Sharjah Commerce and Tourism
Development Authority is
organizing the sixth annual Sharjah
Light Festival this year with a
variety of 23 innovative shows
across the emirate under the theme
‘Travel across Time’. The festival
will be held for 10 days, from
February 4 to 13, during which
major buildings, mosques and
other landmarks in the emirate will
be adorned with dazzling display of
lights creating three-dimensional
designs using the latest technology
under the supervision of
international experts. The festival
will also feature innovative
performances at various locations.
As the first event of its kind in the
region, Sharjah Light Festival has
been attracting a large number of
families and visitors from inside
and outside the UAE.
What year did it start?
Sharjah Light Festival was
organized in February 2011 for a
period of nine days. It managed
to attract considerable attention
as the first event of its kind in the
region. The launch of Sharjah
Light Festival added another
major event to Sharjah’s tourism
calendar, highlighting the status
of the emirate as a family tourism
destination.
What’s new about
this year, what will be
different?
Several new locations have been
included in this year’s Sharjah Light
Festival to enable the maximum
number of visitors and public to
enjoy the shows of the festival.
This year the festival is being held
across 23 locations in the emirate
compared to 14 locations last year.
The number of festival nights has
also increased from nine last year to
10 this year.

will be held as part of the festival
this year, which will be based on the
theme, ‘Travel across Time’.
Do you think this
year will be as
productive as the
years before it?
Sharjah Light Festival has
been gaining popularity over
the years, attracting more
visitors to the emirate each year.
Sharjah Commerce and Tourism
Development Authority has been
constantly working to ensure the
novelty of the festival by including
several innovative activities and
shows during the festival every
year. As a result, the festival is
expected to achieve 30% increase
in the number of visitors this year
compared to the previous year.
SCTDA is utilizing the latest
technology with minimal power
consumption for the Sharjah
Light Festival. In its first year, the
event succeeded in saving 30% of
potential energy consumption,
while during the second year the
savings rate reached 45% and in
subsequent years it rose to 60%.
With the use of state of the art
technology and latest innovative
methods, the energy savings rate
is expected to increase further this
year.
he most successful work for the Music composer and writer Ziad
Rahbani “Bel Nesbe La Bokra shou” that was presented in 1978
on the theater stage in the Lebanese capital Beirut is coming back
again on the screen for the first time. The successful audio theater
turns now to a movie theater, after gaining huge success in Lebanon in
regards to the rating and sales. The movie will be on the big screen in Dubai
in the Mall Of Emirates on February 10th. As a clip was filmed on stage
by Layal Rahbani sister of Ziad Rahbani 38 years ago, in order to help the
director and actors during exercise, and did not schedule a presentation at
all, this explains the sudden change in fashion scenes.
The story gives an objective vision of the economic conflict in Lebanon at
that time, and the controversy between the principles and dignity, through
Zakaria (Ziad Rahbani) and his wife Thuraya (Nabila Zeitouni). It takes
place in a bar in Hamra Street frequented by a group of characters, and in
this pub works Zakaria and Thuraya, who moved with the family from the
village to the capital to improve their standard of living, but the high cost
of living forced Thuraya with the consent of her husband to go out with the
customers to get additional income; here begins the great conflict with one’s
self which leads to a disastrous result.

