added victories for the Centurions.
Maddie O'Dea Shatters School Record
The Centurion track & field team competed in one of the biggest high
school meets in the country this weekend - competing in the Eastern Relays on the University of Louisville track. Placing in this meet takes performances that are among the best in the state. On the opening evening of
the 2-day meet, the Girls Distance Medley relay did just that, earning the
bronze in the fastest time in school history, with a time of 13:04.80. Maddie O'Dea gave the team the early lead in the 1200 meter leg. Freshman
Anna Kimbell and Jessica Bozell handled the 400 and 800 legs, to bring
the Centurions around in 4th place, handing the baton to Clara Lynch. Clara fought her way up into the 3rd
and then had to hold off several strong attempts at knocking the team out of the medals. The team had good
success in the medley relays, placing in four of the six held that
evening. Also placing was the 1600 Sprint Medley Relay team
of Tanner Reiser, Luke Montgomery, Tanner Palin and Steven
Ott. The girls made a scoring sweep of medleys, also placing in
the 800 (Kimbell, Bozell, Maya Wright and Laura English) and
1600 (Wright, English, Taylor Moon and Adelaide Ensor) Sprint
Medleys. The big news on day 2 of the meet came in the 800
meter run, where sophomore Maddie O'Dea chopped over 2 seconds off Hannah Herd's school record in an outstanding 2:19.97
time. Maddie placed 5th in the invitational event and 2nd among
Kentucky runners.
Joel Shelton placed 2nd in the open discus and 3rd in the open shot put. Sarah Chastain placed 3rd in the
open triple jump.
Junior Clara Lynch qualified for the Dream Mile this Friday at St. Xavier. The Dream Mile is a special annual event where only the top 16 milers in state are invited to run.

Ashley Semak had her biggest scor ing night
of the season with 3 goals and 3 assists, as did
sister Kaitlyn Semak who nailed 5 goals and an assist.
Sloan Reding added 5 points with 3 goals and 2 assists.
Nina Dobbs had 2 assists and a goal. Dana Joss led the
scoring with 8 points on 5 assists and 3 goals. Allison
Edlin made her fir st appear ance since being injur ed
earlier this year, a welcome sight on the field, and she
posted a goal and an assist in limited action. Morgan Miller, Jenna Ernst and Maddie Brock contr ibuted one
goal each. Morgan also caused two turnovers on the night!
On the defensive side, Maddie Brock had an amazing night with 6 ground ball pickups! Allie Head’s hustle
led to 3 ground balls, Sloan Reding chipped in 3 gb’s, and Peyton Kennedy had two for a big night. Mary
Scheiber added valuable minutes while collecting a dr aw contr ol and a gr ound ball. Paige Russell
nearly converted a free position shot on her first such attempt of the year. The outcome of this contest was
never in doubt as CAL led 10-1 at the half and cruised to the big win CAL 19 Collins 2.
CAL 18 Oldham County 5
CAL tallied their second dominating victory of the week with an 18-5 hammering of Oldham County Friday
evening. Just as in the Collins game, CAL controlled possession most of the contest, collecting two-thirds of
the center draws, picking up 20 ground balls and causing 7 turnovers while steamrolling to a huge first half
lead to shut the door on Oldham early. CAL also made 18 of 27 shots while posting 14 assists on the 18
makes. Goalie Lydia Clay had 2 saves on 10 shots against her. The girls exhibited excellent passing skills
all night, running weaves out front to confuse the defense, and consistently hitting open players in front of
goal or leading cutters running free for easy scores.

