Make the Most of Summer

Kids’ activities add up to lots of fun
LCP Summer Camps offer great options
LCP offers summer sports camps, travel
camps with exciting daily destinations,
overnight tent camp and a host
of other theme camps for
younger children ages:
3 & 4; 5&6 that will
ensure every child has a
great time.
If your kids are too young to be on
their own while you work, or you want
to provide them with a
lot of fun, enriching
activities this summer,
our full and half-day summer camps for
kids aged 3-13 years are a terrific alternative to leaving your kids with a sitter.
Be the Best Babysitter on your Block
School’s out, and what are you planning with your children this summer?
Are they old enough to stay home alone, or take care of smaller siblings
or other children? LCP’s Babysitting Course is the first Friday
of summer vacation, June 13th, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
where “tweens” learn or refine their babysitting
skills.
Kids 11 and older should bring a packed
lunch as well as a baby doll or stuffed animal so
we can practice diapering. Babysitting
is a great way to earn summer
spending money. Cost $50 per participant;
registration required by June 6th.

pong ball blow, water balloon toss and wheel
of fortune. There will also be lots of time for
swimming and floating fun, too. To cap off
the festivities, Santa will make an appearance
to light the underwater Christmas tree. Pizza
and drinks will be provided. The party is

Plenty going on at the pool
Swim for the Gold for LifeCenter Plus!
Summer 2008 is an Olympic year, of course, and this summer the LifeCenter Plus
Stingrays will have its own exciting swim competitions. For the first time, LifeCenter Plus is
competing in the Akron Metropolitan Swim Association, swimming against local teams with a
long tradition of spirited competition.
The Stingrays swim team still has places for a few good swimmers ages 4-18. Swim team
practice will help you learn strokes, skills, techniques and the rules, which you will use in competition. Swim team fun includes great exercise, making good friends, enjoying a special splash
party and recognition for your swimming skills at the annual awards banquet. The season
starts June 9th, so don’t delay. Sign up with Aquatics Director Jim Clark at extension 125.
Get In-Synch Music to swim by
Special Offering—
Scuba Science!
It’s not the boy band music of the 90’s. It’s a whole new way to move in the water.
LifeCenter Plus offers Adult Synchronized Swimming class on Fridays at 11 a.m., starting June
16th. Synchronized swimming incorporates elements of ballet, gymnastics and swimming choreographed to music—it’s as much art as athletics.
The only requirement for participants is that they must be able to swim the length of the
pool and float on their backs. Synchronized Swimming is featured in the Olympics, and it’s
great for building stamina, coordination and balance. Best of all, it makes a spectacular display
for an audience, so those with a bit of “ham” are the best candidates.
The Adult Synchronized Swimmers will strut their stuff in two shows. The Exhibition
Show will be featured during the July 16th Poolside Member Happy Hour. The Grand Finale
Show is August 9th at 7:30 p.m.
Get in the swim, and display your inner performer. Free for members; $42 for non-members. Pre-registration is necessary with code 3123-6591.
Monday-Friday,
July 28-August 8
For the first time, LifeCenter Plus is
offering Scuba Science and Skills, a half-day
camp for kids 11 years and older. You won’t
believe how much fun science, math, physics
and physiology can be until you use them to
explore the underwater world. In this twoweek special session our own NAUI instructor
Aquatics Director Jim Clark will teach the
skills, theory and practice that will unlock the
secrets of scuba exploration.
Those who successfully pass the written
and practical tests at the conclusion of the
course will qualify to take an open water
check-out dive! Students must have acceptable scuba quality mask, fins, snorkel and
dive boots for the first class. There is a
mandatory parent/participant meeting on
July 23 at 7:30 p.m. To avoid purchasing
unacceptable gear, please wait until after
the informational meeting. Contact
Aquatics Director Jim Clark for details, fees
and registration information.
Girls Synchronized Swim Team
Don’t let the grown-ups have all the fun . . . girls ages 5-17 can sign up for a recognized
Olympic sport that is as much “show-biz” as it is athletic—Synchronized Swimming. This
graceful mixture of gymnastics, ballet and swimming combine into group choreography that
displays beautiful, exacting patterns in the water. Synchronized Swimming is fun; it improves
swimming skills; and it gives team members the opportunity to perform in two shows—the July
16th Exhibition Show during Members Poolside Happy Hour and the Grand Finale on August
9th. For more information contact Aquatics Director Jim Clark at extension 125.
