Dear ARK Family, June 2016 From the Principal’s Desk It is amazing to think that we only have eleven more days remaining in the school year. This is an incredibly busy and exciAng Ame of year. It is a Ame to celebrate all of our accomplishments and to reflect on our experiences. I look back on the year with fond memories and look forward to the future. Wishing you all a relaxing and enjoyable summer! To our 5th graders, you will be missed and know that you will always be a part of the Knight family. We wish you the best in middle school and all your future endeavors. I hope you will come back to visit next year. Know that our doors will always be open to you. Russell Knight Elementary PTA President’s Message Dear ARK Community, As our school year winds to a close, I want to offer congratulaAons to the class of 2016 for all of their achievements during the past six years. We are so proud of their growth and progress, and we wish them conAnued success in the future. I want to thank the parents of our 5th graders for volunteering and making this year so much fun for them. Special recogniAon goes to Jane Yosko, Laurie Deitch, Maryrose Ruggieri, Missy Lang, Betsy Bristow and Mary Lacroix for organizing the 5th grade acAviAes throughout the year. I want to congratulate the newly elected members of the 2016-­‐17 PTA ExecuAve Board, Corinne Driscoll and Clare Bauer. The Board for next year is as follows: President: Deborah Solomons Secretary: KaSe Gibson Treasurer: Corinne Driscoll CommunicaSons: Angela Smith Community Outreach: Amy Frankovich Membership: Clare Bauer Ways and Means: Linda Peterson If you are looking to make a difference at ARK, please consider volunteering for the last posiAon that is sAll available which is Teacher’s Luncheons. Contact me for more informaAon. Thank you to this year’s Luncheon Commidee who was chaired by Amy Frankovich, Beth Sobus, Paula Barone, Micheline Eakins and Stacy Spivack. The luncheon was beauAful and truly showed our appreciaAon for our wonderful teachers and staff. Alissa Rodriguez and Sharon Sedanni planned a fantasAc Mother’s Day plant sale! The children loved shopping on this special day. Sue Jones organized BeauAficaAon Day and once again, brightened up our school. Finally, the PTA’s annual gif to ARK will be focused on technology. We will be providing chrome books and a charging cart to the school. The number of chrome books is not yet determined but will be a great addiAon to our classrooms. We have a very busy month ahead of us, so please mark your calendars. Spirit week, Field Day, ISC SkaAng Party, 5th grade Moving Up ceremony, and class picnics are all on the schedule. Enjoy these last few weeks of school, and have a wonderful summer! Best wishes, Deborah Solomons PTA President 5th Grade Update The ISC skaAng party will be held on Wednesday, June 1st from 6-­‐8 PM. FREE for students! The 5th grade moving up ceremony is on Tuesday June 14th at 9:30 in the APR, parents are invited to adend. 5th Grade pool party, Tuesday June 14th 1:30-­‐4:30 (afer school) at Covered Bridge Swim Club. This is NOT a school sponsored event. TransportaAon must be provided by the parents. More details will be provided later. If you have any quesAons, please contact Betsy Bristow at [email protected] A Note from Sue Jones Thank you to all the volunteers who came to help beauAfy the school grounds this spring! Afer a few changes in date due to rain we finally got a sunny weekend. We were able to weed, edge and spread mulch in all the beds around the school. Some colorful annuals were added, and overgrown shrubbery was trimmed. We had a lot of help from Cherry Hill East and Rosa Middle School students and couldn’t possibly have accomplished what we did without them! Mr. Park, Mrs. Guy, Mrs. Paderson and family, and Mr. Buff demonstrated some amazing landscaping talent. Thank you to the Spivaks, Donahe, Jones, and West families who are our anchor gardening volunteers. If you missed out on the fun this Ame and want to help with upkeep please email me (Sue Jones) at [email protected] All you need possess is the desire to pull weeds and spray water. Mrs. Jane Yosko was instrumental in preparing the layout of artwork for display throughout our first floor school gallery space. With Mrs. Yosko's vision and the assistance of Mrs. Stacy Spivack, Mrs. Helene Santola, Mrs. Sue Jones, and Mrs. Amy Frankovich, our students, teachers, and visitors have been oohing and aahing as they view the image making of our 1st through 5th graders. These parent volunteers, along with Mrs. Amy Rivas and Mrs. Beth Sobus also prepared enAcing snacks for the Art Show recepAon. We are grateful and appreciaAve of their support in celebraAng our student efforts. A Note From Mrs. Sindoni Dear Knight Family, With long-­‐standing support for the library, our collecAon conAnues to grow adding new Atles through direct purchase, donaAons, and the Friends of the Library Program. Each year we add about 200 books to the collecAon as well as ebooks and databases. With parAal proceeds from the ScholasAc Book Fair organized and staffed by the PTA both last year and this year, the PTA purchased 2 databases: TrueFlix and FreedomFlix which feature online non-­‐ficAon books and acAviAes. Through your taxes, our library budget supports digital resources including: DesAny Library Resources, Grolier Online Encyclopedia, Worldbook Encyclopedia, TeachingBooks, Tumblebooks, Discovery Streaming, PebbleGo and Rosen Digital /Power Knowledge Science Suite – all with links on the library eboard. To make the library program the most for your children, many volunteers assist by offering their Ame and experAse. I would like to thank everyone who supports the library and the educaAon of our students. By arranging a visiAng author, organizing volunteers and sharing their experAse with our students, the community supports our students.
