The Bottom Line…
The Book Corner
January Receivings: $31,138.62
Reading Program Highlight: Book Signing with
Best Selling Author Bryan Stevenson. Attorney Bryan Stevenson began representing Walter McMillian in the late
1980s when McMillian was on death row for killing a young
white woman in Monroeville, Alabama, the hometown of
Harper Lee, author of "To Kill a Mockingbird." After that trial,
Stevenson wrote Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption, which is featured in this year's UMW reading program and is available in the Chapel Library. This is a powerful true story about the potential for mercy to redeem us
and a call to fix our broken system of justice. Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice
Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most
desperate and in need -- the poor, the wrongly condemned
and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of
our criminal justice system.

On March 6th, we will celebrate
One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS)
This is a crucial Sunday for us because it is the day
we come together to empower our disaster relief
arm of Global Ministries, UMCOR, for an entire year.
If you remember,
• When tornadoes hit Mississippi, UMCOR was
there.
• When fires ravaged thousands of homes,
UMCOR was there.
• When Syrian refugees needed help, UMCOR
was there.
• When a typhoon in the Philippines displaced
tens of thousands of people, UMCOR was
there.
• When an earthquake and a tsunami decimated villages in Japan, UMCOR was there.
Mr. Stevenson will be sharing his experiences followed by a
panel discussion and book signing on Wednesday, March 9
at 1:30 p.m. at the downtown campus of the Milwaukee Area
Technical College Cooley Auditorium, 1015 North Sixth
Street, in Milwaukee. If you have questions, you may call
414-297-6365 or email [email protected].
**************************************************************
To my church friends and family - thank
you for your support, prayers and all you
do for me.
Laverne Fiscus
They were there because of One Great Hour of Sharing.
This One Great Hour of Sharing covers the operating
costs of UMCOR, which allows UMCOR to be where it
needs to be, when it needs to be there, for as long
as it needs to be there ... and allows UMCOR to funnel earmarked donations directly to the designated project.

RICH RUBIETTA TO LEAD WORSHIP MARCH 13TH!
One word. One song. One life at a time…Making a Difference
for Christ….Abounding Ministries
Rev. Rich Rubietta is a modern-day circuit rider and Conference Evangelist for the United
Methodist Church. Appointed to Abounding Ministries, a 501(c)3, Rich, Jane and Josh now
crisscross the Midwest each week, introducing creative uses of music in Worship, School Assemblies, Workshops, Youth events and Retreats. He has been in worship at FUMC before; some of you may
remember him! What an awesome service! Please invite friends and neighbors to this wonderful morning of
worship!
Rich is a “Musician-ary,” helping congregations redevelop and rediscover their voice in worship. Whereas
Rich pastored congregations for 14 years (rural Freeport, Morris, Joliet and Grayslake), he now views the General Conference as his congregation, much like the early circuit riders. “We are part of Pastor Rich’s congregation!” The Conference Evangelist appointment is NOT a conference staff position, and provides no salary or
benefits, so AM is financed through support from individuals and churches where services are offered. Love
offering checks can be written to Abounding Ministries.
Jane is an internationally known speaker and the author of 16 books. Quiet Places has helped 30,000 readers to date and was part of the UMW Recommended Reading List. With animation, humor, and compassion,
Jane ministers with churches, women’s groups, conferences, retreats, and clergy care. Her award-winning
books include Resting Place, Grace Points, and Quiet Places. Come Closer: for Life, Love, and Breakfast on
the Beach released in 2007 to critical acclaim.
Pastor Rich has released 4 CDs, including award-winning Room 4U & Me for children and the young at heart.
His CDs and Jane’s Books are available on that Sunday at the Resource Table -credit card, check or cash.
For more information, please visit UMCalive.com, www.JaneRubietta.com or call 847. 292. 1418
Women’s Retreat
WHEN: April 15-17th at Pine Lake United Methodist Camp in Westfield, WI
COST: $65 per person (let us know if cost is an issue…don’t let that stop you from coming!)
Our speaker this year is Kimara Ellefson. Kimara is a speaker and trainer with a passion for encouraging
and inspiring people to go deeper in their faith journey. Her life motto of “Choose adventure,” has taken her
many places around the world to include Africa, Brazil and Mexico sharing the grace and love of Jesus. Kimara works at a major healthcare organization in Milwaukee, loves the theater, is rarely found without a book,
and enjoys doing life with Chad, her best friend and husband of 17 years. Kimara also serves as a member
of the teaching team at Northbrook Church and many of her messages can be found at northbrookchurch.org.
Registration will begin on March 6th. Please consider joining us for this meaningful, relaxing and inspiring
weekend! Bring a friend, sister, co-worker!