Some defensive highlights include Annie Becker’s
season high 6 ground balls and 1 caused turnover
(Annie was a for ce of natur e!), Kelsey Koetsier’s 4
ground balls and 1 caused turnover (Kelsey’s quick stick stymied Oldham in the early going), and Sydney Jarm’s 2
caused turnovers (Sydney is second on the team this year in
caused turnovers!). Allie Head played very solid defense,
thwarting several Oldham runs toward goal and picking up a
handful of loose balls to maintain CAL possession. Out of
the midfield, Nina Dobbs picked up two ground balls (Nina
had a strong game across both defense and offense). Dana
Joss had two gr ound balls and two caused tur nover s
(Dana leads the team in both categor ies). Ashley Semak was ever ywher e, snatching a game high 6
draw controls of her 12 taken, while Nina gathered 5 more and Dana chipped in 3. On offense it was an embarrassment of riches! Sloan Reding had a season high 4 goals from the attack position, and also added an
assist. She cut to open space effectively all night and was rewarded for the hustle with assist passes for goals
from several teammates. Ashley ripped for 3 goals and an assist to go with her center draw accolades. Allison Edlin had a stellar showing in light action for the second str aight game as she continues to wor k
her way back from injury. Allison played some at center and attack while scoring 2 goals. Nina snapped in
3 goals and Kaitlyn Semak tallied 2 assists and a goal for three big points each. Kaitlyn had perhaps the best
assist of the night in the first half, perfectly leading Dana streaking full speed at the goal inside the 8 meter
area for the score! Morgan Miller had her best all-around game of the season with two beautiful assist passes
to Sloan, 2 ground balls and a caused turnover! Morgan is clearly gaining confidence, comfort and ability on
the field. Dana had 4 goals and 7 assists to lead the scoring with 11 points; she repeatedly drew in the defense on moves toward goal and dumped off passes for easy scores. Maddie Brock continued to show flashes of brilliance, and her ability to play every field position; she motored around to score a goal and pick up a
ground ball.

CAL scored twice in the first inning to take a 2-0
lead. Blake Carlisle singled to centerfield to start the game
and then stole second base. Garrett McIntire singled to center with
Carlisle advancing to third and McIntire advancing to second base
when the return throw went through the infield. Paul Haupt reached
on an error to score Carlisle with McIntire advancing to third
base. McIntire later scored on Aaron Blake’s ground ball.
CAL scored four times in the second inning to stretch their lead to 60. Hunter Myers was hit by a pitch with one out and stole second base, advancing to third on an infield error. James Skaggs walked and stole second base. Myers scored on Blake Carlisle’s bunt single with Skaggs
scoring all the way from first base on the third baseman’s errant throw. Carlise raced to third base on the
play. One out later, Paul Haupt reached on another three-base error with Carlisle scoring. Haupt later
scored on a passed ball.
The third inning saw CAL score five runs, giving the Centurions a seemingly insurmountable 11-0 lead. Aaron Blake led off with a single to centerfield and then stole second base. Cameron Marshall lined a single to
right field to advance Blake to third. Blake scored and Marshall advanced to second base on an errant
throw. Casey Brown bunted for a hit with Marshall moving to third. Matthew Derridinger came in to run for
Brown. Marshall scored and Derridinger advanced to second base on a passed ball. Hunter Myers reached
on an infield hit and CAL then loaded the bases with no one out on a James Skaggs infield hit. Grant Harmon had an infield single to score Derridinger and Myers scored when Jacob Dupps reached on an error. CAL scored their 11th run of the game when Skaggs scored on an Austin Richardson ground ball.
Meanwhile, starting pitcher Luke Price and the CAL defense had not allowed a hit through the first three innings, but CAI erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning to pull within 11-7. CAL added an insurance run
in the fourth to make it 12-7. Cameron Marshall singled to start the inning and was sacrificed to second base
by Casey Brown. Hunter Myers was hit by a pitch for the second of three times in the game to reach
first. James Skaggs was walked to load the bases. Grant Harmon hit into a force play to score Marshall before Hilton Baumann lined sharply to left field to end the inning. CAI scored three more times in the fifth
inning to end the scoring with CAL securing the 12-10 victory.
CAL had 10 hits in the game, all singles. Blake Carlisle and Cameron Marshall both had two hits, while
Garrett McIntire, Aaron Blake, Casey Brown, Hunter Myers, James Skaggs, and Grant Harmon all had
one. Hunter Myers reached base four times in the game being hit with pitches on three different occasions in
addition to his single. CAL stole nine bases in the game. Luke Price had eight strikeouts in five innings as
the winning pitcher with relief help from Cameron Marshall. (continued on next page)