Couple’s Workout Moves 6 Healthy
Valentine’s
Date Ideas
“The Couple that Sweats Together Stays Together”
2. High-Five Up Down
1. Kneeling Partner Twist
Kneel on the floor back-to-back, and slowly twist to one
side to hand a medicinal ball off to your partner (who
should be turning toward you). Then twist to the other
side as they turn to hand the ball back to you. Continue
passing the ball in that direction for 60-90 seconds, and
then repeat the exercise in reverse.
Start with both of you in plank position,
facing each other, with about a foot of space
between you. Lower yourself onto your left
forearm and then your right forearm. Next,
push yourself back up so you’re on your
left hand and then your right; your partner
should do the same moves, but with the
opposite hand/arm. At the end of the rep—
when you’re back up on both hands—give
your partner a high-five, your right hand to
their left. Repeat the exercise, starting from
the opposite side. Complete 8-10 reps.
Classic date ideas, other than being
redundant, usually includes being
indulgent, for example a movie with
a large bucket of popcorn and soda.
Those dates are usually memorable,
yes, however if you’re leaning towards
skipping the calories this Valentine’s,
here are 6 great ideas that will leave you
feeling healthier and not heavier:
1. Go to the Market
Rather than spending your evening on
an expensive dinner, take your date to
an organic market and pick up some
healthy products to cook together.
Walking around the market is already
an exercise itself, and eating organic
food is great for your body! If you don’t
know what to make, take look at the
lemon garlic tilapia recipe we especially
picked out for you.
2. Go Dancing
While staying inside and watching
“Dirty Dancing” is an option, you could
take a dance class. It’s a romantic way
to spend your time together, and a
great way to exercise. If taking a class
isn’t your style, you could just spend the
night dancing at the club.
3. Rock Climbing
3. Dynamic Lunge
Stand facing your partner, about an arm’s length apart, and hold each other’s hands. Lunge
forward with your right leg as your partner lunges backward with their left leg. Reverse the motion,
lunging backward with your right leg as your partner lunges forward with their left. Complete 1012 reps, then switch sides.
READ. FEBRUARY 07 - FEBRUARY 13, 2016
4. Partner
Shuffle Drill
Grab any kind of
ball and stand
face-to-face with
your partner with
a few feet of space
between you.
Slightly bend your
knees, and engage
your core. When
someone says
“go,” you should
both shuffle about
20 feet in one
direction, passing
the ball back and
forth as you move.
Repeat in the
opposite direction.
Continue for 30
seconds.
It might sound too strenuous, but
these days, it’s not that extreme.
Rock-climbing is safe, fun and
accommodates all skill levels. You could
also spot your partner as they scale a
wall and create a great way to gain their
trust.
4. Get Outside
Spending your day in nature can make
for a great date. Make sure to pack
water and snacks to keep your energy
up. It doesn’t have to be hiking, you can
just take a leisurely stroll in a park while
holding hands, which is very romantic.
5. Leave Town
A couple’s retreat could be the perfect
weekend of health and luxury. Find
a retreat that emphasizes a healthy
lifestyle while providing a weekend of
relaxation. With organic meals, couple’s
massage and saunas, what more could
you want?
6. Horseback Riding
The idea of a horseback ride at
sunset may seem really cheesy,
but a date on horseback is actually
great exercise, while also being fun
and adventurous. Horseback riding
improves your posture and increases
your cardiovascular health.

Going Solo on
Valentine’s Day
Singles’ Awareness day is coming
up. Yes, the stores are already

My best friend has been my
valentine’s date for most of my life,
and we always have a good time,

love yourself! You deserve a little

mani-pedi, it’s up to you! Instead of
thinking about how lonely you are,
enjoy your alone time.

than a party! Invite all your single
friends for an anti-Valentine’s party,
buy a heart piñata and smash it,

7-9 Same answers: You guys belong together, you’re so alike and you probably share similar interests and do
lots of great things together, because you both find them interesting! Match made in heaven!
4-6 Same answers: Moderately compatible. Alright, so you both like different things, but that doesn’t mean it
can’t work. You guys probably have great debates, and could end up changing each other for the better.
0-3 Same answers: Find someone else. You two are nothing alike. Your opinions on what to do seem to clash.
If that works for you, perfect! However, you might want to re-evaluate your options.
It’s Valentine’s Day, and you want to make food instead of buying it.
You want to treat your loved one to the best food he or she has ever
tasted, while still making it at home because you know that makes it
more special. However, you don’t really know what to make. Should
you just cook some regular meal? Should you make extravagant
food? Or should you make cutesy food? Don’t worry. Here at READ,
we’ve got you covered!

Marinated Steaks
FOOD

Heart Pancakes for Breakfast:
Pancakes are pretty simple to make once you’ve found the right batter to
use. To make them heart shaped, is very simple. Put some of the batter in a
pastry bag, and then create the outline of the heart on the pan, then simply
fill in the outline with batter (you can pour this in as well if you want).
Cut up some fruits or add some whipped cream and you’ve started off the
morning so sweetly.
Pro tip: If your loved one is still in bed, consider making it a breakfast in bed
deal, just to make it even sweeter.
Simple Picnic for Lunch:
Pro tip: Plan to take your significant other biking (or another exercise) just to
work up his/her appetite for the dinner you might have later on.
Extravagant Dinner:
By now, you’re having a pretty
good day with a cute breakfast
and a fun day at the park.
Now it’s time to pull out all the
stops and go for lavishness and
extravagance. What says that
better than steak? Follow our
steak recipe and your romantic
duties are done for the whole year.
Pro tip: Make it a candle-lit dinner
with fancy china to make it extra
special.

