Notes From The Mayor's Office
by Greg “Porp” Rogers
Mayor
We received some bad news
last week; we thought we were
ready to go to bid for our sidewalks when we were told we
have more paperwork to provide.
This will push the project into
next spring.
Trees seem to be a hot topic.
The National Grid trimming
program has left East Main St.
looking pretty bad. The logic
behind it is they cut whatever
trees that may become a hazard,
within the next seven years. Then
trim the trees back to adjust for
such a time line. We really have
no input on the job they do or to
what extent they cut. It seems we
have lost a lot of trees in recent
years. Traditionally we budget
$10,000 a year, and this number
may have to double in the future.
We currently try to replace trees
that were they were taken down.
If you have a spot that you think
may need a tree please call the
Village Offices, 768-2527, extension 2216, we will get to it when
we can, keep in mind it may take
a year or two.
In the upcoming months the
Village Board will be looking to
strengthen our code, in regards
to unkempt properties. It hardly
seems fair that the 97% of people
who take care of and have pride
in their homes, should have to put
up those 3% who don’t. We will
be looking for a fair and equitable
way to manage this problem, but
it has to be addressed.
Lastly, the children will be back
to school next week, please use
extra care getting around the Village and watch for kids and buses.
If I have used this quote before please excuse me, but it is
one close to my heart and would
deserves seconds anyway. “Formula for success, under promise
and over deliver” Thomas Peters

Notes
An overcast and muggy day as
President Randy rang the bell to
convene our regular lunch meeting. Our only guest today was
Master Biviano, son of Chris.
Announcements were started on
a sad note. Past President Don
Cooney died this week. He served
as Club President during the Rotary year 67-68.
The mood brightened with
news that our Club Picnic is
scheduled for September 14th
and the LeRoy Business Council
Golf Tourney still has openings
for their annual on September 9th
at LCC. Lauren Humphrey took
the opportunity to fill us in on
the success of “Lite the Night”.
A big thank you to everyone in
the community that pitched in!
Cindy Bishop, Chris Biviano,
Jim Ellison, Lynn Freeman, Carol
Wolfe and Mary Young all had
make-ups for their missed meetings. Sam Vagg, Eric Fix and Joe
Giannettino were all serenaded
Oatka Chiropractic
for their birthdays.
Larry Boylan was “recognized”
for 42 years in Rotary and Tom
McGinnis happily shared that
this year is his 50th year doing
business in LeRoy. Anil Sawhney
paid up for a recent office visit
by a locksmith. David Grayson
called on the services of Past
President Larry Boylan. When
this phenomenon of two Past
Presidents teaming up occurs,
it generally means the current
President is about to be fined.
Let’s just say that President Randy will not forget his meeting
notes again.
Our program centered on Rotary Membership and our efforts
to continue to market our Club
activities and Rotary in general.

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - AUGUST 31, 2014
Superintendent''s Column
by Kim Cox
Superintendent of Schools
The 2014-15 school year is
fast approaching. I hope that you
and your family enjoyed a great
summer.
As always summer is a busy time
at the District. Facilities, Food
Service, Transportation, Business,
Instruction, Technology, Buildings
and Grounds, and District Office
staff have been working diligently
to prepare to welcome our students
back to school.
The Le Roy School family
welcomes some new faces: Reilly
Condidorio, Jennifer Bertrand
and Josh Baker - WSS Elementary classroom teachers; Lindsay
Buckel - Jr./Sr. High School Music teacher; and Mike Humphrey
- WSS PE teacher.
Much of this summer has been
spent continuing the work of
building connections between our
mission and vision of a “world
class” learning organization. Our
commitments of preparing all
students to be college and career
ready, having a united school
culture, providing leadership
opportunities for all, and ensuring
a safe and fiscally responsible
environment, are the foundation
of this work. Areas under development this year will include:
improving instructional practices
and programs, establishing graduation outcomes for our students,
and providing all staff with high
quality professional development. In addition we will explore
a capital project that focuses on
asset preservation and renovation
of existing facilities to ensure a
21st Century learning environment. More information about
the project will be coming soon!
We are fortunate to have a supportive Board of Education that
is committed to the mission of
empowering all learners to succeed¬— “learners” applying to
all members of the organization.
Together, teachers, support staff,
administrators, and the Board
of Education work to ensure
each and every person’s success
through the promise of continuous improvement and lifelong
learning.
I’m looking forward to a great
2014-15 and can’t wait to have
all of our students back with us!
Enjoy the rest of your summer.
Kim Cox, Superintendent of