From the Haiti Team
We were overwhelmed with the amazing support of
our Chicken Dumpling Soup fundraiser.
We want to thank all those who attended or purchased soup, in support of our mission trip to Haiti.
We were able to raise enough money with our
luncheon and the donation from the Endowment
Board, to pay for all of our materials that will be
used at the site.
The generosity and love of our fellow Christians
around the world is thriving at First United Methodist Church. It is with your support that we can go out
into the world and share God’s love.

EXPLOIT NO MORE NEWS FROM THE DIRECTOR
Dear ENM Partners,
I’m writing with some exciting news about Exploit No More’s progress in developing our residential aftercare program. We’re close to securing a house and are working with local aldermen to ensure the location’s success. While the location will remain confidential for safety
reasons, we invite you pray with us and share the good news during this exciting time!
As many of you know, ENM’s mission is three-fold. Beyond supporting survivors, we work to dismantle Milwaukee’s sex trade through
training and legislative change. Since 2013, we’ve trained over 580 service providers, doctors, hotel managers and police officers to
bring greater awareness to the frontlines. We’ve also worked with lawmakers to advocate for stronger legislation and fight the systemic
drivers of exploitation.
With so many exciting milestones at ENM, I’m also writing to share some bittersweet news. My husband, Nate, recently accepted a promotion with his company in Irvine, CA. This means I’ll be transitioning out of my role as the Executive Director and relocating to Southern
California. While Nate and I are excited for the adventure that lies ahead (and warmer weather!), we’re sad to be leaving Milwaukee. As
many of you know, Nate has been a champion and steadfast volunteer for ENM since our early days as an organization.
I will remain on staff with Exploit No More through the end of March to help our Board of Directors identify a top leader in this next exciting
phase of growth. I’ll also return in late spring to ensure a smooth transition. If someone you know might be a strong fit to spearhead our
mission, please share the job description found on our website.
I’m so proud of the training we’ve done, the relationships we’ve built with key service providers and law enforcement, and the foundation
we’ve laid for top-quality aftercare program in just two short years. We couldn’t have done it without your support and are deeply grateful
for your commitment to ending child sex trafficking in Milwaukee.
With gratitude,
Katie Linn ,Executive Director, Exploit No More

YOUTH GROUP NEWS!
First of all, I’d like to say thank you to everyone that joined in the fun at Culver’s on
January 25th. Together we purchased $1480 in food and custard. This provided
the youth group with $148 as part of the fundraiser. Culver’s wants us to do it
again and from what I heard so does the congregation.
CHAOS and Riptide had a fun and busy February. We started the month with our
service project on Saturday February 6th by offering a free meal for the FUMC Summerfield church in Milwaukee. Several youth and parents helped make
over 80 sandwiches and bags of cookies to be handed out at Summerfield. Then a group headed to Summerfield to serve Beef Stew, fruit salad, bread, sandwiches and cookies. Thank you to Dina Lane for preparing the stew.
Pastor ‘G’ at Summerfield had a very wonderful viewpoint. She believes
that food is a powerful ministry opportunity. She reminded us that Jesus
is often surrounded by meal gatherings in the New Testament.
Continuing on the food theme, on Valentine's Day the youth group hosted
our second pancake breakfast. It was so wonderful to see all the fellowship with the congregation. I enjoy seeing the
youth active in feeding our church family. Thank you to all the wonderful donations, between flower sales and pancake donations the congregation provided $750.89 to the youth group.
Later that night we had a ‘hang out’ youth group. Typically, we have activities planned and keep the youth busy. After
all the hard work of feeding everyone pancakes, we just had fellowship. We played games, ping pong, and just had a
good time.
On Saturday February 20th, several leaders took place in a one day Youth Group Leadership Conference in Green
Bay. This conference titled ‘Recharge’ was properly named to energize the youth leaders with workshops and speakers.
We finished off the month with Riptide having their lock in night on February 26th. During this lock in, the youth group
planned the service for Youth Sunday on February 28th. After the service, we hosted the chili luncheon and the pie
auction. Thank you to everyone that helps support the youth mission work by purchasing pies.
As always the youth are encouraged to bring a friend to any of our events.
If you are in 6th grade or above and are interested in being a part of this great group, please join us for these upcoming actives. Please check the announcements and bulletin board for times! Starting in May, any 5th graders are invited to join in Youth Group events to get a taste for next year.