If you’re planning a big dinner, plan
a simple picnic at the park for just
the two of you. Bring along a picnic
basket filled with sandwiches of
your choice. This could be anything
from a loving peanut butter and
jelly sandwich to something fancy
like a Reuben. The food at this point doesn’t have to be special because the
location is special. Remember to get a blanket to lie on and just enjoy the
weather and sun.

3 Colour
Alternatives
for the
Cliché Red
The day of romance is yet
upon us, and everyone wants
to celebrate. Even if you’re
a couple in love, or a single
who wants to have good time
instead with your friends, we’re
here to make sure you do that
in style. Don the cliché red and
turn to these oh-so-wonderful
alternatives instead. After all,
we need to make sure we stand
out among the rest on this
special day right?
So it’s Valentine’s Day, and you’re all set: your make-up is done, your hair is perfection and
you’ve planned your outfit since last month. There goes the doorbell and surprise surprise! Your
man totally clashes with your outfit. Gents it’s not your fault don’t worry, but there are a few
things couples need to sort out before going for a big date. You won’t need to lay out a step by
step plan; all you need are these simple reminders.
The dominant colour
Coordinate colours without over-matching. Subtle colour
coordination is the easiest way to look cohesive. If she’s
wearing a dominate colour, make sure that colour is in
your details. It would look odd if you both stepped out in
a large amount of blue, but it would be cool if your outfit
consisted of blue and one of her accessories is of the same
colour. If you’re feeling bold enough, you can try a full on
colour blocking outfits, if your girl decides to wear a coral
hue dress, then you can go for an emerald green outfit to
compliment each other.
Trust the
corals
Whether it’s
a single coral
colour of pink
or a mix with
blue, you won’t
go wrong. This
outfit by Sarah
Hyland screams
perfection! From
its mix of coral
hues right down
to its silhouette
shape and perfect patterns. For
another alternative, go for a pop
of coral hue on your accessories
or shoes instead, while still
rocking your favourite LBD.

NO ‘matchy-matchy’
Believe us when we say that you should
definitely say no to those ‘couple shirts’.
Instead, stick to a similar shirt or pattern if you
really want to match. Avoid looking like twins/
siblings, and in tribute to the classic line of
Regina George, “Stop trying to make ‘matchymatchy’ happen. It’s never going to happen.”
Unless of course you’re Korean, then maybe you
can make it happen.
KOREAN COUPLE SHIRTS
Be YOU-nique
Just because you want to look
like a ‘stylish power couple’,
does not mean you should
force your partner into doing
so. If they are not comfortable
with what you are suggesting,
respect it, and make-do
with a style you can both
compromise in. You wouldn’t
want your romantic night to
be a foul night just because of
a fashion disagreement now
would you?

Making the Grade
My high-school English teacher was well known for being a fair, but hard,
grader. One day I received a B minus on a theme paper. In hopes of bettering
my grade and in the spirit of the valentine season, I sent her an extravagant
heart-shaped box of chocolates with the pre-printed inscription: “BE MINE.”
The following day, I received in return a valentine from the teacher. It read:
“Thank you, but it’s still BE MINE-US.”

(I am shopping with my fiancé, and step out of the store to take a phone call.
When I re-enter the store, I can’t find my fiancé.)

Employee: “We don’t sell those, but good luck!”

All Your Dirty Dishes On Display
(My husband and I just had dinner with his parents and we’re debating
on whether to stay and watch a movie with them or go on home. Neither
his parents or we have a machine dishwasher.)
Me: “Well, we do have dishes that need to be washed…”
Husband: “You have been letting them pile up.”
Me: “I just wish we had a dishwasher!”
Irresistible Irony
About a year had passed since my amicable divorce, and I decided it was
time to start dating again. Unsure how to begin, I thought I’d scan the
personals column of my local newspaper. I came across three men who
seemed like they’d be promising candidates. A couple of days later, I was
checking my answering machine and discovered a message from my
ex-husband. “I was over visiting the kids yesterday,” he said. “While I was
there I happened to notice you had circled some ads in the paper. Don’t
bother calling the guy in the second column. I can tell you right now it
won’t work out. That guy is me.”