LeRoy Business Council was called to order at 5:35pm by President Bob Bennett.

is happy to be serving our community.
The restaurant offers 20 different kinds
of mac and cheese, Mooney’s signature
dish along with a variety of subs, wings,

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - AUGUST 31, 2014
“Two People Who Live Together and Like It”
by Lynne Belluscio
It was before my time, but
“Henry Aldrich” was one of the
most popular radio programs
in the 1930s, along with the
“Jack Benny Show” and “My
Favorite Husband,” starring
Lucille Ball. All three programs
were sponsored by Jell-O. It was
the Golden Age of Radio and
few of us remember a time when
families would gather in the front
parlor to listen to the radio.
But you will have a rare
opportunity to gather at 58 On
Main on Friday night, September
12 at 7 pm or Saturday, September
13 at 2:00 pm for a smattering of
radio programs. Jim Delooze
has gathered several programs
together for an entertaining radio
show. Tickets are available for
only $5 at the Jell-O Gallery or
at Barista’s at 58 Main. Proceeds
will benefit the Historical Society.
The Aldrich Family was
developed from a Broadway play,
and first was included in short
episodes on the Kate Smith Show.
Then it was a summer replacement
for the Jack Benny Show.
In 1939, it became a weekly
show on Tuesday nights.
The show opened with
Henry’s mother shouting
“H-e-n-r-y - Henry
Aldrich.” And Henry
would shout back in a high
pitched adolescent voice
“Co-m-i-n-g Mother!”
The Aldrich family
lived at 117 Elm Street
in Centerville. Henry’s
father was a lawyer and his
mother was a homemaker.
Henry was an awkward
teenager who bumbled his
way through each episode,
but endeared himself to the
audience each week. The
radio show developed into
comic books, television
and movies. The last radio
program was in 1953.
“My Favorite Husband”
aired in 1948 and ran
for three years, starring
Lucille Ball as Liz Cugat.
The name of her character
changed to Liz Cooper
after confusion with band
leader Xavier Cugat. The
Coopers lived at 321
Bundy Drive in the fictitious city
of Sheridan Falls and were billed
as “two people who live together
and like it.”
For several years, the show
was sponsored by Jell-O and
each episode included at least
three Jell-O commercials,
including Lucy’s greeting - “Jell-O Everybody!” In 1953,
it was suggested that the show
would go to television, but Lucy
refused to appear on a television
show without her husband
Desi Arnaz, so “My Favorite
Husband” appeared on television
without Lucy. Instead she and
Desi starred in “I Love Lucy.”
Probably the radio program
most closely associated with
Jell-O was the “Jack Benny
Show”, which featured the pennypinching, comedian who played
the violin terribly, and who was
always 39. He was joined on
the air with Mary Livingston,
“Rochester” his chauffeur,
Dennis Day, the band leader
Phil Harris, and the announcer,
Don Wilson, who was often the
brunt of Benny’s jokes. It was
Don Wilson’s voice that sang out
the familiar “J – E – L – L – O.”
“The Jack Benny Show”
was sponsored by Jell-O from
1934 until 1942. It was said
that the program created such a
demand for Jell-O that production
was unable to keep up. When
World War II broke out, the
sugar shortage created a terrible
problem for Jell-O and General
Foods changed the sponsorship
of the program to Grape Nuts,
another General Foods product.
So if you’re looking for a little
nostalgia, and a time when radio
was entertaining, join us at 58 On
Main for a glimpse of the Golden
Age of Radio.

