ELK GROVE HIGH SCHOOL
Campus Portal for Parents and Students
The Portal web address https://ic.d214.org/campus/portal/township_214.jsp.
Image 1: Campus Parent Portal
11
Accessing the Portal
The Portal can be accessed by parents of enrolled students. Parents will see all children in their
household, or students that are related. Students can also be given access to the Portal, but
they will only be able to access their own information.
12
Access to the Campus Portal
Accessibility to various screens described in this guide is determined by the school or district. Access for
one school or building may vary from access for another school within the same district. Some tabs and
features may not be available for some users.
The following provides a summary of the areas that may be visible, depending on the district. Some areas
may not be available.
The Portal is also available as an app for Android, iPhones, iPads and iPad Touch devices. Select the
appropriate application button from the Portal Family Messages page to download the app and view
student grades, attendance and assignments.
Navigating the Campus Portal
Once logged in, an index of accessible information for the household as a whole is listed in the navigation
pane located on the left hand side of the screen. Sign Out and Home buttons appear in the top right
corner of the screen, with the Name of the individual logged into the Portal appearing next to these
buttons. Clicking the Home button will take the user back to the homepage seen upon signing in. This
page contains the Family and User Account sections of the navigation pane. When a user first logs in the
Messages tab located in the Family section is selected.
Use the Select Student drop down in the top left of the screen to view all of the students a user has
rights to view and select a student to view Portal information for that student only. Only students with an
enrollment in the current year or an enrollment next year will display in the list.
13
Students can be enrolled in multiple calendars or schools. When this is the case, another dropdown
menu will indicate which enrollment information is currently being viewed and will allow the user to view
the information from other enrollments in the current year.
When signed in as a parent, the Family and User Account navigation panes appear on the left side of
the screen. When a student is selected in the Select Student option, an information section specific to
that student will appear above the Family section in the navigation pane. The tabs in the Family section
apply to all students to which that user has rights. For example, when accessing the Calendar tab from
the Family section, a calendar will display assignments, day events and attendance for all of the students,
whereas when accessing the Calendar tab from the student section, only information specific to that
student will appear on the calendar.
External links, located at the bottom of the navigation panes, often lead to school or district websites and
open in a separate browser window to increase the security of the Campus Portal.
14
If you select User Account you can update your email and preferences for portal notifications.
15
Portal Languages
The Portal is available in four languages:
English
Spanish
Simplified Chinese
Traditional Chinese
Users can select which option best fits their needs by clicking on the hyperlink of the preferred language
on the sign-in page or at the bottom of the Campus Portal after logging in. Selecting a language will
display all navigation tab labels and non-student/school specific content into the chosen language.
Custom tabs are not translated.
16
Creating Portal Accounts for Parents
Parents may need assistance creating their Portal accounts. If a parent has not created an account do
the following:
Go to the Search tab and the Household dropdown
Enter the name of the parent and click Go. Locate the correct household and click on the appropriate
guardian.
On the Demographic tab you will see the following information.
17
Locate the Person GUID
You can then go to the Parent Portal for Infinite Campus
https://ic.d214.org/campus/portal/township_214.jsp
18
Click on the Help button then choose the option below
If you have been assigned a Campus Portal Activation Key, click here
Enter the Person GUID from Infinite Campus from the previous step and click Submit.
19
Allow the parent to enter a username and password and click Create Account.
The following screen will be displayed and the parent will be able to access the Parent Portal.
If an error occurs you will want to check to see if an account had been previously created and use the
“Changing Passwords for Parents” procedures.
20
Changing Passwords for Parents
Parents may call and ask that their password be reset. Here are the steps for Portal accounts that have
already been created and need a password reset.
Go to the Search tab and the User dropdown
Enter the name of the parent and click Go.
You should see the Parent / Guardian name and then a username which is in bold.
Click on the Username in bold. Change the password to “parent” and check the box “Force Password
Change” then click the Save button.
Let the parent know their new password is “parent” and that they will be prompted to change their
password when they log in again.
21
Campus Mobile Portal for Parents and Students
Parents and students can now access their Campus Portal information on Android and iOS devices using
the Campus Mobile Portal app.

