Welcome to SHARE in Anaheim!
Welcome to SHARE in Anaheim! Much
has been happening in the industry this
year, and we are pleased to bring you a
week filled with best practices and
top-of-mind technical content from the
best in enterprise IT. SHARE is offering a
broad range of technical sessions
throughout the week covering Big Data –
Big Analytics, Cloud in the Enterprise, Data Center
Modernization, Responsibly Architected Application
Solutions, the Dark Side of Virtualization and more. Be sure
to visit the SHARE Technology Exchange Expo to see the
zEnterprise 114, zBX and a host of exhibitors highlighting
hardware and software solutions.
While SHARE offers hundreds of sessions around enterprise IT,
first, and foremost, SHARE is a community of IT professionals.
To get optimal benefit from your time this week, make the
effort to engage with others here in Anaheim. Find others who
have the same problems that you do, or perhaps find someone
who has already done what you are planning to do. This week,
you have the opportunity to take full advantage of the SHARE
community - some of today’s brightest minds in enterprise IT.
I encourage you to take every occasion to connect and share
information with your fellow IT professionals.
In addition to the connections to be made this week, we have
hundreds of great speakers covering a wide range of topics
including two engaging keynotes. We are excited to have Jason
Dorsey, renowned expert on multi-generational issues who
leads off our keynotes with Crossing the Generational Divide, a
discussion on how to lead, communicate and innovate across
generations. We now have four generations in the workplace
and each brings different strengths, values and priorities to
the table. These differences can be a costly challenge or a
powerful opportunity. On Tuesday morning, Brian Gallagher,
President, Enterprise Storage Division at EMC will address
industry trends in Cloud and Big Data Driving IT Transformation.
Brian will share his views of the transformational changes and
challenges affecting IT organizations and how enterprises and
IT professionals need to respond.
SHARE is not just about sitting in lectures all day long.
Take the opportunity for some informal discussions. Meet
at the receptions for a snack and a drink. Form a dinner
group and take advantage of the great dining venues nearby.
With the combined options offered by Downtown Disney,
the Disneyland® Resort hotels and the Anaheim Garden
Walk, there are literally dozens of restaurants within walking
distance or a short ride on a shuttle bus.
In Anaheim, we will be offering SHARE Live! for your
colleagues who are back at the office and were not able
to join us in Anaheim. They can view SHARE sessions
broadcast live via webinar. It’s not too late to register. For
a low fee and no travel or time out of the office, they can
participate virtually in several SHARE sessions.
This Onsite Guide is here to help you plan your week and
to ensure that you do not miss a thing! In this Guide we
highlight Areas of Interest to help you identify sessions
that you might find interesting. These Areas of Interest
reflect job roles like: z/OS Systems Programmers and
Architects, and topics of interest like Security, Network
and IT Management. Search the agenda by track to see
the Areas of Interest. Many of our sessions provide user
experiences which will provide unbiased insight into the
latest hardware and software offerings. If this is your first
SHARE or you haven’t been to SHARE recently, check out
the SHARE Orientation session Sunday evening or Monday
morning or view the online video at www.SHARE.org/
FirstTimeAnaheimOrientation.
“SHARE is not just about
sitting in lectures all day long.
Take the opportunity for some
informal discussions.”
We very much appreciate the efforts of our SHARE
volunteers, who have been working for months to put
together a robust set of sessions, as well as building assets
that SHARE can use to deliver a year-round program.
Without these dedicated volunteers, SHARE would not have
the robust, compelling program that we offer biannually. In
return for their efforts, these volunteers get unprecedented
access to key thought leaders and direct influence over the
topics covered by future SHARE meetings. If you’d like to
join the SHARE volunteer community, please contact SHARE
Headquarters at [email protected].
We are grateful for the support of our Strategic Partner, IBM;
and our Premier Sponsors: EMC Corporation, UNICOM Global
International, Oracle, Hitachi Data Systems, Innovation Data
Processing, Luminex and MainframeZone. Be sure to visit our
exhibitors and sponsors at the SHARE Technology Exchange
Expo and check out the Lunch & Learns (where lunch is hosted
by our sponsors) and our Vendor Sponsored Sessions.