All Dolled Up
A husband and wife had been married for 60 years and had no secrets
except for one: The woman kept in her closet a shoe box that she forbade
her husband from ever opening. But when she was on her deathbed—and
with her blessing—he opened the box and found a crocheted doll and
$95,000 in cash. “My mother told me that the secret to a happy marriage
was to never argue,” she explained. “Instead, I should keep quiet and
crochet a doll.” Her husband was touched. Only one doll was in the box—
that meant she’d been angry with him only once in 60 years. “But what
about all this money?” he asked. “Oh,” she said, “that’s the money I made
from selling the dolls.”

The Cheap Husband and The Perfume Store
A cheap husband was strolling with his wife in the shopping area of town.
They passed by a perfume store with delicious scents. Enjoying the aroma,
the man’s wife breathed deeply and hinted to her penny-pinching husband
with a hopeful smile: “Honey, aren’t those scents wonderful? Valentine’s Day is
just around the corner. “You’re right dear. Let’s walk past one more time to get
another smell just in time for Valentine’s.

A European
Journey
By Mae Cabigas
I
f you’re planning on visiting Europe, the winter season may just be the
most magical time of the year for you to do just that. Imagine the cold
winter winds blowing on your necks, the streets and houses decked
out in holiday décor, what would be more magical than that? If you’re
lucky enough, you may also be able to experience the first snowfall. There’s a
lot of things to do and places to see in Europe, you would think that one trip
may not be enough, but I assure you that it is, in this article I will share with
you how we were able to visit Europe in one month.
My mom and I first entered Milan, and spent two nights there. There
isn’t much to see besides the Duomo di Milano, and the many museums
alongside it. The Duomo itself is a magnificent structure but if you’re there
to shop, then look no further as the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is the place
for you, get lost in it and come back out and visit their Street Mercato, which
are open during the holiday season. Immerse yourself with rows and rows of
stalls, selling cheese of all kinds, salamis, pastries and even some fine Italian
leather!

PASTRIES AT THE STREET MERCATO
GALLERIA VITTORIO EMANUELE II
SWEETS AT THE STREET MERCATO
After three days of roaming and getting lost in the
streets of Milan, we made our way to Venice, another
dream destination, knocked off the bucket list. It was
raining quite a bit when we visited that day, but it
just added to the allure of this city by the sea. There
are trains from Milano Centrale that can take you
all the way to Stazione di Venezia Santa Lucia, from
here take a ferry going to S. Marco station, which is
a good place to start exploring. Piazza San Marco is
brimming with stores showcasing the best Venice can
offer, but make your way into the heart of the streets.
Don’t be afraid to get lost as you can easily take a
gondola ride to take you back if you want. Venice is
best known for their Murano glass, which originates
from one of their island of the same name. It comes
in beautiful different colours, and you can buy
yourself a pendant, watch, vase or even chandeliers.
Make sure to eat at the small cafes scattered along
the streets to truly enjoy the Italian way.
After spending a day in Venice, you can make your way to
Roma, you shouldn’t worry about travelling during the night
or the early hours of the morning as there are always trains
available. We walked towards the Colosseum, which was a 15
minute walk from our AirBnb. Rome is probably one of my
favourite places to visit, because of its historical monuments,
and also the fact that I love reading about the Roman days.
The Colosseum itself was gigantic, and I couldn’t believe that
I was seeing it with my own eyes, the ruins were spectacular,
and I could only imagine what Rome looked like before.
Rome is considered a walking city; therefore you should
remember to wear your most comfortable shoes. There are a
lot of places to discover around the Colosseum, including the
ruins of the Temple of Venus and Rome and so much more!
We would recommend for you to visit the Trevi Fountain at
night, so as to avoid the flock of tourists; personally I think
the Trevi Fountain is absolutely gorgeous at night. Make sure
to stop by St. Peter’s Basilica, if you’re not up to roaming the
basilica or the vast museum that they have, it also makes for
a good souvenir shopping.
CANALS OF VENICE
RIDING A GONDOLA
MURANO WATCH
GLIMPSE OF THE ANNE FRANK HOUSE
FRESH TULIPS
AN E.T. ADVENTURE AT MADAME TUSSAUDS
AMSTERDAM TULIP MUSEUM
We made sure to pass by Amsterdam, on my special request, as I wanted to take
the opportunity to visit Anne Frank’s house. I’ve heard a lot about it and seeing
it was just uncanny, to imagine them living in that building in secret during
the Holocaust. I bought my own copy of Anne Frank’s diary in the souvenir
shop and enjoyed reading through her life. A cheerful place to visit as well is
Amsterdam’s Tulip Musuem which is right across, you can even buy your own
bud! Don’t forget to pay a visit at Madame Tussauds and the many art museums,
including their Diamond Museum, the Van Gogh Museum and their museum
for modern art, the Stedelijk Museum, which serves as very interesting places.
Europe indeed is a wonderful continent filled with interesting places and
people; we can’t wait until our next visit!
COLOSSEUM
After a filling visit in Italy, we took an
overnight bullet train going to Paris,
where we met up with my cousin who
was living in Germany, we ventured
on to the Eiffel Tower on the first day
itself. The structure was amazing
and definitely took my breath away,
the foggy weather covering the tip of
the tower just added to its allure. We
grabbed some delicious crepes along
the street shops at Avenue de New
York, and made our way over to take a
snapshot of the Arc de Triomphe. We
spent the rest of the day discovering
the side streets of beautiful Paris and
falling in love with its picturesque
structures. The next day I dragged my
mom and cousin to the Catacombs
of Paris, their underground ossuaries,
which holds the remains of about
six million people in a small part of
the ancient Mines of the Paris tunnel network. This was definitely the
highlight of the trip for me; it was eerie, but at the same time fascinating.
You can take a trip as well to Paris Disneyland, if you’re not planning to
ride the attractions, it’s still a good place to buy some Disney souvenirs,
and of course the little kid in me was overjoyed.