Refreshing Data



A manual refresh of data can be done by selecting the refresh button in the upper left corner of the
screen (Android) or bottom left corner in the menu (iOS) while connected to a network.
For iOS users, updates occur automatically every 15 minutes when you are logged into the app. If you
close the app or are not logged into the app, there is no refresh that occurs and notifications are not
sent.
For Android users, a manual refresh is required, or log out of the app and log back in.

Data Storage
Data is stored on your device. The data you see in the app is stored locally on your device for offline
use. When you log out of the app, data is removed. It is recommended a password or other form of
security to access your device is used.
28

iPad FAQs:
1. Will my son/daughter be able to keep their iPads over the summer?
This is still something that is being determined at the district level. As soon as we have more
information, we will be sure to message that to students and parents.
2. Will the iPad be used in all of my child’s classes?
We are currently still in a pilot phase with the iPads. There are a group of teachers that have
committed to using iPads in the classroom, and there are various phases of implementation.
3. What are the rules for iPad use in the classroom?
The “top ten rules” for classroom iPad use are listed below.
4. I do not have internet access at home, how can my son/daughter complete homework?
*School is open at 7:00 am and there is tutoring available after school in the Mastery Lab
Monday-Thursday until 6:00 pm, and wi-fi is available at this time.
*Free wi-fi is available at many local establishments, including the public library.
* We now have a Digital Connections partnership program between D214 and Comcast/Sprint for
low-income families. Applications are available in the Main Office.
5. What are the common apps/websites that my child will be using?
This is very teacher/course specific, however, some commonly used apps/websites in the
classroom include:
Evernote, Notability, Schoology, Moodle, Safari, YouTube, Puffin (for use when a website uses
Adobe Flash - some textbooks require this), and Infinite Campus. Teachers will provide more
specific websites and apps during the first week of school and at Open House.
6. How can I control how much my child is playing games or using social media on their
iPad?
Parents set the rules in your own home. Some parents have found it helpful to designate a
specific space in the house where the iPad is permitted to be used. Others have set passwords
on their wi-fi and only enter the code when students need access for school reasons. We also
encourage conversation about time management, distractions, and managing life in a connected
society.
7. Why do we give complete access to the iPads?
One of our goals is to prepare students to make good decisions and successfully manage living in
a connected world. Guidance at school and at home can prepare them for life’s challenges.
Instead of taking the approach that we filter and restrict their access, we are striving to help them
make educated, informed decisions about their digital footprint.
8. What happens if my child breaks his/her iPad?
The district has offered a protection plan for $30. The protection plan can still be purchased.
Your child, however, will need to have the iPad inspected before we can issue the policy. They
can then pay for the protection plan in the Main Office with check or cash.

iPad TOP TEN List
of Guidelines for Students
Beyond the acceptable use policy, the following is a set of guidelines for iPad use at EGHS. Since the
iPads are the property of District 214, all school officials have the right to review all material stored on
or accessed by any iPad. Access to your iPad may be revoked for misuse or violation of policies or the
Acceptable Use Policy.
1. I will come to school everyday with the iPad fully charged.
If you leave your iPad at home, you are responsible for getting the course work completed.
Loaner iPads will not be available.
2. I understand the iPad may not always be used in class at all times for every activity. I will listen to
my teacher for when iPads should be on my desk for use or in my backpack for safekeeping.
3. I will be on task in class, working only on those sites/apps to which I am assigned.
4. I will make sure to treat the iPad with respect.
I WILL:
*keep it clean
*keep it out of extreme temperatures
*keep it away from food and drink
*keep it safe and secure
5. I will install new updates as they become available to keep the device’s apps up-to-date.
6. I will have all necessary apps for each of my classes downloaded on the iPad.
7. I will be expected to back up all work on my iPad.
8. I will keep the first screen on my iPad limited to educational apps and shortcuts.
9. I will use my iPad as a Learning Device.
*I will make sure all media stored on my iPad is for educational use.
*I will not text/message or play unapproved games during instructional time.
10. I pledge to be a Digital Citizen and:
*Communicate responsibly and kindly
*Protect my own and others’ private information online
*Stand up to Cyberbullying
*Respect each others’ ideas and opinions
*Give proper credit when we use others’ work
