Book Discussions – December 2009
The final It’s a Mystery Book Club session
for 2009 is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.,
December 2, in the library Community
Room. The December mystery is
Motherless Brooklyn by Jonathan Lethem, a New
York Times Notable Book and winner of the National
Book Critics Circle Award for fiction. A number of
paperback copies of the book are available at the
circulation desk for $8. If you enjoy mysteries, this
is an opportunity to share an evening with likeminded enthusiasts and make some new friends in
the process. Everyone is invited to join us for the
discussion. Discussion leader is Emily Weaver.
The December Book Discussion Group
will meet from 7:00-8:30 p.m., Tuesday,
December 15, in the library Community
Room. The selected title is Among Other
Things, I’ve Taken Up Smoking by
Aoibheann Sweeney. This is the final discussion for
the book club, as we are reading the last of the
2009 selections and ending the monthly discussion
format as it currently exists. The book club has
been meeting at the library for 12 years on a
monthly basis and reading a variety of genres. New
ideas are being developed for discussion events in
the future, but they will likely consist of more
stand-alone programming, rather than monthly
meetings. Come join us for this final BDG meeting,
and watch for details about upcoming library
programming.
To kick off the new year, we are planning a Julie
and Julia event for January 2010. More details
available after the holidays!