Valentine’s
Day From
A Man’s
Perspective
READ. FEBRUARY 07 - FEBRUARY 13, 2016
V
alentine’s Day, is
commonly known across
the world to be the
day to celebrate love.
Where women, most often than
not, expect to be showered with
extravagant gestures, a special date,
chocolates, flowers and letters, but
don’t we already receive that during
our birthdays, monthsaries and
anniversaries? Why is that every
time a celebration comes along,
that pertains to romance or love, the
girls gets asked with ‘Do you know
what he’s planning?’ or ‘What did
he get you?’ While the men on the
other hand gets asked questions like
‘What surprise/plans do you have
in mind?’ or ‘What are you planning
to give her?’ Since both of you are
in a relationship, shouldn’t it be a
two way thing? Should Valentine’s
be really celebrated? Or is it what
the West likes to call a ‘Hallmark
Holiday’? We already know what
most ladies want for Valentine’s,
we don’t need to ask that, what we
really want to know this year is what
men think of V-day, and what better
way to find out that to ask them
ourselves.
We started off by asking our male
colleagues, who was all too willing
to give their opinion on the matter,
George our Lead Designer thinks
that it’s just “an excuse to spend
money”, Hossam our Art Director
thinks that the “people don’t seem
to celebrate it the way they used
to…it seems too superficial or
too traditional for most, but if I
was in love I would celebrate it
in the traditional way,” while on
the other hand our editor Wissam
says that, “There’s nothing wrong
in celebrating it, I just don’t like
the way it’s commercialized.” With
mixed reactions such us these,
and only in the vicinity of our
workplace, we ventured on outside
to ask various friends, both here and
abroad.
31 year old Imad Khalife, who
describes his current relationship
as ‘It’s Complicated’ (we feel you
Imad), admits to feeling indifferent
about it, bluntly stating that all
the “capitalist red annoys me.”
Broken-hearted Nabil Malarem (21),
agrees that, “It’s sweet to celebrate”,
but agrees with Omar Salama
(21), who is single, that V-day is
over-commercialized, Nabil further
shares that, “Romance or love
shouldn’t be celebrated on one day,
just because you have to.”
To be fair, we also asked two men
who are both in a long distance
relationship with their long-time
partners, on what their thoughts
are (because, you know, they’re in
love). Sander Lacson (23), who is
currently living in Toronto, Canada,
have been together with his girlfriend
for 8 years who is currently living
here. According to him, “Valentine’s
Day is overrated. It makes some
singles feel lonely and couples obliged
to carry out something grand or
luxurious, when in fact, love should
be shown everyday, unconditionally,
whether there’s an occasion or not.”
Furthermore, he shares that, “V-Day
sugarcoats the idea that there should
be one ‘special day’ to bring flowers
and chocolates to a significant other
when love can simply be manifested
through cooking a meal for someone
or giving tender hugs, which is the
same thing when dealing with family
members and friends,” he ended his
response with an advice: “Life is short,
spread the love, everyday, and not
solely on heart’s day.”
Stefano Sumayo is a 20 year
old who is currently living in the
Philippines, and has been together
with his girlfriend for 3 years who is
currently living here. To him, V-Day
can be celebrated, but it can also
be celebrated everyday, he shares
that, “We can let our loved ones feel
V-Day everyday, the only main reason
we celebrate V-Day is because it’s a
tradition; but if you’re in a relationship
making them feel loved comes from
the heart, and I think that’s the most
important thing.”
It’s amazing how different men’s
thought is on Valentine’s Day, whether
their single, heart-broken or in a
relationship, but I’m pretty sure some
men will strongly relate to 21 year old
Joseph Abillama’s answer: “The only
day of the year where you wish you
had a girlfriend.” Yes, he is single, and
yes even the ladies can relate to this.
Although admittedly some ladies may
or may not agree with the statements
of these men, I think we can all agree
on the answer that 20 year old Joseph
Rizkallah shared: “I think it’s nice to
dedicate a day to celebrate love and
not just romantic love, but love in
general because our world today is in
need of love.”
Let’s celebrate Valentine’s Day
differently this year, let’s all make
an effort to celebrate it by showing
appreciation to our loved ones, may
it be our partners, friends, or family.
Love is a given gesture, we show love
the best way we can, but rare is it that
we show how much we appreciate
them for loving us, and caring for us.
With that, we bid you a very happy
Valentine’s Day!
With Love,