Have a great week! With all of the materials presented by
experts and thought leaders and all of the opportunities for
informal discussions, I’m sure you’ll find many great ideas
and be able to take considerable, valuable information back
to your companies. Remember, SHARE is not an acronym,
it’s what we do!

Crossing the Generational Divide:
Leveraging the Power of Generations™
for Your Strategic Advantage
Jason Dorsey
The Center for Generational Kinetics, LLC
Monday, August 6, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Grand Ballroom Salon E/F
For the first time in world history, four different generations
are working side by side—and a fifth generation is on
the way! Each generation brings a different perspective,
strengths and priorities to the workplace. These differences
can be a frustrating challenge (you leave a voicemail and
they reply with a text) or a strategic opportunity, depending
entirely on how you respond. In Crossing the Generational
Divide, Jason Dorsey reveals each generation’s workplace
mindset. He then shares surprising statistics, stories and
frontline-tested strategies that quickly drive results across
generations. You will leave motivated with ready-to-use
actions that you can apply in your everyday role.
Jason Dorsey is The Gen Y Guy®. You may have seen him on
60 Minutes, 20/20, The Today Show, The View, or in Fortune
Magazine. His talent is teaching ready-to-use actions and
creative strategies that quickly increase cross-generational
performance. A bestselling author at age 18, Jason’s
newest book is Y-Size® Your Business. This acclaimed book
features more than 50 ways to increase Gen Y performance
from day one. The Chief Strategy Officer for The Center for
Generational Kinetics, Jason constantly studies the unique
dynamics created within a multigenerational workforce. He
shares his insights on his entertaining What the Gen?! blog.
A proud member of Gen Y, Jason won the Austin Under
40 Entrepreneur of the Year Award at age 25—one of the
youngest winners ever. And, yes, he text messages his mom
every day. Watch Jason’s video about Gen Y and Boomers

Cloud and Big Data Driving
IT Transformation
Brian Gallagher
President, Enterprise Storage Division
EMC Corporation
Tuesday, August 7, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Grand Ballroom Salon E/F
As the foundation of computational performance, availability
and security, the Mainframe continues to deliver scale and
performance required by Cloud Computing and Big Data.
As IT organizations continue to deal with information deluge
and budget dilemmas, new ways of managing the data
center have to be adopted. Virtualization across the data
center has transformed the way IT organizations deliver IT
services to be more dynamic and at the lowest cost. The
next level of Transformation challenges enterprises to go
beyond virtualization. The first requires IT organizations to
federate resources, dissolve distances between data centers
and accelerate hybrid cloud models. The second requires
enterprises to intelligently correlate and analyze Big Data to
gain deeper insights into their customers and their business.
It is more important than ever to intelligently use all data
and guarantee that it is available at all times. In this session,
Brian Gallagher, President, Enterprise Storage Division at
EMC will focus on how these macro trends transform IT,
how enterprises and IT professionals need to address new
challenges and how the Mainframe plays a critical role in
driving IT Transformation.
EMC is a global leader in enabling businesses and service
providers to transform their operations and deliver IT as a
service. EMC has been serving the mainframe market since
its foundation. Brian Gallagher joined EMC in 1985 and was
named President of the Enterprise Storage Division in 2010.
His organization is responsible for the architecture, design,
development, support and marketing of some of EMC’s
most innovative and fastest growing products and software,
including the Symmetrix VMAX family and the VPLEX virtual
storage technology. Prior to becoming President, Gallagher
led the development of the Virtual Matrix Architecture
(VMAX) and EMC Direct Matrix (DMX), the basis for the
market leading Symmetrix storage systems. He received
a BS in Electrical Engineering from Tufts University and an
MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Worcester
Polytechnic Institute. He has been awarded 13 U.S. patents
and has 10 patents pending.
