All Shackle Sizes Are Forged—None Are Cast
Sea-Fit shackles start out as solid, domestically produced bar steel and are then upset and open die forged.
Though this process is more labor intensive, the process produces a higher quality fitting due to superior grain
structure.
Quench and Tempering
To ensure that Sea-Fit shackles are strong, yet ductile, shackles are quenched and tempered.
This means the shackle is designed to bend or deform before
failure and therefore, make it a
safer, higher quality fitting.
SHACKLE FEATURES
Shackle Ears Are Machined For Superior Fit
To provide a tight, secure fit between the shackle ears and pin, the shackle ears are line bored in a machining
center. This process also assures that the pin bore is perpendicular to the shackle bale.
Epoxy Coated—Not Hot Dipped Galvanized
Sea-Fit shackles are coated with Intershield 300V 100% pure aluminum epoxy. This is a product of International Paint and is proven in offshore, salt-air environments and is actually designed for immersion service
in salt water. The coating also possesses tough and durable properties.
Why Sea-Fit shackles are not
hot dip galvanized.
Hot dip galvanizing provides one of
the most durable and corrosion resistant coatings. However, steel products
made to specific and desired mechanical properties can be altered during the
hot dip galvanizing process. For this
reason, Sea-Fit has chosen to not hot
dip galvanize it’s shackles.
SHACKLE FEATURES
Shackles Are Fitted With An RFID Chip
To stay on the forefront of technology, Sea-Fit shackles are fitted with RFID chips on the threaded end of
the shackle pin. Now, material certificates can be instantly retrieved in the field via hand held scanner.
RFID POWERED BY
What is RFID and why Sea-Fit puts this chip in it’s shackles?
RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. This small flat chip emits a magnetic signal that can be read
by a hand held scanner. Each chip possesses an individual number and that number is unique and the only one
in the world according to ISO standards. That number is up-linked to the N4 Systems website that then connects that individual number to a file and in that file are the material and proof test certificates for that shackle.
The chips are very impact resistant and durable and countersunk into the end of the shackle pin to protect it
from direct impact. Though a hand held scanner is required to get this information using the chip, it is a technology that is growing rapidly in the rigging industry and will become the norm in the years to come.
Markings—Each Shackle Has Individual Serial Number
As required by ASME B30.9-26, each shackle’s bow
is impression stamped with “SEA-FIT”, the nominal
size and capacity. In addition to this, each shackle
bow and pin is marked with a matching, unique serial number so that pin and bow can be paired.