J.K. Rowling has revealed new information about several other schools in
her Wizarding World universe, beyond the famed Hogwarts. It turns out
there are only eleven “long-established and prestigious wizarding schools
worldwide,” all of which hare properly regulated by the Interntational
Confederation of Wizards. Given the sparsity of wizarding schools,
“smaller and less well-regulated institutions” are bound to pop-up,
though Rowling notes that she “cannot vouch for the standard of education they might offer.” Rowling has
already discussed six of those eleven on Pottermore. She has revealed some of them to be in Japan, Africa,
Brazil and off the east coast of the U.S., with specific rules, classes and locations. Rowling also gave more
information concerning the Wizarding schools included in Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire. The new
expansion of the Harry Potter/Wizarding World universe, the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
(written by Rowling), will hit theatres on November 18. With the film’s release approaching, it’s likely more
information about the American wizarding academy will be revealed soon.

Ways that
Failure Can Help
your Career
F
ailing on the job doesn’t
mean that your career is
over. It only means that you
need to tweak your working
style and certain skills so you can
achieve better results. Failure is
often portrayed as the enemy of
success when in fact; it’s simply the
process of eliminating ways that
won’t work in order to come closer
to the ways that will. A setback
might actually be good for you; it
will force you to question what you
really want and will allow you to
better understand what motivates
you and makes you happy.
Akhtaboot is here to show you how
failure at work can actually give your
career a boost.
It Allows You to Face
your Fears
Fear of failure may be the biggest
obstacle to getting out of your
comfort zone. We often build failure
up in our heads to be something
tragic that we cannot recover from,
when in fact this is not the truth.
The world isn’t a coherent reality,
it’s always changing. If you learn
how to pull yourself out of any failed
experience, you’ll be able to grow
thicker skin. It is never easy to fail,
but you need to be willing to take
risks and not worry so much about
what could happen. Understanding
yourself does not only revolve
around you and what you are good
at, it also means that you need to be
aware of your weaknesses. Always
remember that failure isn’t negative
or positive; it’s the fear that makes it
appear as such.
the story and forget that the most
inspiring and motivational learning
experiences lie in the struggle.
Failure provides the spark that
drives us to come up with creative
solutions and winning ideas.
It Helps You Build Real
Connections
Failure humbles us and allows us to
better connect to people who have
been where we are. In a world where
many people are focused with
what’s in it for them, failure can help
you identify who really cares about
you and can help you empathies
with others. The network of friends,
coworkers and family members that
you build up around you is one of
the most fundamental assets in life
and a vital support system in dark
times.
It Provides Valuable
Learning Experiences
While not doing any mistakes at
work might sound like a good thing,
it can actually mean that you are
shying away from taking on any
new experiences. Even if you fail,
consider it a learning experience
and move on to the next best thing.
Failure gives you an opportunity to
learn from your wrong actions and
do what’s right the next time round.
Once you’ve experienced the worse,
only then you can truly appreciate
the best. Failure can bring out the
best in you; it will show you what
you are made of!
It Helps You Reach
Your Potential
They say that “If you’ve never failed,
you’ve never lived”. Everyone has
failed at some point. We often hear
or read stories about people who
succeeded in their careers ignoring
the years of struggle and failure. We
tend to focus on the bright side of