On Tuesday, CAL hosted district rival and 20th ranked Ballard, but fell short, 7-5. The loss dropped CAL’s district record to 1-1 for the season.
Ballard scored once in the second inning and three times in
the fourth to take a 4-0 lead before CAL struck for three runs
in the sixth. The inning began when Jonny Allen reached on
an error, but was forced out at second base by Blake Carlisle. Carlisle stole second base, before Garrett McIntire
walked, and Paul Haupt singled to load the bases. Luke
Price then cleared the bases with a double to right center field to close the gap to 4-3. Aaron Blake singled Price to
third and Dylan Sexton was later intentionally walked to load the bases before the CAL rally fizzled.
However, Ballard slugged a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 7-3 before CAL
attempted another comeback in the bottom of the inning. Jonny Allen again reached base to lead off the inning, this
time with a single to left field. One out later, Garrett McIntire singled to center with Allen stopping at second
base. Both runners scored when Luke Price doubled for the second time in the
game to cut the lead to 7-5 before the final out was recorded.
CAL had eight hits in the game—two doubles by Luke Price in conjunction with
his five runs batted in, two singles by Garrett McIntire, and singles by Blake Carlisle, Paul Haupt, Aaron Blake, and Jonny Allen. Four different Centurion pitchers
(Jonny Allen, Aaron Blake, Cameron Marshall, and Jacob Dupps) held Ballard to
only six hits in the loss.
On Friday night, CAL hosted 16th ranked Lexington Tates Creek in the Louisville Invitational Tournament (LIT) and
almost pulled off the upset. After overcoming a 2-0 deficit to take the lead, Tates Creek scored five runs in the top of
the seventh inning to defeat CAL, 7-4.
Tates Creek scored twice in the second inning to break out on top, 2-0. CAL scored three times in the bottom of the
fourth inning, to take a 3-2 lead.
CAL's scoring rally began when Luke Price singled with one out with Matthew
Derridinger entering the game to run. Aaron Blake walked with Derridinger moving to second base. Addison Skarski
then reached on an infield single with Derridinger scoring an error on the play with Blake advancing to third
base. Jonny Allen followed with a sacrifice fly to score Blake and Skarski moving to second. Skarski scored on a
Jacob Dupps single to give a CAL a 3-2 lead.
CAL added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Luke Price
singled for his third hit of the game and advanced to second base on a
passed ball. Price advanced to third base on an Aaron Blake ground ball
and scored on a wild pitch to give CAL a 4-2 lead. However, Tates Creek
scored five runs in the seventh inning, fourth of them coming with two outs
to prevail with a 7-4 victory.
Luke Price had three singles for CAL and Blake Carlisle, Addison Skarski,
and Jacob Dupps all had one apiece . Garrett McIntire pitched six strong
innings in the game for CAL with final out relief help from Addison Skarski.
CAL’s other two LIT games (versus 18th ranked Oldham County and 9th ranked North Bullitt) were both rained out on
Saturday. CAL’s record now stands at 13-11 on the season. CAL plays at Fern Creek on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
before playing their final district regular season game at Eastern at 5:00 on Tuesday. CAL will then host 12th ranked
Elizabethtown on Thursday at 5:30. CAL will play at 18th ranked Oldham County on Monday, May 9, at 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday night the Shamrocks of Trinity High School traveled to
700 S. English Station Road. The Centurion offense got off to a
fast start, moving the ball with military like precision and discipline. CAL was
quickly up 3-1 over the visiting Rocks. Trinity’s defense, however, adapted to
help quiet the big guns from CAL as their offense began to find their rhythm.
CAL 5; Trinity 13.
The final regular season game against
Tate’s Creek gave the Centurion faithful an opportunity to say thanks and recognize six senior athletes. Alex Tran, Tristan Scull, Larkin Mann, Jack Gilbert, David Franke and Holton Durenberger were honored during a Senior Night ceremony
at half-time. Each of these student athletes has played Centurion lacrosse since the
sixth grade and has contributed significantly to the growth of lacrosse at Christian
Academy of Louisville.
The game was a great win over the visiting Commodores from Tate’s Creek High
School in Lexington. The Centurions were hitting on all cylinders with leadership
from their six seniors. Defensemen Larkin Mann, Alex Tran and Tristen Scull lead
the team in “ground balls”, collectively scooping 14. Midfielder David Franke won
seven face-offs at the “X” to help keep the offense in business. These possessions
were not wasted as Seniors Holton Durenberger and Jack Gilbert along with junior
Cade Sparrow each dumped in three goals to lead CAL to a 15-5 victory.
Others contributing to the point total were senior defenseman Mann and sophomore Jackson Donovan with two goals
apiece and sophomore Caleb Anderson and freshman Kaden Weiter with one goal each.
Sophomore midfielder Dakota Lanham added five face-off wins to feed the offense and the defense worked well together to limit the number of shots taken by the Commodores. Of the shots attempted, sophomore goalie Andrew Barbour chalked up seven saves to hold their opponents’ score to five.
The team will now spend this week preparing for the District Tournament. As regular season District Champions, we
will enjoy a first round bye. Our next game will be Thursday May 12th against the winner between Eastern and KCD.
Please come out to support your Centurion varsity lacrosse team!