LeRoy Junior Football
Team Loses Opener
The LeRoy Junior Knights
could not overcome a slow start,
eventually falling to the Geneseo
Junior Blue Devils 26-18. Geneseo opened up a 14-0 halftime
lead, sparked by a last second
touchdown pass as halftime
expired, and would withstand a
furious 4th quarter rally by the
Knights to nail down the win.
After falling behind 20-0 early in the 3rd quarter, LeRoy’s
offense scored on 3 consecutive
drives. Drew Strollo scored the
first touchdown on a 10 yard
scamper. Geneseo would answer
immediately with a long touchdown, however LeRoy responded
quickly with a 54 yard touchdown
burst by Landen Saeva. A forced
fumble by Bryson Gentile gave
the ball back to LeRoy on the next
drive and Riley Williams closed
the gap to 26-18 with an 18 yard
touchdown run. Geneseo responded with a long drive, chewing up
all but 2 seconds on the clock. LeRoy’s last ditch effort would fall
just short, as a Geneseo defender
made a shoestring tackle on Saeva
after he broke free from multiple
defenders and made a long run.
Drew Strollo led the Knights
offense with 118 yard rushing
(1 TD) and 20 receiving yards.
OBITUARY
Landen Saeva compiled 87 yards
on the ground (1 TD) and Riley
Williams ran for 46 yards (1 TD).
Quarterback Tommy Condidorio
added 18 yards on the ground and
threw for 20 yards. Tony Piazza
ran for 15 yards. Bryce Lathan,
Jackson Fix, and Ryan Shirley
also carried the ball for LeRoy.
A multitude of defenders
made plays for LeRoy’s defense.
Bryson Gentile was especially
disruptive with 5 tackles, including a sack, a tackle for loss, and
two forced fumbles. Drew Strollo
led the squad with 11 tackles (4
for loss) and recovered a fumble.
Will Eschberger had 7 tackles (3
for loss) as did Landen Saeva
who also recovered a fumble.
With five tackles each were Bryce
Lathan (2 for loss) and Riley Williams (1 sack). Also contributing
on defense with tackles were Nate
Yauchzee (4), Ryan Higgins (3),
Jackson Fix (3), Tony Piazza
(3), Xavian Walker (2), Antonio
Martinez (2), and Cole Friedhaber. Tristan Weiseltier, Connor
Hegeman, and Ben Robinson also
made tackles.
The LeRoy Juniors will play
Hornell in their home opener on
Sunday August 31st at 12 noon.
Donald L. Cooney, 83 years of
age, formerly a resident of LeRoy,
New York, died August 16, 2014
in Palm Desert, California. He was
born May 14, 1931 to James and
Marjorie Cooney of Retsof, New
York. He married Joy Pulver June
12, 1954 in Syracuse, New York.
He was an attorney at law for
36 years in LeRoy, New York,
having graduated from Syracuse
University in 1956 with a degree in law.
Don had been very much involved with the LeRoy community
serving as the Village attorney for LeRoy and Caledonia, as well
as for the LeRoy Central School Board. He was a vestryman for St.
Mark’s Episcopal Church and a trustee of the Woodward Memorial
Library. He was president and director of the NIOGA Library System. He also served on the Girl Scout Council in Rochester. He was
president of both the LeRoy Rotary Club and the Community Chest.
Don enjoyed painting with the All Weather Gang, sailing on the
St. Lawrence River, and skiing with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Joy, his daughters Martha Dressen
(David) of Belen, New Mexico) and Susan Cooney of Los
Angeles, California, his brother William of Gloversville, New
York, his sister in-law Ann Cooney of Sumter, South Carolina,
and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held at
St. Marks Episcopal Church in LeRoy, New York
on September 20 at 11:00 AM.
Don will be remembered by all who knew and
loved him as a kind, wise, and gentle man.