Magnussen replaces
Maldonado at Renault
F
ormer McLaren driver Kevin Magnussen will be replacing Pastor Maldonado at Renault
for this year’s Formula 1 season. Dane Magnussen will partner Jolyon Palmer after the
sponsors of Venezuelan Maldonado didn’t make any contracted payments to the team.
Magnussen managed to come at 11th place in the drivers’ championship with McLaren in
2014 before Fernando Alonso returned last season. The 23-year-old operated as test and reserve
driver for 2015 before being released. Maldonado admitted that he felt “proud” of his record
in F1 after staying with Williams for three years and two with Lotus, the forerunner of Renault.
Magnussen stated that his F1 career would have ended if he wasn’t picked by Renault.
H
ead coach Eddie Jones has claimed that
New England captain Dylan Hartley
must play like Tarzan in the Six Nations.
The 29-year-old was a controversial
appointment because of a chequered disciplinary
record. Jones believes that Hartley is a natural
communicator who is good at getting the best out
of people, which is why he turned to him. But he
added: “On the field he’s got to be Tarzan. He’s got
to get out there and play with his heart and if he
does that the players will follow him.” Jones’ said
that it was Hartley’s “blokeiness” that grabbed
his attention at first. “The first time I met him
we came to the kitchen and he was speaking to
people behind the counter, he was very polite and
respectful,” he explained.

ichael Clarke said that
he will come out of
retirement this month.
The former Australia
captain, who retired after last
summer’s Ashes, is set to play for
Missing out
J
im Furyk will not take part
in the Masters after suffering
an injury on his wrist which
requires him to undergo
surgery. The 45-year-old
American hasn’t played any golf
since mid-September, when he
withdrew from the first round of the
BMW Championship after having
trouble with his left wrist. The injury
still hasn’t healed completely and
it has been decided he requires an
operation, which means that he
will be sidelined for another three
months. He is expected to get back
in action as of May, meaning he will
be forced to miss the Masters at
Augusta National on April 7-10 along
with a number of other valuable
tournaments.
Sydney grade team Western Suburbs
on February 20-21. “I’ve realised
the game of cricket is in my blood,”
says the 34-year-old. “I’ll start with
this grade game and see if I miss it
as much as I feel like I’m going to.
If I do, the option is there to train
the entire winter and then we’ll see
what happens.” Western Suburbs
is a club which Clarke played for
as a youngster; and they will face
Randwick Petersham in a two-day
first grade match on February 20.
Clarke played 115 Tests and 245
one-day internationals for Australia,
but suffered several back injuries
throughout his career.
Point
of no
return
R
adamel Falcao did
not get the chance to
get back with Atletico
Madrid on transfer
deadline day. The Chelsea
striker, who is on a season-long
from Monaco, was reportedly in
Madrid last week hoping to land
a return to La Liga. However,
those hopes were dashed when
a move to China fell through for
Atletico’s Jackson Martinez. The
Colombian international only
made one Premier League start
for Chelsea and managed to score
just one goal in 15 appearances,
when he came in as a substitute.
The 29-year-old joined Chelsea
last July after a disappointing
season with Manchester United.
He hasn’t played for Chelsea
since the 31st of October, and was
sidelined with a thigh injury at the
start of November and suffered
a recurrence of the problem in a
training game in December.
McGuigan: Haye would KO Joshua
F
ormer world champion Barry McGuigan believes that David Haye would knock Anthony Joshua “unconscious” if the heavyweight rivals are to fight
each other. Haye is looking forward to regain a world heavyweight title and ended a three-and-a-half year absence from the ring in January when
he blew away Mark de Mori inside a round. The Londoner is now being trained by McGuigan’s son, Shane, whom he impresses quite well, making
the Northern Irishman see only one winner if Haye met Joshua in the near future. “David is in tremendous shape. He’s worked very hard. He’s very
serious about coming back. He’s trained ridiculously hard. It’s different training as a heavyweight.” said McGuigan.