LADY CENTURIONS FACE #11 DAVIESS COUNTY
The Lady Centurions started the week at Sacred Heart. The game
started slowly, with a leadoff single by Sarah Ratterman, who was stranded, and
the Valkyries leaving a runner on base as well. Sacred Heart scored 1 in the 2nd.
It looked hopeful for the Centurions in the 5th, with CAL loading the bases on
singles by Sam Thompson and Riley Sexton and a double by Elizabeth Ashley,
but the Sacred Heart defense prevailed. In the 6th, CAL again rallied, and with
two outs, scored 3 runs when Hannah Howes singled, Thompson tripled, and
Ashley and Sexton singled. With the score 3-1, the Valkyries responded with 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th. Howes
singled again in the 7th but did not score. Final 7-3 Sacred Heart.
CAL traveled to Daviess County Friday to play a doubleheader against the #11 team in the
state. In the first game, the Centurions had Caroline Lefan and Thompson reach on singles
in the 2nd, but they did not score. The Panther bats were on fire, and Daviess Co. scored 8
runs. Kayla Chapman walked to lead off the 3rd and scored on an RBI-double by Ratterman, who also scored. Daviess Co. scored another 2 runs, bringing the score to 10-2. The
Centurions were unable to score more runs despite late hits by Sexton Loren Simpson
(double). Final score 12-2 Daviess Co.
CAL scored first in the second game against the Panthers after Simpson doubled, Lefan singled, and Thompson hit a sac fly. Daviess Co. matched them, making the score 2-2 after 1.
Hits by Ashton Edwards, Simpson, and Lefan were all stranded the next 2 innings. The Panthers scored 5 in the 4th,
going ahead 7-2. Ratterman and Simpson singled in the 5th but were left on base, while Daviess Co. added 2 more
runs. Edwards singled in the 6th but was unable to score, and the Panthers scored another run. In the 7th, Ratterman
doubled and scored. Final score 10-3 Daviess Co.
BIG WEEK AHEAD FOR THE MEN’S VARSITY TENNIS TEAM