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - AUGUST 31, 2014
Le Roy Seniors Begin 2014 Season With A
Huge Road Win Over Geneseo
by Head Coach Jeff Strollo
The Le Roy Senior Knights
opened their 2014 season on the
road against the Geneseo Blue
Devils. The Blue Devils won the
toss and after receiving the kickoff, immediately tried attacking
the edges of a very fast Le Roy
Senior defense. This would prove
costly as Andrew Englerth forced
a fumble with the Knights recovering. Le Roy would take their
opening possession and march
right down the field scoring on
a 7 yard scamper by Andrew
Englerth. Alex Panepento would
plow into the end zone for the 2 pt.
conversion making it 8-0. A quick
three and out by Geneseo would
give the ball back to the Knights
and they would answer quickly
as Andrew Englerth would take
the first carry 55 yards for the
touchdown. QB Keaton Hobart
found Cody Lytle all alone in the
end zone after his first receiver
was covered for the 16-0 lead. The
Knights defense stepped up again
with crushing tackles by Andrew
Englerth, Alex Panepento and
Ethan Beswick and then a nice
pass breakup by Alonzo Storey
gave the ball right back to the
Knights. A 17 yard burst up the
middle by Alex Panepento and
two pass completions by Keaton
Hobart to Andrew Englerth and
Ethan Beswick moved the ball to
the 7 yard line. Andrew Englerth
would then score his third touchdown of the game from 7 yards
out to increase the Knights lead
to 22-0. The Knights defense
again stepped up with a QB sack
by Cody Lytle and stops by Zack
Vanderhoof and Brock Flint
giving the ball back to Le Roy.
Adam Risewick would continue
the scoring as he scored on a
great weaving, tackle breaking
run from 17 yards out. Zack
Vanderhoof would punch in the 2
pt. conversion to make the score
30-0. Geneseo’s next drive would
end as Brady Fix would intercept
the Blue Devils QB to close out
the first half. The second half
looked much like the first as the
Knights defense dominated this
game limiting Geneseo to only a
couple first downs in the whole
game. Keaton Hobart made way
at the QB position for both Ethan
Beswick and Jason Eck, who
were seeing their first snaps at the
position. Cole Rauscher would
close out the scoring plunging
in from the one after being setup
by a great Ethan Beswick run of
24 yards. The final score was Le
Roy 36-Geneseo-0. This was a
complete team effort as 14 Le
Roy players would be listed on
the offensive stat sheet and 11
defensive players would be listed. Keaton Hobart would finish
the game 3-3 passing with a 2
pt. conversion. Andrew Englerth
would lead all rushers as he finished with 79 yards and 3 TD’s on
just 5 carries to go along with a 7
yards reception. Adam Risewick
would chip in 52 yards and a TD
while Alex Panepento would add
39 yards and a 2pt. conversion.
Cody Lytle had a 2 pt. conversion
receiving and 24 yards rushing
while Ethan Beswick added 34
yards rushing and 12 receiving.
Cameron Greene, Nate Andrews,
Zack Vanderhoof, Brady Fix,
Alonzo Storey, Tyler Strollo, Cole
Rauscher (1 TD) and Brock Flint
would all add positive gains to the
298 rushing yards! This wouldn’t
have been possible without the
unbelievable blocking by lineman
Jimmy Burns, Zack Vanderhoof,
Cole Rauscher, Andrew Kettle,
Jackson Locke and Luke Rider).
Defensively, the Knights were
led by Andrew Englerth and Alex
Panepento who each had 6 tackles
to go along with a forced fumble
(Englerth) and pass breakup
(Panepento). Ethan Beswick had
an interception to go along with
his 4 tackles while Cody Lytle
chipped in a sack and 3 tackles.
Brock Flint made three tackles
for losses while also getting on
the tackle stat sheet were Tyler
Strollo-1, Corey Wallace-1, Zack
Vanderhoof-1, Alonso Storey-1,
Cole Rauscher-1 and Brady Fix1 interception. The Knights are
home for their next game on
Sunday, August 31 as they take on
the Hornell Red Raiders at 2pm.

Stack was arrested a second time on 8/21/2014 by the LeRoy Police Department for this new allegation and charged with one count
of Rape in the First Degree (by forcible compulsion). Stack was
