A n announcement this week from
the Port Washington T e a c h e r s ' Association states t h a t the group will
again sponsor a " P u b l i c F o r u m S e r i e s " similar to the program w h i c h

T h e committee is now working on
such questions as the problems to
be discussed during the series, the
number of speakers, a n d general
handling of programs.
Discussion I s Desirable
I n a letter issued to the Association this week, Mr. S h e r e r said,
"After the signal success of last
year's 'Public F o r u m Series," it is
highly desireable t h a t the teachers
a g a m undertake the sponsorship of
a communal discussion of pertinent
current problems. . . I t is fortunate
that we have i n America, the opportunity of the F o r u m medium for
the discussion of paramount issues
and eventual intelligent action by
the informed citizenry."
I n conclusion, M r . S c h e r e r stated
that the committee would welcome
suggestions from members of the
Association a n d a l l other residents
of P o r t Washington who are i n t e r ested i n this project.
Tomorrow P o r t High's " F i g h t i n g
G e n t l e m e n " will again try to make
first score of the season after h a v ing
lost three consecutive games
and failing to score i n any of t h e m .
T h e y will oppose Stony Brook, a
prep school, w h i c h they first met
last year on Seeber F i e l d a n d h a n d ed a decisive 46-0 defeat. So far
Stony Brook has met Manhasset,
a n d they tied, 7 a l l . R i g h t now
their average is more impressive
t h a n is Port's. T h e y have won one,
lost one, a n d tied one, but they
have not played teams on the level
of the ones P o r t has played.
I n spite of the drubbing S o u t h ampton handed us, the team's power
plays and paeswork seem to be
m u c h better t h a n they were i n the
Hicksville encounter.

game. I f Bob Woelfl's shoulder i n j u r y is better, he might be i n active
play. H i s playing was greatly m i s s ed i n t h a t Saturday's game, but
Gregory showed up to be a strong
m a n backing up the line.
Herb Carpenter, who h a d to be
taken out
of
the
Southampton
game because of a bruised leg m u s cle, is back and i n playing order
again. " D o u g " Rodgers who retired
from the game after a n outstanding performance, will be back h a v ing recovered from the cut above
his eye.
Bernie Mallon h a d the splints t a k en off his h a n d this week but he's
not yet been i n active scrimmage.
He hopes to a g a i n be able to play
by the time of the G r e a t Neck