ALLISON EDLIN SIGNS TO PLAY LACROSSE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS
Congratulations to senior Allison Edlin who signed a letter of
intent to play lacrosse at the University of Indianapolis.
“UIndy has the rare combination of everything I want out of college: it's
a medium-sized school in a big city with lots to do, the atmosphere on
the lacrosse team is a perfect mix of competition and fun, and they have
an excellent doctorate of Physical Therapy program,” said Edlin.
“I am so excited and proud of Allison’s accomplishments. I truly
believe the University of Indianapolis have won the lottery by getting Allison. She always wants to be pushed harder, which is a
coach’s dream. It has been a pleasure to coach her,” said CAL head
girls’ lacrosse coach, Sean Reding.
CAL head field hockey coach, Stanley Phulpagar, talked about how
Allison pushed him spiritually.
“Allison has inspired me to memorize more scripture. It’s been
amazing to see how much she loves God and loves others. My prayer is that she continues to seek God with
all of her heart,” said Coach Phulpagar.
Allison started playing lacrosse in the 6th grade and has been a varsity lacrosse player all 4 years of high
school. She has received the following awards for her lacrosse achievements: Academic All-State First
Team (2013, 2014, 2015) named to the U.S. Lacrosse All-Academic Team; 3rd District All-Tournament
Team (2013, 2014, 2015). Edlin was also
named MVP her freshman year and Most
Outstanding Mid-Fielder her sophomore
year.

CAL ALUM SARAH SON AND MILLIGAN QUALIFY FOR NATIONAL TOURNEY
For the second year in a row, the No. 16 Milligan College women's golf team won
the NAIA AAC Direct Qualifier, this time by outshooting SCAD Atlanta by three
strokes on round two at Callaway Gardens.
Milligan (309-312, 621) was tied with SCAD (309-315, 624) after day one and
trailed by several strokes at the turn but made a dramatic charge on the back nine to
storm back and win by three strokes. The back-nine charge was led by back-to-back
birdies by Cassidy Gibson and Ann Sullivan, and the rest of the team finished strong
down the stretch to bridge the gap.
Gibson (77-75, 152) and Sullivan (76-76, 152) made the all-tournament team and finished tied for the individual runner-up at the direct qualifier, which serves as the regional championship. Sarah Son (80-78, 158)
and Megan Gaylor (77-83, 160) finished eighth and 12th, and Kayland Boling (79-87, 166) took 19th as all
the Buffs finished in the top 20.
Gibson and Sullivan also earned spots on the Appalachian Athletic Conference All-Conference first team this
season, with Gibson running away with Player of the Year honors by 11 strokes (76-73-78-77-77-75, 456).
Sullivan, who was Player of the Year in 2014 as a freshman, was runner-up to Gibson, finishing with scores
of 78-76-83-78-76-76 (467). The Player of the Year is determined by the cumulative scoring of the AAC Fall
and Spring Championships as well as the direct qualifier.
Son and Gaylor were All-Conference second team, with Son six strokes away from a spot on the AllConference first team.
Head Coach Tony Wallingford earned AAC Coach of the Year after leading Milligan to five tournament victories this season, including three wins in the last four appearances.
With the regional championship, Milligan punched a ticket to the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship which is set to be played May 17-20 at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Georgia. Last season, Gaylor led the Buffs through round three, but Milligan missed the cut by one stroke and landed 18th in
the 27-team field.
Sarah Son is a 2015 CAL graduate.

CAL VS RAMSEY
This past Saturday, the 7th grade baseball team took on Ramsey
Middle School at Veteran’s Park. The Centurions came into the
game at .500 with 3 wins and 3 losses. CAL would be unable to
break the .500 barrier has they fell 8-4.

pick-off at third and quick pop-out. Then, CAL gave up 2 unearned runs
before getting the third out. CAL would get one run back in the bottom
of the inning when Jack Mauzy scored, but then gave up two more unearned in the top of the 2nd inning.
The Centurions would cut

no more. Ramsey added two more to make it 8-4.

