FIVE AM is a Belgian based design studio, specialised in creating concepts ranging from interiors, temporary installations to product design.
By keeping our focus on simplicity during the entire design process, each concept obtains its own unique and recognisable image.
This approach resulted in international awards and recognition by Design Vlaanderen.

When the going gets tough, seemingly impossible challenges can
actually lead to surprising results. Printing firm Drukta and mailing
company Formail approached us with a limited budget, but with lots of ideas.
This open mind actually was the foundation for these offices, installed in used
shipping containers. One of the main requirements was to stimulate interaction
between the offices and the work floor, which also had to be experienced by
visiting clients and suppliers. Encapsulating the containers in the existing building,
results in a perfect interaction and creates a unique experience for each visitor.

This concept is the winner of a POM-West Vlaanderen design competition.
Participants had to design a large empty space (+- 900 m2), a kind of atrium surrounded by offices. “Suivez-le-guide” really goes outside the box when it comes to office
furniture, redefining the conventional ways of working and communication. By opting
for new ways to align the volumes, the user is able to constantly create other functions.

The Crombé winehouse shop concept’s goal was to have the customers experience
a completely new way of shopping. The basic idea was to start from the look and feel
of a warehouse, to which subsequently we added light and finesse. Even though the
wines are being presented in their original packaging, the clean lines of the metal
frames still ensure familiarity and perspective. Every bottle hangs in the frame in the
identical inclination the sommelier would serve them in. The 12 m rack houses the
champagnes and lockers. Per locker, clients can safely store up to 30 bottles, using
their own, personal key. These lockers can be reached via a transparent gangway at a
height of 3.5 m. In the Bordeaux area, 2 pop-up stores have been installed, made out
of perforated metal, creating an airy space which appeals to each customer. The spirits
aisle was given a totally different atmosphere. We used wooden slats, fixed together.
The openings between the slats invite the customer to have a look around the corner.

To create an airy and nice place to work, without any excesses, for the finance and
accountancy department: that was our task. As to not get trapped in the conventional office set-up, we decided to create a square-like atmosphere, by surrounding the space with houses. These houses in fact act as storage space, meeting
room, archive etc. By fully respecting the white interior, the warm contrast between
the carpet flooring and the oak of the doors and cabinets is truly enhanced.

This brainstorm box, completely made out of OSB, was designed as a work space
for young starting businesses. Since this building is on a busy shopping street,
the design also had to serve as a showcase for these budding entrepreneurs.
This piece of furniture, a customised design for this project, is a meeting table
come seat. By mixing around the different set-up possibilities, the brainstorm
box can easily be transformed into a space for meetings, lectures, receptions etc.

We started sketching with only one thing in mind; ‘The craftmanship of a Locksmith deserves to be seen.’ This concept creates a brand-identity for a very diverse
profession. A few key-decisions allowed us to deliver a clear image for the customer.
Through the use of a sober material-palette, each item in the shop gets its deserved attention. The demo-doors are set centrally within the shop to show you what a lock can do.
The passage-way to the workshop and the integrated section ‘lock-crafting’ provides
a close personal experience for the customer. Due to the use of roll-containers, instead
of fixed displays, the shop preserves its flexibility for product-features, lecture, etc.

the hair project
The fair Hairstyle needed a makeover. To add some more rock & roll to the event,
the concept got a new design & name : The Hair Project. Instead of keeping the
familiar grid pattern we chose to guide the visitor along a path through the exhibition. To easily tune the formation started from a hexagon with fixed size. By this design decision we only needed one type of wall construction to create the entire event.
Although the booths have a fixed structure, flexibility was obtained by finishing the
walls with a solid plate or cloth. As a link to the hairdresser, the back of the walls got
a mirror foil finishing. To put the craftsmanship in the spotlight brandboxes and hubs
with demonstrations were seamlessly interwoven. The big catwalk that connects the
different clusters of brand boxes, offers shows & catwalks to the more than 10 000 visitors.

Through the design of the reception room of Omega Pharma, we wanted to
give a subtle hint to the roots of the company. The fine white steel structure
refers to a chemist’s closet and serves, besides a flexible platform for product
presentation, as a light buffer between the reception and the non-public passage
behind. The duality in this area is highlighted by the contrast between materials and
colors. In front the reception with it’s pure white color and reflection, in the back
muted green by using a fibre bonded floor covering on the floor, wall and furniture.

The aim: to attract as much attention at the fare with the smallest possible budget. That’s when you’re talking visual impact! At the company networking fair (‘Bedrijvencontactdagen’) in Kortrijk, over 1,000 flower pots in 3 different sizes created an attention grabbing stand. Passers-by
really stopped, which gave us a chance to properly introduce ourselves.

Designing a bedroom suite with attention for sense of space, without losing the privacy
of the users.The result is a central isle, with low walls, where the bathroom is located. The
entire bathroom was produced in ‘solid surface’, which ensures seamless surfaces. The
sidewall can unfold which makes interaction between sleeping and bathing possible.

What is produced by Beaulieu leaves their factory mainly on roll. The iconic image of
these roles is translated into tangible elements in the marketing office. The rolls, each
with their own specific function, ensure a playful division of the 350 m2 big space.

How do 10 Hall Chairs, designed by Jasper Morrison, travel to Kortrijk ? The
line-up gives the visitor a view on the itinerary the chairs took to get from the
Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein to Kortrijk. Each chair receives his own unique
cap, which has a cut-out according to the real height of the city it’s passing by.

Using old techniques for contemporary floor and wall coverings requires knowledge
and craftmanship. Without specific reference to existing applications, visitors
experience the possibilities that the product range offers for their unique desires. The
Interieur14 booth of Odilon Creations brings their workshop and know-how to the fair.

#dojowheels is a mobile training facility or dojo as a working tool, which
is a perfect reflection of our vision on working (together). It can easily
change its setup to offer the user the most pratique surrounding. The flat
surface acts as a bed, couch and table with storage available underneath.

This dynamic Pop-Up for Bariseau Mottrie ensures customer service and continuity
during the construction of their new showroom. The two office containers
provide the necessary comfort and privacy during car sale conversations, while
the container on top was playfully conceived as a ’matchbox’. Clearly visible
from the street, the entire installation serves as a backdrop for showcasing cars.
Thanks to plug and play electrical connections and respecting container
standards this Pop-Up can be moved in no time to re-use in other locations.

Like a kid in a chocolate shop, in the shop Galler you take only good things
from the tray. This feeling along with values such as generosity, hospitality and
surprise were translated into a playful pattern in a warm oak, pierced with their
fresh house colours. The wood pattern is the base from which was designed,
on the walls (hidden) drawers and ceiling alcoves with lighting and concealed
air conditioning. Where a tray normally performs one function, we have
provided here for three presentation formats: in, on and hanging under the tray.

Just as a seed grows into a beautiful plant, ideas need good soil to grow into a
good design. ‘Week van het Ontwerpen’ puts the best student projects under
the lamp to explain the public know its growth and learning process. We add the
link by building major growth cabinets, where each design gets its unique place.