DERBY DIAMOND DOWNPOUR
The CAL Middle School softball program sponsored the CAL
Inaugural Derby Diamond Invitational tournament this past
weekend. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate. The
tournament played 6 games including 3 games on Saturday
through the rain until the field was unable to take on any additional water. Special thanks to Kevin Manning for battling the
elements to keep the games going on Saturday through the
first 3 games. The CAL Varsity started the tournament with a
5-2 loss in a defensive battle against Shelby County. The CAL Varsity was leading
Frankfort Middle School team 3-2 in the 1st inning when the tournament was
called. Prior to the stoppage in play, CAL was ignited by Macie Howes’ inside the
park 2-run home run and Mia Beam’s triple. The CAL JV team showed great heart and teamwork in battling
to early leads in both their tournament games. CAL JV fell short 5 – 3 to Frankfort Middle School and 11 –
4 to Little Flock. The tournament was a great experience for all the teams and special thanks for Josh Howes
for his support as the tournament coordinator. Both CAL middle school teams will be closing out their regular season games and playing in the JCPS Middle School tournament this week.
ON WALDEN TRACK — MS TRACK & FIELD “JUMPED” FOR JOY!
Last week, CAL Middle School Athletes put the field in track and field with some impressive leaps and
bounds. Whether going long, high or throwing things, the team scored high in all field events.
Isaac Patrick spent 11 feet 7 inches in the air before touching down in the sand with 2nd among 6th graders
and 15th overall. Alyssa Jenkins also went long (10-0.675) taking 5th in the girls’ long jump. Sydney Porter
took the defiance of gravity vertical, rocketing four feet toward the sky to snatch 5th in the high jump.
Whitney Davenport and McKenna Middendorf then took their shots at the competition in the throwing
events. Davenport placed 2nd in the 6th grade shot put and 6th overall (20-04.) She also took 1st in the 6th
grade discus, 4th overall (52-03.) Middendorf grabbed 5th overall in the shot put with a throw of 51-01.
Fleet CAL feet kept the track sizzling throughout the evening. Gage Geren finished 4th in the 200m in 28.10
seconds. Tommy Ott placed 2nd in the 6th grade 800m and 7th overall in the fastest 2:43.69 of this Derby
season. Ott also ran 8th overall in the 1600 at 5:43:76. That is a sub-six-minute mile, folks—fast! While
awaiting official results from a more recent track event, featuring a 1600m parent/coaches run, the fastest
CAL parent could not break the 6 minute ceiling! Ott and Geren teamed up with Patrick and Jack Hester to
grab 4th in the 4x200m.
The girls exhibited a kick in their steps as well. Lucy Hamman, Sarah Sosnin, Jenkins and Porter teamed up
for a 5th place finish in the 4x100. Kaylee Wilson also glided across the track in the long distance
1600m. She finished 2nd overall with a time of 5:49.98. This is also faster than any time recorded for a
CAL parent this year.
These kids are a joy to watch jump, throw and scamper down the track. Trying to match the speed, effort
and agility gives a vivid impression to their abilities as they improve with each practice, week and meet! Go
CAL!

Margaret Autry, and Joe Zekoski for a superb year. Go CAL!
WINNING WEEK FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS/GIRLS GOLF TEAM
Christian Academy defeated East Oldham MS 183 to 220 last Thursday at Oldham
County Country Club. The Centurion players included Camdin Farmer (6th grade),
Aidan Foster (7th), Clay Hughes (8th), Grace Walker (7th) and Grant Wheeler (7th).
CAL ‘s Clay Hughes carded the overall low round for the match with a 4 over par
40 which included a birdie 3 on the par 4 seventh hole. Camdin played his personal
best round shooting a 46 highlighted by sinking a tricky 20-foot side hill putt. Way
to go Camdin! Grace shot a 46 with a chip-in to save par on the 6th hole. Grant’s
short game practice is paying dividends, as he rounded out the top four for the Centurions. Aidan displayed courage as he played through pain after being accidently
struck in the leg by an opponent’s golf ball!
The team is playing with confidence heading into a busy week with 2 matches
against South Oldham and North Oldham middle schools.

the bottom of the first inning. CAL scored once in the top of the second

on a wild pitch to cut the JCTMS lead to 2-1.
JCTMS scored once more in the third to stretch their lead to 3-1
before CAL tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning. Logan McNair walked to lead off the inning and advanced to third

to cut the lead to 3-2 and then CAL tied the game at 3-3 when
League scored on another wild pitch.
